  1. Hagi The title I would like to put on the table is : Is The crisis in Somalia one stemmed from external? Is it a problem of ethnicity? Is it a problem of faith and ideology? Or is it an economic problem “survival”. if we knew the root causes of our problem and we agree then we would not have long arguements and disagreements. we should simply talk the solutions but the nature of the crises and imperfact knowledge of its root causes make us talk and disagree to find the possible, agreeable and move near the centre. having said that, if i put my thinking forward somalia's crisis are underpined by economic disparity because we live in very poor country interms of natural resource ie. scarce water and limited agricaltural land where most of our people live. we don't have gas, gold, diamond etc. that is why we kill each other for centures. limited resources also force people to belief their tribes. although we have large sea but it is insuficient and need more specialisation and skills. if you see the current troubles the people who live central somali migrated and overtaken the most fertile regions of the country and totally displaced the natural inhabitant of that area. The nature of the crisis are always the same "economic" but its expression always changes. there is also crisis of faith in our people as they couldn't figure out how islam and communist work together and if collided with each other which one to retain it. ignorance and bad leadership also take their position. so if we want to live together peacefully and develop then we should recognise the economic inequality in our country and learn how to share.
  2. samurai & co isn't this what c/allah yusuf had inmind when he created those new regions. 3. most of the time i spent in politics section but this time this thred forced me to think again. its realy fun! no stress life. pic with the tayota well in Mogadishu i use to ride like that no problem. my favorate one is painting in the pool.
  4. is this solves the real problems that the people of pland are facing right now. this subdivision of regions only dries up the much needed funds for their daily problems, encourages every sub clan to have their own region and god forbid increases chance of creating Badme situation where thousands of human lives were sacrafied for plot of land between Ethio and Eritrea. i realy dont know what good it does for the people of mentioned areas except to create more useless politicias.
  5. Zakariye if he is man enough he needs to publicly apologize for name calling the professor he was campaigining against his employment at the Universtiy,Then yes i might understand him well, untill then, he is good for nothing and lunatic. i also against that incident but you can't discredit this talented prof because of this one incident. He is only human, nothing more. after all both profs where same political camp i.e Arta conference. so chill out and give the guy fair judgement.
  6. although i don't agree some analysis of somali political issues with Prof. Abdi but i have utmost respect for him. he is political activist as well as a distinguished academic and also brillient writer, skills that few somalis poses. his only disadvantage is that his is a somalilander who happen to be campaigning for SOOMAALIWAYN! AND fierce opponent of somali warlordism. i think that is why he is attacked from every direction.
  7. Is it only me or other people suspect that a trend is emerging from horn of africa. First Kenya then Djabouti and now somaliland blame their crimes, bad economy and internal problems for somali people and make excuses to get rid of these defendless people. I don't know what these adminstrations up-to but i think they misleading their people by picking up somali refugees in their areas. Who said that somaliland people can't commit murders or other crimes. I don't know how they come to this conclusion that other somalis done it. i really don't know it.
  8. AYOUB-SHEIKH somalia is different from other countries because of its history and its tribal make-up. so its peace conferences are always different but many outsiders don't understand that. they have total ignorance about somali situation. They will be flown back well dressed with brand new “Xamari” koofias and colorful long turbans. this is what somaliland kings will receive when they go mogandisho after meeting with their closest tribal kinship. best wishes
  9. I think this story is part of scare tactics used by many warlords and their supports. Abdulahi yousuf, Hussien aideed, Shatigaduud and so forth get help from the Ethiopians who are in turn use these stories to get more money from the Bush administration. So when you hear stories like this, especially from warlords and their supporters, take it with a pinch of salt. best wishes
  10. I have to agree with HornAfrique for his division of power and it’s also a practical solution for many disagreements. I also would like to see specialisation in other parts of the country so all the regions will have its share of employment, investment and so forth. best wishes
  11. It is still far too early to declare the continent's wars at an end. But for once there seems more light than darkness on the African scene. may allah increase the light in africa and specially in somalia, my beloved beautiful country. amin.
