Somali peace conference postponed AGAIN BBC, 15 July 2007--A national reconciliation conference in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu has opened - and then immediately adjourned. Organisers postponed the conference until Thursday to allow more time for all the delegates to arrive. Several mortar shells landed near the venue on Sunday, injuring civilians, but President Abdullahi Yusuf said violence would not deter the talks. The main Islamist opposition have refused to attend, saying the venue is not neutral. Somalia has been without a functioning government for 16 years. Clan focus Hundreds of Ethiopian and Somali government troops are patrolling the streets in Mogadishu and guarding the former police warehouse where the talks will be held. Over 1,000 clan elders, former warlords and politicians from across the country have been invited. The opposition Islamic Courts, who were driven from the city by Ethiopian and Somali forces and who are now mainly in exile in Eritrea, say they cannot attend because of the presence of their Ethiopian enemies. A number of delegates from the international community who had planned to attend the opening ceremony were unable to, when their flights were cancelled over security concerns. When talks begin, they are expected to focus on clan reconciliation, disarmament and sharing natural resources. But critics say clan conflict is not the major problem and the focus should be on reconciliation between political and armed groups. "The conference would make sense if it was bringing rival politicians and armed groups to the same table," said Ahmed Diriye, a spokesman for the powerful H clan. "But if the idea is to talk about a non-existent tribal conflict, it's a waste of money and energy." "There is no clan conflict at the moment in Somalia but there is a political conflict," Yusuf Hassan Ibrahim, a member of an opposition alliance linked to the Islamic Courts told the BBC. "We are calling for a national reconciliation conference which will deal with the differences between the Transitional Federal Government and the other stakeholders, including former parliamentary groups, the Islamic Courts, civil society and the Somali diaspora."

i bileieve the three large factory which include a cement factory underground coal factory and third which am not sure yet are set to cost 300M, or that what the government are saying atleast, which seems alot but then again Berbera really needs these large scale investments if it is set to compete other regional ports such as Djbouti and Asmara.

Indeed 26 of june is special day although bak home it has taken very quite back seat to the 18/05... but neverthekless this is special day not just for somaliland but for all somalis becuase it was the first time a somali flag was hoisted in liberty. it was a time of unparralelled nationlism which swept al the way to the to muqdisho, indeed you cant help but feel a sense of shame when you look at how the great dream and vision of liberty park has been raped by savages we all know too well. Mudane Siilaanyo oo kulan balaadhan la yeeshay beesha galbeedka Burco
Qudhac replied to Jacaylbaro's topic in Politics
JB Democracy and good governance is achieved by trail and error over period of time, what you have to understand is government are public servants and in order for public servants not to abuse their position there has to be system in place to hold them accountable, now unless there is accountability then people will abuse their positions, its same with government usually they only work when they fully know if they mess up the the voter will kick them out. we need this mentallity in somaliland, there is no point just saying i will vote for UDUB/Kulmiye/Ucid for life because they not doing you a favour once they stop serving the public then we should boot them out. once each party knows there will be accountibility ie punishment and reward for good government then you will see performance. even if we have to go back a step i.e elect inexperiance party then so be it. i just cant imagine Riyaale and his ministers for another five years. also i think 5 years should be reduced to four. -

Qudhac replied to Jacaylbaro's topic in Politics
JB i think its good for somaliland young democracy if no one feels they have god given right to ruyle, and once a particuler government feel they are outside the grasp of the public then they start to behave like royalty and i beleieve thats exacly what Riyaale and his henchmen of 50+ ministers are doing now... they strut around on public funds and do absaloutly nothing, they cant even change the money burco use and they been saying they will do it for the last eon yrs, they are useless bunch of money wasters who spend their whole time on either watching what the opposition doing and to try and descredit them or to try and silence the media, its 2007 and the citizens of somaliland are not even allowed to have radio station or public owned tv. i could go on and on but its not the time or place, i think the best thing to get these crooks out and give another party a chance this way the whole grass root of democracy is given a kick start, cos with riyaale and UDUB everything just feels old and stagnated that lack vibrance and new ideas. UDUB is lam duck that is out of ideas. -
Mudane Siilaanyo oo kulan balaadhan la yeeshay beesha galbeedka Burco
Qudhac replied to Jacaylbaro's topic in Politics
i think silaanyo seems to be obsessed with getting one particuler clan to vote for him, since he lost the last election he seems to have put all the reasons for losing at the feet of this clan. and since then he seems to have been on personal crusade to win their vote, but the funny think that particuler community are well known for their lets says "independant mind" and to be honest never really do anything as one, and i think he is wasting his time by thinking he can get them to all vote vote for him, because the be honest the ones that live in west burco aint the same as the one in hargeisa or ceerigabo or anywhere else. so instead of concentrating on tribal politics, people like silaanyo should concentrate on local village politics, and appeal to REER BURCO, REER HARGEISA REER AWDAL, REER CEERIGABO i this that more appealing than clan politics. -

