Shame on you adeer - there is no nobility in Islam apart from what God bestows on his servant. Correct me IF I am wrong adeer but didn't TFG agree to meeting in Khartoum and it was ICU folks who pulled out. Additionally, as the recognized government of Somalia through a multi-year process - you can understand why TFG would suddenly not want to embrace a group that might challenge its legitimacy, however small it may be. But at present - I think they recognize reality and are willing to talk. The ICU has been calling for jihad against Ethiopia and TFG although somewhat tempered lately. Additionally, there have been 2 suicide attacks against TFG. Moreover, the ICU has been stating that until Ethiopia gets out - no talks. Not the best stance if you are genuinely interested in reaching a solution to the impasse that is Somalia. After all, the TFG could make similar remarks about 'al-Qaeda' out before talks. And I would characterize that as similarly unhelpful as the ICU position.

^The 'Whoa Nelly' was my reaction to the whole thread and not just your post. I fully agree with what you wrote.

^Too much info Rudy  Originally posted by Cara: By 'interact' do you mean, eg, you're a new-born and your mother got infected with HIV from her husband and you get HIV from her breast-milk? Touche! I meant in the more active sense - as in engaging in high-risk 'interaction' with 'suspect' others. The unwitting spouses and infants have my fullest sympathies. As to those others -

^^Whoa Nelly! One thing that MMA is right about - it is defintely a chorus except for his dissenting voice. And some of the assessments are definitely premature and wildly cheer-leading. After all, it has only been less than 6 months. Bottom line for the ICU will be the 2: 1- Will they pursue their agenda only by force? 2- Will they engage in the meaningful give and take(including negotiating with those you detest) that is absolutely required if Somalia is to rebuild itself? IMO, the jury is definitely out on both those issues. And given their desire(tempered of late) to plunge Baidoa and its environs into war - I am not very hopeful.

^^^Yes - you are a freak. Go to Somalia for several months and you will be cured.

what a POS! He should be shot

^Unfortunately it seems to be the developing trend

^Adeer where and when is the program on? You can't leave us hanging like that.

^Lol - was about to post the story too. I also don't respect her decision but I do respect her courage. Her husband, brother, father and relatives are all this side of garbage imo. Have you read the other parts in the series? Very, very interesting.

^You're right. It's about the circumcision of adult men - how painful. Can't imagine the logistics of doing that. but at least they should start blanket circumcision of new born males.
-
^worse - it's done with a disdainful look

^It's not about willingness or desier - it's about persimibility. On that score - your case has failed miserably.

Originally posted by General Duke: ^^^Saxib, You seem to be confusing yourself, I choose to support a national government, weak as it maybe with my clan having only 61 out of its 275MP's with my sub-clan only having 12 MP's out of its 275. I support this government that was created in Nairobi, which was neutral and in which every Somali clan elders sent their representations and all major players including Abdiqasin took part in its contest. I support this government that is not based in my clan region, that is based in Baidoa which my clan does not dominate nor is even geographicly located. I support this government weak as it maybe, that has the support of all Somali's and the international community. So dear Abwan, is it not you who hates the government, because its President is from Puntland? And resent that my sub-clan's 12 MP's. So when you read that - all you got was - Duke supporting TFG because of A/Y????? Please! Keep it down lad.
-
^I hardly have the time to dig everything up for you lad - but saying Duke supports TFG simply because of his 'uncle' is a clan based insult. While you proclaim for yourself a detachment from clan 'support'. The point is tone it down. It's not that hard - simply follow Duke's example as you have said - he 'rsponded perfectly'.

Yes. I thought that was clear. 1. Marrying a Christian woman is something that Allah has permitted in the Qur'an (An-Nisaa': 5), and you are not allowed to forbid what Allah has permitted.

^Go look it up - this is not shocking new stuff

Originally posted by Jaylaani: Duke, First of all, Somaliland has nothing to do with my personal perspective. Lets make clear on that one. Due to the current conditions and dynamics of Somali politics, my assessment is more close to the reality on the ground than your illusion dream. I know you don’t believe this but I would love to see Somali proper with functioning, well to do and able government. I'm just NOT convinced that your uncle and his family dreams of rising from the dead again to rule Somalia is feasible. Just look at this forum. The only individuals that are supporting this so called government have direct link of clan affiliation with A/Y. I wonder why. Truth hurts but that is the fact. The sooner you realize that the better.. Anyone who participates in the Politics section as much as you can hardly lob clan based insults at another. Much less declare that their 'assessment is closer to reality'. Bal iska amus. If your opinion comes to pass - everyone will see it. Meantime - tone it down.

^That is simply incorrect - modern scholars do not interpret 'People of the Book' as the ones who followed the original books - 'People of the Book' is interpreted as the modern day Christians and Jews. I think it is fairly clear that one has the ability to marry a Shia - but opinions will vary on whether one should.

^y - good read - and down with the Qaad-heads

^Well - u only get the disease if you 'interact' with the saqachaans(sp) who carry it - otherwise it doesn't touch you.

JOHANNESBURG, Dec. 13 -- Two major studies released Wednesday confirmed that circumcision can dramatically slow the spread of HIV among African men, suggesting that widely offering the procedure could prevent millions of deaths in countries most seriously affected by AIDS, researchers said. The studies, in Kenya and Uganda, found that circumcised men are about 50 percent less likely to contract HIV than those who are not, a result that echoed similar research last year from South Africa. In all three studies, the results were so persuasive that researchers stopped their experiments several months early and offered circumcisions to all of the subjects, deeming it unethical to withhold a procedure that might prevent an often-fatal disease. The results appeared to dispel lingering doubt that circumcision protects men from AIDS. But it only sharpened questions about whether it is possible to offer the procedure widely enough to slow an epidemic that kills millions of people each year, mostly poor Africans with scant access to safe, modern medical facilities. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/12/13/AR2006121301155.html ------------------------------- It is funny that there is debate about the ability to offer it to poor Africans when the equally poor Africans in Somalia etc are able to do it.

Djib - I think you answered the question. It is not secular or religious or Islamic that matters with regard to this. It is about accountability, responsibility, spreading awareness and clean government. I looked at the stats for Djibouti - how is possible that 10% of populace has it? Djibouti has worse rate than Ethiopia or Kenya. Strange.

^Somalis call other black ppl the N-word and worse things. Is there any point complaining about Arab racism when Somali racism is even worse. Somalis ruined their own country for the most part. About the only thing Somalis could fault the Arabs with is their lack of hospitable welcome - but then again, there weren't that hospitable to the Palestinians either.
