  1. Oodka, You took the 'Karzai' analogy right out of my mouth Baashi, Since you choose to concentrate on that passage you posted above(I don't think it's that significant in the larger scope of things).... ...the dialogue on the future structure of Somalia that has begun between the Federal Government and the regions. We welcomed progress on forming regional administrations and looked forward to the completion of that process. We encouraged the regions to work closely with the Federal Government to form a cohesive national polity consistent with the provisional constitution." The question is 'the progress of whom on forming regional administrations' is the so-called IC welcoming?? Is it Hassan Sheikh's forming of provisional administrations in certain regions or is it the Jubba initiative they are welcoming??

  3. Was Jubba mentioned specifically? That's what I was alluding to in the post. Internal Somali politicking was to be avoided at all costs - while we Somalis, in our myopic self-obsession, see things only in how it plays out in our internal score-settling. The purpose of the Conference was designed to streamline the various, disjointed initiatives floating around re:the Somali issue. It seems both the West and some of the Arab petro-monarchies are vested in increasing the 'diplomatic' clout of Hassan Sheikh and his government. I pointed this out with the 'diplomatic recognition' of his government by 'Uncle Sam' earlier this year. That's when the die was cast and a conscious decision was made by the U.S. to present Hassan Sheikh as 'the political solution' to the Somali problem. Everyone else in the international community just fell behind in lock-step after that. Hence, this 'unprecedented' diplomatic support he's receiving - greater than any other Somali leader since the implosion of Somalia in 1991. Quite pressure is being applied on both the Kenyans and Ethiopians to get behind the blueprint of the Federal Gov't when it comes to internal Somali 'gerrymandering'(political formation of regions/states). It's a delicate pressure on the part of the West(U.S.&U.K.) b/c on the one hand they need the Kenyan and Ethiopian military contingents to contain and then eventually flush-out the Al Shabaab menace(there's no further appetite in the West for foreign incursions in Muslim-lands with Western boys coming home in body-bags) yet on the other hand, the West is committed to increasing the legitimacy of Hassan Sheikh and his clique as a functioning, governing administration while minimizing the long-practiced strategy of neighboring countries to play their different Somali clients against each other. Overall, it's not a time(current time) to pick a fight with Hassan Sheikh and company. The ball is in his court and the supporters of the current Jubba initiative have no choice but to keep reacting to his moves rather than moving forward. How long the Western goodwill for Hassan Sheikh and co. lasts is another question entirely......

The purpose of the Conference is not to be a 'Donor Conference' as some have claimed here, but rather for the key stake-holders to streamline their various initiatives and strategies in their 'Somalia' stabilization programs. Currently, you have disjointed initiatives coming from various corners of the IC, with much duplication and actions and funding at cross-purposes. Three areas will be tackled in this Conference: 1)the Security Sector 2)improving Somalia's public finance management(PFM), and finally 3)the need to move to a unified , long-term development plan for Somalia. The sole purpose of the Conference is to coordinate the IC's various initiatives in these 3 areas. The actual 'Donor/Funding' Conference will be in Brussels in the Fall/Autumn of 2013. From 4 days ago.... Anything different happen??
  5. Carafaat, Notice I wrote "will attempt to sideline the Jubba issue and other internal Somali issues". We don't know whether this will be successful or not, given both Somalis and IGAD will be participants at the Conference(both for whom the Jubba issue is a priority). However, if London I is any example(from last year, I think), the official post-Conference communique will already be inked/written before the Conference even starts...

  7. MarioB, What you fail to understand is where the anger here is coming from. With your posted story, you proved 'unreliable' the narrative given by some on these Boards of how the Jubba experiment is progressing. Not only that, but you posted an article from the official broadcasting agency of the U.S. gov't. Now, some have pointed to the fact that a Somali reporter is cited for the story. However, this is the English Service of the VOA, with an American(non-Somali) editorial board(which had to approve the story before release). So the story can be taken one of two ways. It's either a true reflection of the situation as the VOA sees it or this is the preferred spin of the U.S. gov't on the Jubba issue. Either way, it doesn't look good for one of the competing sides. This Jubba issue is a touchy one in certain corners - who mistakenly believe the outcome will be decided in the back-and-forth on these discussion forums rather than on the ground. The game on the ground is much different... and different actors have their rooks, knights, and bishops lined up.........

Ever wondered what the secessionists were up to when these men were ruling over their territories and people. Hint. Saancadaale. Masha'Allah... Unlike some of my kin(like our Sijui Stoic), I'm neither the descendent nor the relative of any Sultan, Boqor, or Garaad. I'm just a camel herder with dusty feet. Yet for some reason, since time immemorial, the descendents of these men pictured above have always run at the mere sight of me.... Bogus claims of humanitarian disasters and genocides are just face-saving ways to cover up defeat after defeat. Hmmmm..... I just couldn't help myself with that open goal