Qudhac replied to Jacaylbaro's topic in Politics
good discusion, but lets get to the poin here, in somaliland we have pretty useless and over bloated government, made worse by the useless and innept so called 'wasiiro'who swanp around the small pond of revenue this small nation generate and build lovely villas. now this may not sound too suprising after all that what a typical african government is, but the citizens of somaliland dont usually settle for the ttypical' even if it breaks their backs. so its time some serious pressure is applied to these useless crooks who are after all public servants, but behave like Royalty. I really dont see the Effing Point of Giving UDUB another bloody term, the problem seems to be that the opposition is not fit for government, because the other two parties sometimes behave like fanatical gorilla rebel (by the way this statement has nothing to do with the Honourable freedom fighters of SNM) rather than political party with policies and wide appeall to both majority and monority groups. i would love to see KULMIYE elected but am not sure about the Silaanyo of 2007 and if he is really capable of stable head of state, so maybe its time Kulmiye change the front door if they dont want be seen as party stuck in past and elect youndger more vibrant and less baggage than silaanyo, while UCID (LICUD) seems well organised and pretty well runed party but they seem to have smaller appeall and are not there yet but maybe one for the future, i also dont like their Socialist policies they seem to copy from scandanavian countries. -

Ereterian backed terrorist kulahaa alla maxaa dad gumoobeen, allow sharafta hanaga qaading. the entity of punt land has been a failled entity for severall years now thanks to the useless mr cade who has install a little regime which relies on neptosim and corruption to survive, cade and his henchmen have turn punland into an entity of piracy and human trafficing and dumping site for nuclear waste. and since those sources of income have dried up its the good old terrorist card and xabashi lab dancing. if reer puntland dont get rid of these bunch i think it will all end in tears.

Somaliland will not waste time in chasing greater Somalia mirage No true Somalilander would waste their time attending the much delayed and much talked about Somalia reconciliation meeting slated for June 15th. It is going to be another charade of self-interest, self-publicity and self-delusion. Somaliland has already had its dialogue and discussions and has reached a consensus. Somaliland is based on democracy and the rule of law. Whatever discussion that are going to take place among the conflicting groups in Somalia, this is frankly their own business. Since 1991, there have been at least fourteen attempts to put things in order for the miserable people of Somalia, and this will the the fifteen attempt. Sadly, there is no common or shared values between the peoples of Somalia. The main goal of every so-called interim leader is to shed more blood and settle a few scores. Somaliland is beyond such despicable practises. Somaliland has a thriving democracy, with a free and often vociferous media. Somaliland has checks and balances, with involve a hearty debate and the voice of the majority. In Somaliland, we don't' settle arguments at the point of an AK47, or through self-martyrdom, we debate, cajole and reach a consensus. So, I return to my previous point, there is an old Somali proverb, "hadal badani, haan ma buuxiyo", as much as I admire and marvel at the verbosity those who write lengthy and voluminous articles, I prefer to the get to the point. No true Somalilander would even consider wasting their time and energy on a meeting which hasn't nor will ever have any meaning for Somaliland. If there those among us in Somaliland, who feel the need to chase the "mirage" of a greater Somalia, let them read their history and learn from it. If there are those among us in Somaliland who hunger for power, then I say to them exercise your franchise under the Somaliland constitution. If the people of Somaliland vote for the person they consider worthy of leading the nation, then irrespective of social, economic or clan status, he or she will have our loyalty. If there are those among us going solely for the few dollars per Diem, my brothers and sisters, money is not everything. Better to be a free beggar in Somaliland, than a chained millionaire in no man's land. It is time for Somalilanders to stop devoting so much time to the internal politics of Somalia. It is different country with a different set of problems. We wish the people of Somalia well for the future, but whatever the outcome of the peace talks in Somalia, they will not have any effect on the situation in Somaliland. No mortal can turn back the clock.