  12. i don't know what is so funny about ordinery people, like lady mentioned in the artical, who are desprately trying to bring thier country and people in peace. they are strugling between merciless warlords, enemy countries, interest oriantated individuals, ignorant nation, fantasist diasbora and unconcerned world. Put anyone you like and they will just act like them. African sister you maybe laghing at her loud i'm sure she is not. Muraad bro this one may also fail but no one knows the future eccept Allah. this conference has a potential for success and one of them is emerging larger alliences that can cross tribal lines. so i am optimist and i know the capabilities of somali people. they may surprise the world by creating able government in somalia that can establish peace and security. who knows. best wishes
  13. may Allah have mercy on him. amin
  14. Allaha u naxariisto, may Allah give him reward for his good deeds. amin
  15. hi everybody some people find our peace talks fun, but i'm not realy laughing. do you? Somali peace talks a laughing stock DPA , NAIROBI Sunday, Oct 19, 2003,Page 6 An old woman with a Somali flag wrapped around her takes a swing at a member of parliament. Groups of men sit around playing cards or chewing narcotic khat leaves. A warlord with a shaved head, sunglasses and a foot-long grey beard tells the press peace is at hand. It's just another day at the Somali peace talks. One year after negotiations aimed at ending Somalia's civil war began amid great optimism, the talks have little tangible to show for the effort -- or for the price tag, estimated at more than US$2 million. If Somalia's situation weren't so tragic, the ballooning list of delegates, disputes with hotel owners and fisticuffs that marred the early phase of the talks could have been considered comical. read the full artical here http://www.hiiraan.com/htdocs/2003/oct03/oct19.htm best wishes
  16. US general: 'I'm not anti-Islam' A leading US general has apologised for appearing to cast the war on terrorism as a spiritual battle between Christianity and Satan. Evangelical Christian Lieutenant-General William G Boykin said in a statement that he never meant to offend Muslims. "I am not anti-Islam or any other religion... I support the free exercise of all religions," he said. read more here http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3202690.stm
  17. Jamaal-11 To start with, Xeer and Law are different in terms of how to inforce them. Xeer is inforced by ones own beel or tribe and if they are unwilling to do so then revenge starts. whereas Law is enforced by law institutions and and so on. When somalia became a nation state then law overrided all xeers except where a provission is made to coxistant each other. As far as this artical is concerned it ignores somalia as a State and put us back in pre-colonial era. We need peace but more importantly what state offers, things we are enjoying in this countries we are living now. Somalia is experiencing difficults that other country also experienced once in their existance. We know what anarchy is so we don't want anyone who is promoting it.
  18. i hope his country will produce leader like him and other muslim countries will try to get some one like him. As he retired now he can travel to muslim countries sharing his experience with other muslim leaders and their people. best wishes
  19. he is just an other Christian militant and paranoid man.
  20. I welcome anything that strengthens the relations between Somalis or even neighbours in east Africa. The sides also discussed "how best to bring closer the two brotherly peoples", added the official they should be doing this all along. The people on both sides of the border were one and the same, he said, so they "had to take advantage of this kind of opportunity to eventually solve their differences and find areas of common understanding". how true! "Af kaaga caano iyo cad baruur ah lagu qabay" best wishes
  21. well somaliland is Somali's land as used to be called British Somaliland, Italian Somaliland, French Somaliland and so on. i don't agree though what siad barre's said about somali's land. i head one's that somali camel where seen in Eritrea and Sudan do you suggest we have claim their? having said that the name of Somaliland is the brand name of one part of Somalia which is northern part. best wishes
  22. i totally agree what Dr Mahathir has said. in this world the most organised people rule it and this time it happens to be the Jew. if Muslims organise themselves and use their brain more, then we going rule this world for the better. i hope his courage inspires more Muslim leaders to understand the main issues for the Muslims and say it in public so they send right message to Muslims and non Muslims that we don't accept humiliation. best wishes
  23. thanks for the post bro. i also pray for those who are trying to educate our people in the most difficult situations and we should give them our undivided support. best wishes
  24. Some people are showing us the way forward and we should call them our heroes. They sacrificed everything for the well being of Somali people. read this Medics Quit Cushy Lives to Help Mogadishu's Sick MOGADISHU, Somalia (Reuters) - A doctor slices a scalpel into AbdiFatah's bleeding groin to repair a botched circumcision. The boy screams. But the urologist's expert care puts a big smile on the face of his relieved father, Mohammad Ahmad, who rushed the 8-year-old to hospital only minutes earlier. "You did a good job," he tells the doctor, who treated his son as an emergency, and for free. "I regret having done the circumcision outside. Next time I'll come to the hospital!" Relief of traumas big and small is a daily event at Arafat hospital in Mogadishu, a 2-year-old facility which every day sees 300 new patients and 200 others returning for check ups. http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=ourWorldNews&storyID=3602655 best wishes
  25. i think this guy doesn't know anything about somalia so he needs to learn more about the country, its people and its long history before writing this insulting load of rubbish.