I'm pointing out that Uncle Sam says the claim is bogus! I presented you with official proof of Unce Sam's position to show how impotent the positions of the 2 hecklers at Siilaanyo's meeting seemed to Uncle Sam's gov't. Comprende?? As for Ali Isse and his meetings in Nairobi, by just verifying that piece of news from your 'tol', it might give you a new perspective on how things really stand. By now, I have a long record on this Forum, and making conjectures is not one of them. I differentiate in my writing between what's theory and what's actual fact. The record of my stated facts, only to be later proven true to the fullest extent, stands on the Forum archives for all to see.
  11. Oodka, Xiin never cared for Sool, only as a 'mule' for his own agenda. But the A_Khadar's and Zack's are easily duped with slogans of 'Big Tents'. To get Xiin really involved, all you have to do is mention Kismaayo Cadde. You'll immediately hear a high-pitched, ear-chilling "Waqaaaaaaq". "Why are you bringing up Kismayo?? Aren't you a Northerner? Why don't you mind your business?" One almost thinks the poor Xiin has a trademark on the name 'Kismayo'
  12. A_Khadar, I'm at the risk of coming across as 'walking on top of those down for the count' --- Dul-socosho.... So I'll leave it there.... After all, if nothing else, I've shown you, today, what the U.S. gov't thinks of your phantom genocide claims. Let me know when you find out about Ali Isse. At least, that will give you an idea of whether I know what I'm talking about or not. I notice you keep avoiding the Ali Isse issue, though Oodweyne, The funny thing about the Khaatumo-boosters on this Board is: They probably have never seen a single inch of Sool in their lives From Xamar, straight to Qurbaha... While the majority of their leadership never grew up in Sool, spent the majority of their life outside of Sool, and have no interest in living in the place, ever!

Zack, It's irrelevant whether I'm for it or against it. I have no influence over the outcome(even though some on this Forum give me supernatural powers to affect the outcome & pray that I will stop commenting...LOL). But I do enjoy commenting on the political game from the sidelines & pointing out the latest developments. 18. Zack, Don't be upset b/c you allowed a distant cousin who's lost battle after battle for the last 22 yrs to hijack 'your project' for their own goals (while in the process bringing far larger and unfriendly eyes to your project). Learn from the mistakes of the past and don't be the mule used to transport the agendas of others... Many others were tricked into that larger 'tent' theory only to be discarded after they were effectively used as 'cannon fodder'. The Khaatumo folks, as well as some of your uncles from the Siyad Barre days, can tell you the folly of that 'scam' and where it leads.... Friendly advice...
  19. By the way, I see Xiin (aka Jacpher aka whatever other scripts he uses) has been busy editing all the posts detailing his 'nervous breakdown' the previous day(Tuesday to be exact). Cover up the tracks....
  20. Maxaa Kismaayo looga hadlayaa uun ba ragga qaarkood ka soo hadhay... Well, it's an interesting topic of the period. It's one of several issues that will determine the near-term trajectory of this project called the reinstutition of Somalia. Many interests are involved, both Somali and non-Somali, and are busy jockeying for position on the carcass of what used to be Somalia(whether it can be brought back to life is still to be determined). Now the problem some of our brothers have with the 'Northern' contingent is: 'Why are you uncloaking our grand plans to grab dominant political power in the latest iteration of creating a central gov't for Somalia?' The worry is that this 'uncloaking' serves to awaken certain dormant powers/constituencies which might not be aware of the political game being played at their expense. Taken in that light, it is an interesting complaint, indeed.....
  21. Oodweyne, Isn't it humorous how some have abandoned their dream of Siilaanyo as the saviour of Somaliweyn? All dreams come in for a landing. Hopefully it's not a hard landing...
  22. Similar sentiments as these hecklers were voiced to the American gov't when SL captured Las Anod. The U.S. gov't laughs at these accusations as shown by the excerpt below. The only thing these wild accusations of a phantom genocide and mass dislocation of a civilian population accomplish is to further delegitimize those making them. Below is an excerpt of an official transcript between the U.S. gov't and similar anti-SL voices. The Ambassador Yates referenced below was the current Special U.S. Representative to Somalia at the time. My anti-SL friends: Learn to argue with facts, not wishes.... Friendly advice...... ______________________________________ Q [horufadhi]: Dear Ambassador John Yates, I want to thank you and those who created this medium that gives us the opportunity to share our concerns and ask you some personal as well as policy related question and answers. I am from the Sool Sanaag and Cayn Region of northeastern Somalia. Since the invation of our regional capital in Las Anod on October 15 2007 by the so called somaliland militia, more than 100,000 of my fellow tribesmen have been driven from their homes in Las Anod and are currently refugees in open air camps not far from their homes. I am well aware of what the U.S. policy is towards this so called somaliland republic and therefore will not waste your time on that. What I cant understand is, why is the U.S. continually ignoring this humanitarian crisis facing my fellow tribesmen? The USAID has various undertaking with Somaliland, why are both the State Dept. and AID have not shown any leadership and have been publicl silent in stopping this ethnic cleansing? In your opinion, is being silent and not stopping this ethnic cleansing while at the sametime increasing the funding for the aggressors the new U.S. vision of peace and security for this helpless region? Yours Truly, Mohamed Ismail A [Ambassador John Yates]: Thanks for your question, and we’re pleased you’ve joined us today. I have to point out first that your characterization of the situation as “ethnic cleansing” sounds far-fetched given that clans and sub-clans seem to be shifting alliances often. But the crux of your question is U.S. response to the violence in and around Los Anod. We have not ignored this conflict. We have been engaged with both sides in encouraging a mutually acceptable resolution. USAID has been active in that region through their partner organizations. We have undertaken diplomatic efforts to alleviate the situation, and we will continue to do so. This is an unfortunate situation in already-volatile country; we need to see an end to all military action by both sides and resolve the problem peacefully.
