  2. SaLLaM CaLLyKuM Signs of weak Iman and how to increase it A very nice article contributed by brother AbuBanan. Signs of weak Faith: Committing sins and not feeling any guilt. Having a hard heart and no desire to read the Quran. Feeling too lazy to do good deeds, e.g. being late for salat Neglecting the Sunnah. Having mood swings, for instance being upset about petty things and bothered and irritated most of the time. Not feeling anything when hearing verses from the Quran, for example when Allah warns us of punishments and His promise of glad tidings. Finding difficulty in remembering Allah and making dhikr. Not feeling bad when things are done against the Shariah. Desiring status and wealth. Being mean and miserly, i.e. not wanting to part with wealth. Ordering others to do good deeds when not practising them ourselves. Feeling pleased when things are not progressing for others. Being concerned with whether something is haram or halal only; and not avoiding makroo (not recommended) things. Making fun of people who do simple good deeds, like cleaning the mosque. Not feeling concerned about the situation of Muslims. Not feeling the responsibility to do something to promote Islam. Liking to argue just for the sake of arguing without any proof. Becoming engrossed and very involved with dunya, worldly things, i.e. feeling bad only when losing something in terms of material wealth. Becoming engrossed and obsessive about ourselves. Okay, how to increase our faith then ? Recite and ponder on the meanings of the Quran. Tranquility then descends and our hearts become soft. To get optimum benefit, remind yourself that Allah is speaking to you. People are described in different categories in the Quran; think of which one you find yourself in. Realize the greatness of Allah. Everything is under His control. There are signs in everything we see that points us to His greatness. Everything happens according to His permission. Allah keeps track and looks after everything, even a black ant on a black rock on a black moonless night. Make an effort to gain knowledge, for at least the basic things in daily life e.g. how to make wudu properly. Know the meanings behind Allah's names and attributes. People who have taqwa are those who have knowledge. Attend gatherings where Allah is remembered. In such gatherings we are surrounded by angels. We have to increase our good deeds. One good deed leads to another good deed. Allah will make the way easy for someone who gives charity and also make it easy for him or her to do good deeds. Good deeds must be done continuously, not in spurts. We must fear the miserable end to our lives; the remembrance of death is the destroyer of pleasures. Remember the different levels of akhirah, for instance when we are put in our graves, when we are judged, whether we will be in paradise or hell. Make dua, realize that we need Allah. Be humble. Don't covet material things in this life. Our love for Subhana Wa Ta'Ala must be shown in actions. We must hope Allah will accept our prayers, and be in constant fear that we do wrong. At night before going to sleep, we must think about what good we did during that day. Realize the effects of sins and disobedience- one's faith is increased with good deeds and our faith is decreased by bad deeds. Everything that happens is because Allah wanted it. When calamity befalls us- it is also from Allah. It is a direct result of our disobedience to Allah. Contributed by: Abu Banan Fi AmaaN ALLAH OuT
  3. SaLLaM CaLLyKuM Woman was made from the rib of man, She was not created from his head to top him, Nor form his feet to be stepped upon, She was made from his side to be close to him, From beneath his arm to be protected by him, Near his heart to be loved by him. Fi AmaaN ALLAH OuT
  4. Oh and by the way.. (((SELF-EXAMINATION IS ))) The examination of the soul occurs at three instances: before the action, during the action, and after the action. Peace OuT
  5. Innal-Hamdalillah was-Salaatu was-Salaam `alaa Rasoolillah as-Salaamu `alaykum wa-RaHmatullahi wa-Barakatuhu Account yourselves before you are taken to account!" - `Umar ibn al-Khattaab [Az-Zuhd of Ibn-ul-Mubaarak] "On that day every person will be confronted with all the good he has done, and all the evil he has done, he will wish that there were a great distance between him and his evil deeds. And Allah warns you against Himself (His Punishment) and Allaah is full of Kindnessto the (His) slaves" [soorat Aale-'Imraan 3:30]. Ibn Katheer explain the aforementioned aayah: "On the Day of Judgment all his good and evil deeds will confront him, as Allaah, the Most High, says, 'On that Day man will be informed of what he sent forward (of his evil or good deeds), and what he left behind (of his good or evil traditions)' " [Tafseer Ibn Katheer] 1/338]. One may feel that after doing an action he will never see it again. Especially, if it is an internal or hidden deed, like ar-riyaa, jealousy, hatred for the believers, desiring the evil, etc. "Knows he not that when the contents of the graves are brought out and poured forth. And that