^These Gulf Arabs can be rather ridiculous - imagine groups of 'Muslims' flocking to beach volleyball to "have had the chance to watch women sweating in a sports competition etc". It's just hilarious - it's almost like they're imprisoned when surely they can obtain porn etc or go over to Dubai etc. Xoolo.

Gaalkacyo siege continues, Puntland demands resident’s compliance!

You suffer me say that. Fact remains that peaceful city is invaded by Ethiopian soldiers to defend it against imaginary enemy whose threat is not realized by the majority of that city’s residents! You are of on a tangent when you used refugees caused by civil war to refute my point saaxiib. There is a long history of inner clan fighting among Somali clans. It happens all the time. Sadly. What does not happen that much often, good The Point, is to call in Tigre boys, concede the authority of the city to them, and have their first casualty to be your own soldiers. I have not seen any protest from that regions admin. But they have been very loud about Bandariidley skirmishes. Adeer - These guys did not invade the city. They were invited by the ruling authority. I don't know how you make that claim. As to people not feeling threatened - I don't know. But I wouldn't go so far as to say there is no threat whatsoever. Nor is there evidence that city authority has been conceded - how do you back up that claim? Last I checked Galkacyo was in Puntland and Puntland was ruled by Cadde and Company. The civil war is a reality - and you cannot dismiss it as the regular 'clan skirmish'. I was in the West when it was happening but I know the upheaval and destruction caused is something never before seen in Somali history. And never even imagined according to my parents. And all this was caused by Somali on Somali. So for you to magnify the Tigre presence as something overwhelmingly threatening or occupation is more than is justified by recent Somali history. Somalis, plain and simple, have been the subject of Somali bullets for the longest time not Tigre bullets - I don't see you refuting that. Rightly or wrongly - the fact is - the Puntland admin sees the ICU as more of a threat to them than Tigre or Somaliland. Otherwise why call them in. And imo, they can call in whoever they want if they perceive a threat. Obviously, the admin will have to shoulder the blame if things go wrong. I insist that Courts have no evil design to demolish Puntland admin. But that’s a side issue here really because even if we agree that these courts are aiming to invade us, I still see no justification why Ethiopia is allowed to be in Galkacyo! Puntland has been in a undeclared war with Somaliland. Somaliland is a much stronger foe than courts are to Puntland if I am not mistaken. Yet we don’t see Tigre boys roaming in Lasanod to strengthen our defense! Give me a break yaa the Point! Why is there no justification? If someone is coming to attack and take over your region you're supposed to sit back? Or do you do everything it takes? I don't know who the stronger foe is Somaliland or ICU - what is clear is Somaliland is not going for expansionist agenda while ICU is. I've never understood this strange sort of mentality that says that while my 'brother' is killing me - I cannot ask for help for my 'historic' enemy because they're my 'historic' enemy. Man - if your 'brother' is coming to kill you - you got a new and present enemy and 'historic' enemy shi*t goes out the window. -

Xiin - I don't know why you keep insisting ICU has no designs on Puntland. These guys want to bring the 'light' to everyone as they have declared. And that certainly has been their record. It seems to me premature to keep insisting on the 'purity' of their intentions vis-a-vis Puntland. I just cant swallow the raw notion that says Tigre bullets casualty is tolerable but some clans whom we share both blood and faith are to be fearlessly contained! Adeer - this was very disingenous of you and rather pathetic. Puntland and all other regions have suffered from an excess of Somali bullets NOT Tigre bullets. History clearly demonstrates that and that is why people fled to the 'Amxar' and 'Bantu' country as refugees. General - there most definitely are Tigre in Galkacyo. Their numbers are disputed but there is some discontent though nothing like Xiin seems to present. -

You: stomp your feet and stubbornly repeat "THE EARTH IS FLAT!" I got consensus to back me up. Oh boy, isn't this consensus stuff surefire way to attain knowledge! If you had comprehended the jist of my comments and other posts - you would have understood the consensus I'm talking about is that on the interpretation of the Quran, Hadith, Fiqh, etc that govern the day to day life of Muslims. This is the established consensus that renders null and void the actions and declarations of fringe groups that they alone are acting on the 'true' religion. If only triteness wasn't the very essence of your intellect - you would have understood that - but then again I expected nothing less

^I guess the people launching the suicide bombers and waging the offensive war have no responsibility for the death and destruction you forsee. Or is it that you will believe it will bring freedom and liberty from tryanny like the Americans in Iraq! I love the Politics section.

