  5. Islam is a religion of unity. Believers are united in all acts of worship, regardless of difference in gender, colour, nationality or social status. We fasted together, and we are about to feast together. To realise that communal feast, it is necessary to help the poor and the destitute. Hence the obligatory alms imposed not only on rich and adults, but on relatively poor and minors accomplish this objective. All living Muslims before sunset of last day of Ramadan, are duty bound to pay Zakatul Fitr. No other religion or any political system prepares its subjects for life long charity at birth. Although it is the parents that pay on behalf of minors, we have to teach and involve our children in exercising this duty. I remember back home, during my childhood that each one of us used to be given a portion of rice (SAAC) to give out. It is practically easy and effective way to prepare children for their spiritual responsibility. I hope this tradition is well maintained at home and abroad. Those of us who pay Zakat Al- Fitr in cash, can adopt this practice easily by handing the prescribed amount of money due, to each child, and instructing them to put into family collection, from which we can send either to Zakat funds collected in Mosques or sent to poor relatives back home. Prophet (Sallallaho alaihe wassalam) said in a Hadith: “A person who attributes anything to me, which I have not said, is making his abode in the Hill.” With that warning, I always leave interpretation and explanation of Islamic concepts and principles to our scholars who are professionally qualified to simplify every complex issue to our benefit. That is evident in the following article which comprehensively elucidates everything we need to know about Zakatul Fitr. The article is posted from www.islamonline.net in its authenticity and entirety without any change in form and shape. May Allah accept our fasting and make us among those he emancipated from Hell. 9. Hargiesa (QARAN)-President Rayale's approach toward securing Somaliland's eastern borders has been uneven. There were times when Somaliland was following a steady but cautious policy. There were other times when Somaliland's armed forces were sent on some rash and inexplicable adventures that ended up in disaster, chief among which were the Las Anod and Dahar fiascos. After a long period of confusion when it was not clear what Somaliland's policy was, it seems that President Rayale has finally put together a formula for success in the east. Actually, this new policy is the old abandoned policy of caution and steady engagement which was resurrected and applied, this time, with considerable skill. Its main ingredients are military preparedness and the cultivation of links with the local population, a combination that was decisive in Somaliland's routing of ******teenya's (Puntland) militias in Las Anod. The preparedness of Somaliland's armed forces showed not only in their performance in the battlefield, but also in their coherent and regular media updates. In this regard, both the Minister of defense Mr. Abdillahi Ali Ibrahim, and commander Ibrahim Aidid have impressed many Somalilanders with their professionalism and competence. No doubt Somaliland has scored a major victory, and clearly has an edge, as pointed out by foreign observers, such as the Economist. But based on previous experience things could change quickly, therefore, Somaliland should not take anything for granted. A cautious and steady policy of military preparedness and establishing links with the local communities is the way to go. Congratulations to President Rayale and Somaliland's armed forces for a job well done. Source: Somaliland Times