which is in the breast shall be made known" [soorat Al-'Adiyaat 100:9,10]. "That which was hidden in themselves will be made apparent" [Tafseer Ibn Katheer 4/545]such that, "whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom, shall see it. And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom, shall see it" [soorat Az-Zalzalah 99:7,8]. A person's day is filled with actions. Actions are done and forgotten about. Forget them we may, but it is them we will have to answer about on that Day. Allaah says, "That He may ask the truthful about their truth" [soorat Al-Ahzaab 33:8]. If Allaah, the Most High, will question and account the truthful then how can the rest of mankind be exempt? Righteous actions are extremely valuable, for whosoever's good deeds are more than his evil deeds and tips the scale by an atom's weight will enter into Jannah by Allaah's Mercy. Therefore, a believer must focus on his actions, and focusing of ones actions entails the following: (((PREPARATION))) The slave of Allaah needs to prepare and make his soul ready for the day ahead. After Salaatul-Fajar he should make himself realize that the day has many hours. He should hope to fill every hour with that which will benefit his soul. He should hope to fill every hour with that which will benefit his soul. He should try to grasp on to the treasures of righteousness that the day holds for him. He should hope to keep every hour free from that which will harm his soul. He should try to avoid the evil that the day has in store for him. So, he should advise his soul to be a soul that strives to obey Allaah, keeps away from laziness, does not waste time, and takes a maximum benefit of the day. After advising his soul he should focus on: (((Before the Action ))) The slave of Allaah must check his intentions before the action; is it only for Allaah or is it for something or someone else ? If it is for other than Allaah then he must know that it is something evil. It then necessitates that he busy himself in purifying his intention and making it only for Allaah, Al-Wahid. He must also make sure that the act of worship will be done in the manner performed by the messenger of Allaah as understood and implemented by the Sahaaba (his companions). (((During the Action))) The slave of Allaah must be aware of Shaytaan and his whispering during the action. He must check to make sure that his intentions are continuously wholly for Allaah. He must strive to perfect his actions as much as possible. (((After the Action))) "O you who believer! Fear Allaah and keep you duty to Him. And let every person look to what he has sent forth for the tomorrow, And fear Allaah. Verily, Allaah is All-Aware of what you do" [soorat Al-Hashr 59:18]. "And let every person look to what he has sent forth for the tomorrow", Ibn Katheer said it means, "You take yourselves into account before you are taken into account" [Tafseer Ibn Katheer 4/342]. Therefore, we are to "see what we have sent forth from the deeds for the Day of Judgment" [Nafhatul-`Abeer min Zubadatut-Tafseer p.1349]. As after Salaatul-Fajar the slaver of Allaah prepares himself for the day, then similarly the slave must take himself into account at the end of the day. Like a business man who accounts at the end of the day and checks whether it was profitable day or not. The slave of Allaah must question his soul and ask. Did I fulfill my obligations ? Did I make sure I had Ikhlaas (sincere and pure intentions only for Allaah) in all my actions or did I do actions for the show of people ? Did I benefit from this day or not ? And if he evaluates that he is in loss, then he should undergo: (((DISCIPLINE))) After taking oneself into account and realizing that one is in loss, one should discipline oneself by doing good deeds hoping that the good deeds will wipe out the evil deeds. This was the practice of the Sahaaba, as is narrated about `Umar ibn Al-Khattab that he left his orchard to pray Salaatul-'Asr. Upon reaching there, he found that the people had already prayed, thus missing the Jama'ah. As a result, he returned to his orchard and gave it away as charity to the needy [Mukhtasir Minhaaj-Al-Qaasideen p.379]. The ones who will benefit are those who take themselves into account before they are taken into account. For being taken into account in the Hereafter is not a light matter, the Messenger of Allaah said "Anybody whose account is questioned will be punished" [saheeh Al-Bukharee 8/#543]. So let every soul take itself into account and exert itself to improve its deficiencies and shortcomings for the matter is as `Alee ibn Abi Taalib said, "for today there is action but no accounts, and tomorrow there will be accounts, but no deeds to be done" [saheeh Al-Bukharee 8/chapter4]. Hasan Al-Basaree (a student of Ibn Mas'ood) said, "O Son of Adam! Surely, you will not acquire the reality of Imaan until you do not pick out the defects in people of which you have in yourself, and until you start to cure that defect from yourself, so you correct it. So when you have done that, you will not have corrected a defect except that you will find another defect that you did not correct. When you do that you will be specifically busy with yourself. And the most loved of the slaves of Allaah is the one who is like that. [sifatus-Safwah 3/234]. Ahmad bin Hanbal reported that Allah's Messenger (sallalahu walayhe wasalam) said, "If a slave remains in prostration from the day he is born till his death and remains obedient to Allah, still he will consider his worship insignificant on the Day of Judgement and will long to return to the world to do more righteous deeds." 