You will have to excuse people for relying on Shiek Bukhari rather than Shiek Naden Disgusting lot indeed

^Indeed a very interesting account of your trip. Looking forward to the pictures.

^Pardon my interruption. There is such a thing as consensus in Islam. The consensus of scholars over-rides the claims or actions of what are, very plainly, fringe groups. Nor does differing interpretations/outcomes from one common ideaology limited only to Islam or religion for that matter. Karl Marx's teachings have been interpretated/effected in both benign and murderous ways - and by non-religious people at that. Personally, I find the majority of these debates rather ineffectual. The people on the opposing side are very familiar with Islam and as such are cognizant of the arguments. But they have chosen a different path. Ultimately, any change in faith would have to come from God, for the knowledge is definitely registers.

^LOL - didn't even bother to look - seems like someone has done some heavy duty investigation.

^don't know - maybe if she wasn't so Arab looking - not that Arabs aren't attractive - but she's missing that special Somali ingredient imo.

So who's the Arab girl?

^I think almost any sane person can agree that suicide bombing is an unacceptable tactic in this renewed conflict in Somalia. Who are these people - are they exclusively non-Somalis? I have a hard time imagining Somalis actually doing this. But greater and greater depredation seems to be our way.

^I don't know - this new fitnah is appalling - are we to turn Somalia into a new Iraq. Both parties should get to the negotiating table ASAP. But maybe one side needs to be blooded before any progress can be made.
-
^Seems to me to be harder to convince someone to blow himself up for an entity he supports(in order to pin the blame on enemies) than to blow himself up against a 'munafiq' entity that will ensure him paradise. One scenario is more plausible than then the other. Unless of course you're a conspiracy theorist.
-
Subxanallah! How appalling! I cannot believe the ICU is fomenting this new fitnah in Somalia. As if the past 16 years in the south has not been enough. How utterly tragic.
-
^The government of Somalia always had the choice, no matter how unpalatable, of not bombing areas where civilians were living. The same for Israel in its bombardment of Lebanon. Choosing to go ahead and bomb civilian areas while dimissing the potential innocent casualties is indistinguishable from one who uses civilian areas to launch attacks from. You cannot demonize one and not the other.

Another interesting post from you. I found his repeated references to Sufis odd. And most odd of all this: "Christianity, formerly a Greek mystery religion advocating a moral code against the natural law, is in fact foreign to our national temperament. It is an exotic creed, and it is now fatally compromised by its positive view of secular modernity." That above is way too simplistic.

^Khayr, Caamir gave you a more text book answer but here is the bottom line. If China uses it dollar reserves irresponsibly(ie. sell dollars big-time) it will plunge the debt-ridden, consumption obessesed US economy into a deep recession. And given that the US economy is the largest in the world - you can bet the whole globe will be affected adversely.

I debate in a fair and balanced way. I make up my own mind and I do not jump up and down. I am consistant and everyone who has been coming to SOL in the past 4 months knows that I believe in 1 thing and thats Somalinimo. Tribal sentiments do not form my opinions. As you may have noticed my posts have gone down and thats because I got a job and I am no longer an unemployed farax , yes Mr. Red Sea, camal aan yeeshay. I disagree with your some of your comments but I decided to make light-hearted fun of them rather than do anything more serious. As to the myriad, unsubstantited accusations you've thrown out - I'll just chalk it up to you having a bad day now that you are in rat race.

