It was an ill advised attempt to begin with. . Oh no you didn't! Ben Johnson? His medal was stripped from him due to doping. Bloody Americans!
  2. Didn't get much of the slang. ie Bishaan dhirtey saraan tahay!

  4. ^ Don't worry guys - it wasn't as if you're going to leave Canada or Sweden or some other western country and live in Somalistan right?
  5. Emailed him too. Amazing that CBSA officers would reveal what's in a confidential immigration file. Clearly everyone hates us.

  7. ^Perhaps the author should have cited a few examples then. Agree about Matt.
  8. ^Not everyone can make that argument. Adeero badan oo eber ah baa jira.
  9. Not much of an analysis. What facts were distorted? And what judgements were rushed to? I didn't see much of that in the article except a defense of the PM. If he wanted to defend the PM - then maybe the title ought to have reflected that.
  10. Shariif has misappropriated money. Shariif is not a charismatic leader or who one displays a can do attitude. That said he's not a divisive figure and he seems to want to get along with most factions in the chaotic country. It would be better to replace him.
  11. Good for her. Though this pic is a little scary!
  12. ^So you see something that is not factually in the report? That is not 'seeing' - that's insinuation and malow but to each his own.
  13. Let him savour it - as close as he will get to the real thing.

  15. Make or break? I don't think there is much signficance to capturing Kismayo whoever does it. But increasingly I feel AMISOM is more trouble than it's worth. Sadly - al kabaab keeps the whole thing going on.
  16. I'm a Barbie girl in the Barbie world Life in plastic, it's fantastic You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere Imagination, life is your creation
  17. Funny. All these musharaxiin... There should be a rule that any musharax hopeful must do a minimum of 200 hours community service inside Somalia supervised and signed off on by an independent agency.
  18. Nothing will change as long as reality is denied like this: Eaton Centre shooting victim mourned as ‘good person’ Mr. Hassan belonged to the same gang as the man who is now charged in the shooting. Some friends and relatives who gathered for Mr. Hassan’s funeral said they are angry at the picture that’s been portrayed of the young man’s troubles with the law and alleged association with a street gang. “He’s actually a good person. You can’t say he’s a gangster,” Mr. Hassan’s 21-year-old cousin said outside the mosque. “I don’t even know what caused this, but I just want the news to know he’s a good person.” http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/toronto/eaton-centre-shooting-victim-mourned-as-good-person/article4233084/
  19. ^Now I have a taste of what A&T must feel like. Layzie on Blessed - what a surprise! Kilil - Yunis and Aaliyaah are right. The Canadian system is absurd. You may think McM and the 3.0 GPA but as Aaliyaah pointed it's a fiction to enhance applicants. I have family members who couldn't even get an interview and accepted and given scholarships in the states. Good luck with your endevours. But you might want to think about going this route: http://www.hiiraan.com/op4/2010/aug/15557/congratulations_to_lilian_and_mohamed.aspx
  20. Yunis;847987 wrote: @ElPunto - you are fighting a losing battle here, If this girl obtained her accredited MD thru the Canadian system, she should be congratulated. The Canadian system is notoriously flawed. * 16 schools offer faculty of medical school in Canada- compare over 214 Med Schools in the states. * 6 of those schools are in Ontario. * Each school accepts 100 students per-year (Ontarians fair the worst, since all other provinces can apply Ontario, but you have to be a two year residence to apply schools in other provinces). So, in Ontario, you will be competing students from all over the country. The chances vary from school to school and are much better in other provinces. However, in Ontario where most Somalis live, the outlook is dismal; there are students with over 95% scores who can't get in. Even with high MCAT scores, students go through rigorous approval process and then three levels of soft skills interview process. Including interpersonal / social skills, emotional intelligence...etc. Then, if one is lucky at medical school, more challenges will be on your way on 'training' medical apprenticeship institutions to gain experience. Medical school being elitist, costly field, Somalis undoubtedly lack the connections, and resources, so most opt out, some head to the Caribbean or stateside. it’s a system design to keep the numbers scarce and services expensive for the professional elites and their kids..... I agree with everything you said except the first sentence. Not sure the link between losing the battle and the picture you painted below is though.
  21. Aaliyyah, Out of proportion - maybe I am. But not like you and Khaatumo topics Che - if ppl keep asking you to explain your position - you have 2 choices - you can try to make them understand or you can not bother with trying to get ppl to see your viewpoint. I usually don't do the latter.
  22. Aaliyyah;847919 wrote: As long as you see her accomplishments as worthy of emulation then we are the same page. And, personally I could careless how she presented herself in the media. But, since that is bothering you, continue your conversation... Really - if she said I come from a backward community that oppresses women and forces hijab on them and child marriage etc. (a la Ayan Ali Hirsi) At some level you are gonna care how she presents herself in relation to her community which is what I was discussing with Blessed about.
  23. It's not about sensitivity - its about being careful about what you accuse ppl of. Clearly - you haven't comprehended what the difference between the 2 stances I spoke of above was. But - let's leave it at that.
  24. ^It's a caricature that's why. Like the fat lipped black eating watermelons - we have the skinny wind whipped desert nomads of Somalia and if ladies brutally infibulated etc. AD is located in a desert but I haven't seen or heard anyone say just desert to refer to it - more along the lines of oil soaked emirate etc. Besides Somalia/Somaliland is not really a desert - arid/semi arid etc - but you can't raise 20 million head of livestock in a desert and export to the likes of AD and Saudi Arabia etc. ==== Sorry aaliyyaa - her ambition, accomplishments are worthy of congratulation and emulation - the way she presented her story to the media is totally without merit.