7. Innal-Hamdalillah was-Salaatu was-Salaamu 'Alaa Rasoolillah as-Salaamu 'Alaikum wa-raHmatullah Oh My Fingers As usual it was raining outside The blessed water from Allah, falling far and wide I spent my time in my room on my computer As usual I e-mailed to my sister. Suddenly, there's pain on my fingers, Yikes! The pain won't stop, it just continues and strikes! I looked at my fingers, what did I see? WORMS crawling, eating, biting looking squirmy tearing away the flesh that I adore My fingers are pretty no more. Oh no! I quickly jumped from my seat The worms take my fingers for meat! I shook my arms, but the the worms ate away, Biting, tearing my flesh and determined to stay. "Allah! What did I do wrong? Why are the worms so strong?" Then an inner voice said to me "O Muslim, this is your tragedy. You wasted your fingers on deeds sinfully. Was it not you who sent the fake e-mail? You spread rumours and forwarded tall tales. Your fingers typed in insults towards our Muslim scholars. You hurt their feelings and harassed the others. You designed a web page to insult Islam. Your fitnah are worse than drinking rum! You even flirted with the opposite sex on cyberspace You even used seductive words and dirty phrases! Instead of having meaningful discussions You come in all ready for sensations. Have you forgotten when you die? Your fingers bear account and they can't lie. Your mouth will be shut but the fingers will reveal everything which you typed on the keyboard to kill. Your fingers keep no secret and speak for all to know Repent now! Stop typing insults for show!" I said "I promise! I promise! I'll stop it!" Then the rain stopped the room was lit. My ears drummed wildly, my thoughts full of fear. When I looked at my fingers, the worms disappear.... (If you belong to the above category, repent now. For our Lord Allah knows it all.) 8. Innal-Hamdalillah was-Salaatu was-Salaamu 'Alaa Rasoolillah as-Salaam 'Alaikum wa-raHmatullah Side by Side They lie on the table side by side The Holy Quran and the T.V. Guide. One is well worn and cherished with pride. Not the Quran, but the T.V. Guide. One is used daily to help folks decide. No, not the Quran, but the T.V. Guide. As the pages are turned, what shall they see. Oh, what does it matter, turn on the T.V. So they open the book in which they confide. No, not the Quran, but the T.V. Guide. The Word of Allah is seldom read. Maybe a verse before they fall into bed. Exhausted and sleepy and tired as can be. Not from reading the Quran, from watching T.V. So then back to the table side by side, Lie the Holy Quran and the T.V. Guide. No time for prayer, no time for the Word, The plan of Istiqama is seldom heard. But forgiveness of sin, so full and free, Is found in the Quran, not on T.V. Fi AmaaN ALLAH
  9. Innal-HamdaliLlah was-Salaatu was-Salaam 'Ala RasooliLlah as-Salaam ALaikum wa-raHmatullah "AHAD!" Why shed these tears of sorrow? Why shed these tears of grief? Ya nafsy how soon you forget, After trials come sweet relief Why turn you from Ar-Rahman? Why yearn for a listening friend? Ya nafsy, do you not remember, On ALLAH, you must depend? Read you not those stories, of the trials in days gone by, Of the Sahabi beloved by Allah, Who for Allah's cause did strive? Why loosen your hold upon him? Why fling away, His outstretched Hand? Ya nafsy, do you not remember, Bilal's sabr on the blazing sand? "Ahad! Ahad!" He cried, While his flesh did drip and burn. "Ahad! Ahad!" He cried, To Allah alone he turned. Forget you the firmness of Hamza, As the gleaming swords did fall? With Sabr he turned to Allah, as the qureish did slice and maul. Why drown in salty teardrops? How can you dare compare your pain? To that of Yasir and Summayah, As the lay tortured on the scorching plain? Forget you the charring of Khabbab, As on burning coals he lay? Ya nafsy how meager your suffering, Wherefore do you lose your way? Why befriend you not Al-Wali? Why not in Salat to Him complain? Like Job who only to Allah, Turned in all his grief and pain? Forget you those trials in this life, Cleanse your heart and make it clean? Ya nafsy, why all this sadness? Do you not wish your heart to gleam? Be patient in all your hardships, Allah hears your cries of woe. So trust Him and His hikma, For He knows best and you don't know. So tighten your hold upon him, Lest He withdraw His outstretched Hand! And remember the example of Bilal, As he lay anchored on the blazing sand. "Ahad! Ahad!" he cried, While his flesh did drip and burn. "Ahad! Ahad!" he cried, To Allah alone he turned. Fi AmaaN ALLAH OuT