Originally posted by me: ^^Positivity is the way forward when it comes to these matters. Many of Somalia's problems are the results of Somalia's colonization and the subsequent partition or our lands. Maybe critical thinking from you is too much to ask for. Somalia doesn't need pessimists today, or narrow minded individuals, Somalia needs visionaries. Positivity is the way forward for all matters but the practicality of daily life calls for a step by step process. Again, one must crawl before one can run. As to blaming all or even a majority of the problems on colonialism - that is a non-starter. Colonialism did not produce the mass orgy of rape, murder, loot and destruction never before seen in Somali history that happened in the 1990s. At some point, one must step up to one's responsiblities. The much greater degree and bruality of colonization that occurred in such places as Kenya and Zimbabwe did NOT lead to those societies' complete collapse yet you so easily ascribe our present situation to colonialism. And you have the gall to decry my critical thinking. I don't see where I lacked critical thinking - perhaps you could point it out to me before throwing out an offhand comment. Same with pessimism and narrow mindedness - you ran quite a gamut there didn't you? I disagree entirely with any need for visionaries. What Somalia needs are people who identify the local, everyday problems and focuse on solutions for them. We have no need for prophets and promised lands - that is God's domain. What we need is a straight forward focus on governance. How can we think about a dream world in the midst of filth? Again - it is a step by step process. Its ironic that the person that wrote the text quoted above should accuse the Somali nation of self-deluding chatter. It could be that you lost hope or that you wish that we loose hope. I didn't accuse the Somali nation of self-deluding chatter - I said that 'grandiose, self-deluding chatter is far too common among Somalis'. This, very clearly, pertains to individual Somalis. Most of the time - I refrain from generalizations for large groups of people. I haven't lost hope of anything - I hope one day all Somalis will live in one country - but I don't believe that is a priority right now. In fact, I know it is not a priority. BTW, my statements don't determine or define hope for others - that is the domain of each individual. Somaliaweyn and Somalinimo are two concepts that are inseparable. Somaliyar is a non starter. Somaliyar has nor functioned because it never stood a chance, everything was against it from the start. Why are Somalinweyn and Somalinimo inseparable? Why is Somaliyar a non-starter? Again, my premise is simple. Let's focus on cleaning up our backyards and getting some semblance of decent government before we start discussing the possible invasion of Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti. Step by step. What is so objectionable or incomprehensible about this approach? Imagine that Somaliweyn is a human being. Imagine that person being cut into 5 pieces and then after a while putting 2 pieces back together, do you believe that that person will function in a normal way? Your analogy couldn't be further from reality. All over Africa the arbitrary borders set up by the colonialists have separted peoples but that has not hindered whatever small acheivments they have been able to produce. In our current world - nations are coming together in political/ecnomic unions because they realize cross border cooperation at all levels enhances the lives of all involved. Think the EU or ASEAN. And here we are, below ground level in all aspects of civilized life, dreaming about an expansionist war because we can't function until we are one. The only way that Somalia will be functioning in a normal way is when Somaliweyn is realized. I hope that you can understnad that Somaliweyn is not just putting lands together. Its also re-uniting our people. Its about freeing our brothers and sisters under black colonization. That are oppressed, brutalized and marginalized. Somaliweyn and Somalinimo are ideals worth sacrificing for. These ideals are the building blocks of Somali national consciousness. They can not be erased by just 16 years of civil war. As long as there are people called Somalis, they will be fighting for their re-unification and the peaceful coexistence with their neighbours. God has created people in a remarkable fashion. Wherever you go the adaptability of man to all situations and events is astounding. But, here you claim that until Somaliweyn is acheived nothing will be normal. Normalcy is a relative concept - surely you can understand that. Re-uniting people is great. But I hope you understand that people can be united in purpose, outlook and belief without living within the same borders. Surely, you can see that - as that is a cornerstone of our religion. For me - I feel a kinship with, firstly, Muslims and particularly Somalis no matter where they are. That feeling of unity is not diminshed by borders or passports. But quite frankly, a greater problem with unity awaits Somalis in Somalia proper. Because, you see, unity is not about brotherly feeling only - it's about dealing with the practical problems of daily life in a consensual and cooperative approach. That is what we need to focus on today in Somalia.

^HAHA - I hope you notice the double entendre in the above post. Car hel warya? BTW - your posts have gone done precipitously - the mods/admin took scythe to your stuff eh!
