lol: defeated Courts want to hold talks with Ethiopia
Jacaylbaro replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
a settlement between the tfg and opposition have been a big problem last time when the ICU were there ,,,, i can't see why isn't a problem now ,, coz they won ?? As for the Habashis, they'll still bring the same conditions and accepting them have the same impacts it would have when they were ruling Mogadishu ...... should they feel defeated, then then will agree with the Habashis. One should follow Osama's footsteps if they want to do any Jihad or deal with the gaalo. -

Mogadishu 04, August.07 ( Sh.M.Network)- The chairman of the routed Union of Islamic Courts, Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed, in Asmara, Eritrea, denied that there were ongoing negotiations between his Islamic group and the Ethiopian government. Speaking to Shabelle by phone from Asmara, Ahmed pointed out that a dialog could be a solution to the political deadlocks, "but there were never talks between us and Ethiopia because our plan is clear. We need Ethiopia out of our country," he said. His remarks come as Asharqalawsat, the Arabic online newspaper based in London reported Saturday that it quoted an Islamist leader, saying the Ethiopia has been engaged in political dialog with the leaders of the Courts. The leader spoke on the condition of anonymity, the paper said. The paper reported that no results have yet to come out from the secret talks. The Islamist leader confirmed that Ethiopia and Somalia's Islamists were negotiating, but he did not say if the talks have been done through telephone or meeting. He said the talks focused on issues relating to the presence of Ethiopian forces in Somalia, indicating that solution may emerge only if the thousands of Ethiopian troops in strife-ridden country were pulled out. He pointed that number of African and Arab states were mediating the Islamist-Ethiopian talks, refusing to mention the names of the countries involved in the arbitration. Sheik Ahmed said there were peace efforts conducted by the Arab League to resolve Somalia's crises. "The talks between the Islamic Courts leaders that are outside the country are in progress," he said. A massive Ethiopian military offensive defeated the Islamic Courts Union in December last year after the Courts were dominating a swathe of southern regions of the country, including the capital, Mogadishu, for six months.

Mogadishu 04, August.07 ( Sh.M.Network)- Lawmakers of Somalia's interim parliament have voted for the dismissal of Hussein Mohammed Aided, an MP and member of the opposition group, making up more than 30 lawmakers, including former speaker, Sharif Hassan, in Asmara, Eritrea. Sheik Aden Madobe, the parliament speaker, announced that Aided was sacked after he could not report to the parliament to execute his duties for more than four months. His motion was supported by the majority of the MPs. "I am telling the elders from the clan of Hussein Mohammed Farah Aided to appoint another candidate who will replace him," said Mr. Madobw after the motion was approved. On August 1, legislators were deadlocked over whether to vote for enabling the parliament to have the capacity to know more about the decisions made by the Western-backed transitional government. Asha Abdalla, a lawmaker, lashed out at Prime Minister, Ali Mohammed Gedi, stating that his government was illegitimate and that its mandate expired already. She called on the president to come forward before the parliament and take part in resolving the deadlock within the legislative body. "It is legal that the government should ask for confident votes from the parliament for every single judgment it is making, and it is our federal charter," she said in an interview with Shabelle. Nonetheless, Salad Ali Jelle, Somalia's deputy defense minister and lawmaker, opposed the notion, indicating that it was not the time for the parliament argue about such a motion. "My bureau has done a great job for this country. I do not anticipate that the parliament should debate whether it must ask to keep abreast of my decisions, but I rather expect compliments from the transitional parliament," he said while addressing the legislators. Since the ouster of former dictator, Siad Barre, Somalia has had no effective government.

SIPPING cappuccino in certain cafés in Eritrea's Art Deco-studded capital, Asmara, you are more than likely to find yourself sitting next to a rebel. He may hail from Sudan's east or from the embattled Darfur region, from Somalia, Ethiopia or several other places. Eritrea is not only a welcoming host; it has been accused of giving rebels arms. This has annoyed its neighbours as well as the West. Yet Eritrea's reclusive, authoritarian government is less isolated than it might have been. Eritrea was once something of a Western pin-up boy in the new world order. It emerged from its independence struggle against Ethiopia in 1993 with strong international support and lots of political capital. President Issaias Afwerki was named a “renaissance African leader” by President Bill Clinton. But, 14 years after independence, the West now sees Eritrea more as a rogue nation. It has always given refuge to dissident groups; its government says it supports only peaceful opposition. Western diplomats, however, eye Eritrea's role in the region more warily, seeing it increasingly as a destabilising force. For instance, it helped arm the Islamist militias that took over Somalia last year and were then crushed by Eritrea's arch-enemy, Ethiopia. A UN report last week accused Eritrea of sending “massive” amounts of arms to a jihadist militia in Somalia. Eritrea's primary aim in Somalia is to strain Ethiopia's army; its long-running border dispute with Ethiopia still festers and could break into war again at any time. Two months ago the European Union said it would engage with Eritrea to solve conflicts in the Horn, but a number of Western governments are becoming more hostile towards it. Eritrea has got used to surviving without Western support. Eritreans say that every time it has mattered, the West has let them down. They are particularly frustrated by the West's inability to make Ethiopia accept the verdict of international arbiters over the border dispute, which led to at least 70,000 deaths in a war from 1998-2000. Instead, Eritrea's government has been cultivating ties with such countries as Sudan, Libya, China and a handful in the Middle East. Some are old allies who helped Eritrea in its war of independence; now they prop up a dismal economy—and give diplomatic help. “The deepening of diplomatic relations in an easterly direction has given Eritrea breathing room,” says a Western diplomat. “And it's been very cleverly done.” here
