Alow Umadaada kala badbaadi. Islamic militia poised to take over Somalia 20/07/2006 - 07:09:02 A top official in Somalia’s Islamic militia said his forces will soon seize the base of the country’s weak interim government, a move that would give radical militants uncontested authority over much of the country. The government, which is internationally recognised but wields no real power outside its base in Baidoa, was on high alert, officials said. “The Islamic Court, the ideology they are espousing is a very dangerous ideology – they think they have the right to achieve things through violence, and that is dangerous,†Deputy Prime Minister Ismail Hurreh said in demanding that the militia retreat. The Supreme Islamic Courts Council militia seized Mogadishu last month and installed strict religious courts, sparking fears of a Taliban-style regime. The US has accused the militia of links to al-Qaida that include sheltering suspects in the 1998 bombings of US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. Yesterday, more than 200 Islamic fighters seized the town of Bur Haqaba and were continuing toward Baidoa, 60km away, witnesses said. The military movement came one day after the government started recruiting its own soldiers in central Somalia. “Nothing will stop us from going into Baidoa,†said Sheikh Muqtar Robow, deputy defence chief for the Islamic group. He gave no timetable for an attack, but said more than 130 fighters who were loyal to President Abdullahi Yusuf had defected to the Islamists’ side. “I call on remnants of Yusuf’s clan forces to leave Baidoa peacefully,†Robow said. “Anyone who wants to leave will not be harmed.†Another Islamic official denied fighters were planning to seize Baidoa, offering a different explanation for why the Islamists were spotted on the outskirts of the government seat. “Our aim of going to the region is to convince people in the region to implement Islamic law and establish Islamic courts,†said Mohamed Ibrahim Bilal, head of the local miltia that seized control of Bur Haqaba. Robow later travelled to the capital, accompanied by government fighters who had defected. Yesterday’s developments place in serious doubt the resumption of the peace talks scheduled to begin on Saturday in Khartoum, Sudan, a month after the two sides agreed to stop all military action. The government agreed to resume talks under pressure from foreign governments that are pushing for a unified administration in Somalia.

Yo Blair! Bush And Blair Unplugged 2:07 PM, 18 Jul 2006 Print this story United States President, George W Bush, has described what Hezbollah is doing in Lebanon as “shit†in an unguarded conversation recorded by a television camera. President Bush’s informal chat with British Prime Minister Tony Blair was picked up at the end of the G8 morning session in St Petersburg by a Russian media microphone and broadcast around the world. The conversation shows Mr Bush and Mr Blair get on so well that the President greets the Prime Minister with the words “Yo, Blair. How are you doin’?†In “Bush and Blair unpluggedâ€, the U.S. President expresses his delight at being given a present, apparently a Burberry sweater, by his British friend. On the unfolding Middle East conflict, Mr Bush suggested a solution. “The thing is that what they need to do is get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this shit and it’s over,†he told Mr Blair. The “they†was widely presumed to be Russia. A transcript of their exchange also reveals that Mr Blair volunteered for the task of going to the Middle East and taking the heat ahead of a visit by “Condiâ€, or U.S. Secretary of State. Condoleezza Rice. Asked what Mr Bush said when told his comments were overheard, White House spokesman Tony Snow said: "His reaction first was 'What did I say?', so we showed him the transcript, then he rolled his eyes and laughed." Following is a transcript of the conversation. BUSH Yo, Blair. How are you doin’? BLAIR I’m just . . . BUSH You’re leaving? BLAIR No, no, no, not yet. On this trade thingy . . .(inaudible) BUSH Yeah, I told that to the man. Thanks for the sweater it’s awfully thoughtful of you. BLAIR It’s a pleasure. BUSH I know you picked it out yourself. BLAIR Absolutely (inaudible). BUSH What about Kofi? (inaudible) His attitude to ceasefire and everything else . . . happens. BLAIR Yeah, no I think the (inaudible) is really difficult. We can’t stop this unless you get this international business agreed. BUSH Yeah. BLAIR I don’t know what you guys have talked about, but as I say I am perfectly happy to try and see what the lie of the land is, but you need that done quickly because otherwise it will spiral. BUSH I think Condi is going to go pretty soon. BLAIR But that’s, that’s, that’s all that matters. But if you . . . you see it will take some time to get that together. BUSH Yeah, yeah. BLAIR But at least it gives people . . . BUSH It’s a process, I agree. I told her your offer to . . . BLAIR Well, it’s only if, I mean, you know. If she’s got a, or if she needs the ground prepared, as it were. Because obviously if she goes out, she’s got to succeed, if it were, whereas I can go out and just talk. BUSH You see, the thing is, what they need to do is to get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this shit and it’s over. (inaudible) BLAIR Syria. BUSH Why? BLAIR Because I think this is all part of the same thing. BUSH Yeah. BLAIR What does he think? He thinks if Lebanon turns out fine, if we get a solution in Israel and Palestine, Iraq goes in the right way . . . BUSH Yeah, yeah, he is sweet. BLAIR He is honey. And that’s what the whole thing is about. It’s the same with Iraq. BUSH I felt like telling Kofi to call, to get on the phone to Assad and make something happen. BLAIR Yeah. BUSH We are not blaming the Lebanese Government. BLAIR Is this . . .? (he taps the microphone in front of him and the sound is cut.)

