  1. ^Why not - are Somalis supposed to look according to your preconceptions?
  2. ^I hope you mis-spoke - calling for killing of Jews is unislamic and not calling for their killing is not moderate - it is simply conforming with Islamic teachings:)
  3. It is unislamic to force your daughter to marry someone against her will - as seems to be the case with some of the anecdotes cited. But as others have noted - much of this 'report' was pure BS. The more I see this sorta crap - the less I respect so-called journalists.
  4. As to the slasher FOB - it seems an excessive over reaction to bullying. Beat up the bully but to scar someone physically, potentiall for the rest of one's life is WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY too much. It's the usual Somali over-reaction - someone calls a Somali the N-word and next day they bring a dagger to school and stab someone.

He was in preschool for 2 years and loved going, never had a problem. Same with starting Kindergarten and grade 1, loved it from the start! Then came grade 2, and things started to change a little. He started pretending to be sick alot (Xaa ku qayaano ah .) It has been a fight in the mornings to get him to go to school. Turns out he is being bullied by a grade 1 bully. My lil guy is even terrified to play with the neighbors' kids. Every weekend he hopes it rains so that he doesn't get sent outside to play. Wish there were grade 2 FOBs in his school to keep an eye on him. Your nephew has to learn how to confront bullies - sign him for karate or something.
  6. ^And the sad thing is - this is AP. Pretty damn pathetic:mad:

Le Pen was not - these French think that 'Les Noirs' are there to serve them. That is why I cannot support any French team however, non-white it may be.
  9. ^Thank you wise Viking. It is less to do with the punishments sanctioned by Islam - than it about the conditions under which these punishment are being carried out. I have serious difficulty with amputation for theft in a place where starvation and serious malnutrition are rampant.
  10. ^There most certainly are. There many stories of success for individual Somalis.
  11. ^It seems to me that it is not difficult to determine whether in fact they have banned ppl from watching the World Cup. If they have, then they are nasty, narrow minded tyrants wholly undeserving of the title Islamic.
  12. ^Yeah! Stick to Aussie Rules Football - whatever the hell that is!
  13. ^How interesting - so true - these news ppl have little grasp of Somalia or Somali issues. Context and specificty are completely lacking. And not to mention - lies, innuendo and conjecture that passes for news about Somalia.

On a more postive note this is my 300th post ( and in the sport section, who would've thought) LOL - my dad said 'waa labo tuug' - and turned off the game. I think that was the best reaction.
  15. ^If I was the Ghanaian govt or FA - I certainly would not have apologized.
  16. ^LOL - Kangaroo people were ecstatic to have made it this far - I doubt they harboured more hopes.
  17. Originally posted by Naden: I'm with ThePoint on this one. Israel seems to have beat the Arabs in connecting and trading with African countries the continent over and have been doing so since the birth of the Jewish state. The Arab world's deliberate policy since Abdel Nasser has been spotty save for the odd Lebanese businessman trading in everything from arms to bicycles? There is a hint of racism in the reaction of some segments of the Arab society in response to this isolated act of foolishness. Browsing through some Arabic sites, I was shocked by the frequent use of Al-Mutanabi's verse "Don't buy the slave without his stick" in response to the actions of the 2 players. If the Israeli flag is so offensive to the psyche of the Arab world, why does it fly in a number of capitals? I do sympathesize with the disappointment of the average Arab cheering for Ghana as a partially Muslim country emerging to the pride of Africans and '3rd' world people. Yes - it's that Arab hypersensitivity to anything remotely related to Israel which belies an inferiority complex. I could better understand the Arab reaction if they had been very close allies with Ghana and Ghana was solidly in the Muslim camp rather than at the periphery.
  18. ^I get that sorta reaction. It makes sense. But I have to cringe at Somalis' use of 'adoon' and 'jareer' - don't they find the least bit of irony that they were cheering for these so called 'adoon' and 'jareer'. Few peoples are as hypocritical and nasty as Somalis with regard to others.

No society or economy keeps going straight up - some of the projects and schemes are so outrageous and far-fetched - you wonder if they ever think they might lose on their investments. It hardly seems so.
  20. ^Also - please do tell about the statistics on Arab trade, business and tourism with Ghana. It is neglible in my opinion.
  21. ^Ghana has no particular need for Arab business, trade or tourism. All of those items have mutual benefits - ppl don't trade, do business or visit Ghana as a matter of preference - they do it because they see mutual benefit in it. That football player represents Ghana in a very limited sense - as an athlete. He does not represent the Ghanaian government or its foreign policy. For that matter, he does not represent the Ghanian people - his was an individual act. Just like the guy who shot the Swedish camera man doesn't 'represent' Somalis. Do you get the point?
  22. ^BTW Ghana hardly needs the 'cheering' of Palestinaians or other Arabs. Whatever Africans have been able to do - they've always done on their own with little help from their Arab 'brothers'.
  23. ^I don't get it. This man does not represent the Ghanaian government nor does he speak for Ghana's foreign policy. I admit it was a little strange for him to be waving the Israeli flag but summoning ambassadors and protests from Arab govts is ridiculous. I wonder if tbe Israeli gov't would've reacted like this if he waved the Libyan flag or some such.

  25. Interesting article - I think the xenophobia has more to do with fear that refugees will crowd out the millions of poor, black South Africans rather than any fundamental hostility to other Africans.
