An obese Saudi man weighing more than 400 kilogrammes (880 pounds) needed a dozen men to help transport him to hospital, the daily Okaz reported Friday. RIYADH (AFP) - An obese Saudi man weighing more than 400 kilogrammes (880 pounds) needed a dozen men to help transport him to hospital, the daily Okaz reported Friday. The age of the sick man, identified only by his initials A.S., was not given. It took the coordination of the Red Crescent Society and the Civil Defence to take him to hospital in the Red Sea port city of Jeddah. The hospital also had to find a bed that could support his weight, according to Okaz which also published a photograph of the patient. The man had previously had surgery to make him drop from his former weight of 230 kilos to 130 kilos, but then his condition worsened as his weight soared again, the newspaper cited a hospital official a saying. Saudi Arabia has an estimated population of 22 million, including more than six million foreigners, and "has more than three million obese people," said Dr. Walid Boukhari, head of surgery at a Jeddah hospital. The kingdom spends more than three billion dollars annually in health expenses on obesity-linked diseases, the daily al-Watan reported in February. Diseases related to obesity include arthritis and asthma and more serious illnesses such as cancer of the breast and colon and heart attacks. AFP

Horn Afrique, The fact is that the world is becoming more aware about Somaliland each day. Say writers, correspondences, artists, politicians, businessmen, etc. That is what is making you jelous and cry a rivier whenever you come accross one of those articles and whenever the Somaliland name is mentioned. You cannot maintain your own region in Kismaayo niyow let alone the Somaliweyn illusion.

Can a Mixed Islamist-Secularist Be Successful ?
Jacaylbaro replied to Jacaylbaro's topic in Politics
"Secularists" and "Islamists" probably singing Soomaaliyeey Toosoo in today's conclusion of shirka. Well, that is the beginning of the problem, it is where the confusion starts from. As long as you admitted there are secularists and Islamists in the conference then we can discuss this issue further. As i said before, to Libarate Somalia (or to sing soomaaliyeey toosoo) is an objective but mixing what cannot be mixed is the starting of the failure. Now, Al-Shabaab are out of the window and they are singing their own song somewhere in Somalia and outside. Others like Abubakar Cadaan are singing deals with the tfg and their co. Here in Asmara we have all those who have different ideologies and backgrounds. I'm not even surprised if the CIA or FBI are also involved. What kind of war can Secularists and Islamists share ?? What kind of government can secularists and Islamists build ? What kind of political ties will they have with the rest of the world ?? -
Somaliland dream to halt as Riyaale meet Somali President in Adis

What can be learned from the struggles in Somalia and Somaliland to help prevent the collapse of independent states and cultural groups when confronted by a series of today’s complex challenges, ranging from militarism, dictatorship and the politicization of diverse ethnic/clan groups? Why and how did the Siyad military dictatorship survive for over two decades? What makes a society with a relatively shared culture break into two entities, one moving towards self-government by its citizens and the other choosing authoritarian rule? In this book of essays, Dr. Hussein Adam explores questions like these as he analyzes the Somali crisis and contrasts the political cultures of Somalia and Somaliland. In the process, Dr. Adam reveals some of the underlying complexities that can result in the collapse or sustained development of a society. He explores how indigenous political structures foster local initiatives in peace building and democratic governance. Beginning with the inner workings of the Siyad dictatorship and its militarism, Dr. Adam then examines the causes, costs and dynamics of Somali civil wars and the emerging dominance of warlords and then compares the intervention in 1992-1995 by the United States and the United Nations in Somalia, with peace building in Somaliland. He documents the historical points at which politics and politicized Somali Islam intersected. He goes on to reveal the divergence of political practices that have blocked dialogue between Somalia and Somaliland. Dr. Adam offers a participant observer perspective. ABOUT THE AUTHOR HUSSEIN M. ADAM studied at Princeton University, Makerere University College and Harvard University. He has taught at Brandeis University, and at the Somali National University. Currently he is an Associate Professor in Political Science at the College of the Holy Cross. He has published 31 articles and chapters in scholarly books. He has also co-edited and published four volumes in Somali Studies: Mending Rips in the Sky, War Destroys: Peace Nurtures, Removing Barricades from Somalia, and The Proceedings of the First Congress of Somali Studies. He is the founding President of the Somali Studies International Association (SSIA), which is hosting its 10th Congress and 30th Anniversary in 2007/2008. During 1985-1986, he served as one of two UN Consultants who prepared the Organization Structure and the Plan of Action for the newly established sub-regional organization: the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD). I know they are collection of many groups with different backgrounds and history. As long as they chose Sh. Sharif to be the chairman then the ICU is the head at least for the moment. some of them like H Aydeed is the one who brought the amxaaros in the country and now pretending to be the one liberating Somalia.
-
Now you are confusing her more .........
-
Headache .............. I'll start the Afur with my Tea
-
My point is the ICU enjoyed the majority of the support from Somalis all over the world. This made them successful in cleaning Mogadishu from the warlords and creating somekind of peace in those area they controlled. The tfg doesn't have that support and thus they needed an external power to help them defeat the ICU ...............

I'm just wondering about those who recently gathered in Asmara, Eritrea. To libarate Somalia is a principle. To fight against Ethiopia is a principle. To Unite Somalia is a principle. To create a government is a principle. But there is only one question ? HOW PEOPLE CAN BE REALLY SUCCESSFUL TO ACHIEVE THIS ? Look at Asmara conference now, There are extreme Islamista like Sh. Aweys, there are Moderate (less extreme) Islamists like Sh. Sharif, there are extreme Secularists like H Aiydeed, there are less extreme secularists like Sharif (aka parliament speaker). In general we can say they are mix of Islamists and Secularists. To libarate a country or people means you have a clear goals and a agreed ideology to start with. It seems the war will start among this group even before they start fighting against xabashis and their alikes. Al-Shabab boycotted the meeting long time ago so they are not part of it. Sh. Aways and H Aydeed have different ideologies that can never meet. Others have other solutions that might be either based on Islam or Secularism. I don't think this new coallation will not be successful unless ay dhinac isu raacaan and bring something clear on the table. ILAAHAY SIDII KHAYR LEH HA KA DHIGO

Then why the tfg needed to bring ethios troops with tanks and bombers from the US ?