The Gambia Says "Somaliland" delegates entered Banjul improperly WardheerNews, July 12, 2006 (WDN) - Delegates claiming to represent Somaliland at the AU summit in Banjul, Mr. Hussein Ali Duale (Awil), Minister of Finance, and Abdillahi Mohamed Duale, Minister of Information, lied on their visa applications to enter Banjul, the Gambia. Ministers Abdillahi A. Duale and Hussein Ali Duale (Awil) According to the Somali Ambassador at the AU, Mr. Abdikarim Farah, the Gambian authorities have in their possession the initial immigration visa applications which the two ministers from the breakaway region completed. The applications reportedly show they claimed that they were visiting the Gambia for tourist purposes. It is also reported that the passports which they used to travel to the Gambia were European passports. WardheerNews has learned that the Somali Embassy in Addis Ababa made an extra effort for some time now to ensure the breakaway region of Northern Somalia, also known as "Somaliland," not to be welcomed at the Africa Union (AU) meeting in the Gambia, Banjul, which came to a conclusion On July 5, 2006. Ambassador A. Farah In May 2006, when reports claiming that the President, of "Somaliland," Mr. Dahir Rayaale Kahin requested to attend and participate as an observer at the AU summit at Banjul came out, the Somali Ambassador in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Ambassador Abdikarim Farah, made an official contact to his counter part in the Ethiopian capital. In a written communication, Ambassador Farah asked his counter part on the authenticity of reports that the Gambian government was planning to extend an invitation to Mr. Kahin and a delegation from that breakaway region of Somalia ("Somaliland") to attend the the AU summit in Banjul. The Gambian Ambassador responded kindly by saying that the meeting is only for the AU member states and few international dignitaries and his country in particular does not recognize "Somaliland," nor is his country aware of any invitation accorded either to Mr. Rayaale or his representatives. Ambassador Farah told WardheerNews that the TFG delegation at the summit learned that the two ministers from Mr. Kahins government were unofficially contacting delegates in and around the summit venue. The Gambia government contacted the TFG delegation, he said, to learn the whereabouts of the two individuals, but we could not provide them with any substantive information as to their addresses and where they were staying in Banjul. The information of the two individuals talking unofficially to some conference participants only surfaced towards the end of the summit, said Ambassador Farah, This was the last day where all delegates were hurriedly on their way out of Banjul. Ambassador Farah stated in his comments to WardheerNews by saying that the Gambia did not invite anyone from the breakaway region of Northern Somalia. Ambassador Farah concluded his report by saying the AU position on Somalia's territorial integrity is solid and unwavering, and the AU repeatedly told those who entertain secession to work out their problems with their brethren and move on with the peace and development agenda. "Somaliland" unilaterally declared independence from Somalia in 1991. Since then, the Republic of Somaliland, as it calls itself, has received no international recognition and some of the former districts of the British Somaliland Protectrate have opted to join neighboring Puntland. The Canbarians never attend lectures-- supervisions (for the oxonian that is tutorials) are must. This is where you learn not only about the subject you are reading but also about the univ culture and what you are expected of. I remember in a Roman Law supervision (the most tediously bore course for the whole Tripos) my then supervisor Hoppo engaged in political set up of the univ. That was the best hour I spent in Roman Law. May be the cowley polly can not longer afford one to one tutorials! oh well get a good fund managers!!!. Wacdaraha Aduunka; which college are you at? I was in Cambridge last weekend for May week. What are you reading there? Oh by the way what is "the institute of educational equilibrium"? that sounds aliens to moi.

Salamu Alaikum My interest in the Capital Markets was first ignited after my breif stint with Euromoney. I become curious with the whole of the Derivatives Market that is what led me to my current role as Capital Introductions guy !. I did bit of bit of exotic options on FX side! mainy G7 currencies with a help of a mate who is master in futures trading. But that changed completely when a freind of mine who was star arb Trader at one of the best equity houses in the world left his job because of the un Islamic nature of the traditional stock market. The uncertainty (Gharar) was what drove him out. Now, i don't do that any more. I am interested in Islamic finance and now am involved in a paper on Sakuk and what is called trading under certainty (Islamic Sharia perspective). A good book to read on trading (specially on FX market?) is Soros on Soros. It is an interview with George Sorros. Great read. You will be in the company of a master. Happy Trading!!!!
