  1. Any of you watch the Ivory Coast-Cameroon match? What a game it was! Pity we can't have both teams in the world cup Time has come for FIFA to allocate more places for African teams (but this will probably not be discussed until after the WC in SA 2010). Soma Inc, The European leagues just got started...there will be a lot more traffic in a few weeks time. Rafa, What is this anti-Arsenal sentiment sxb? lol. L'pool won the first major trophy in a long time and you are already scorning Arsenal? Arsenal fans have nothing to be ashamed of, they have the smallest budget of the four big teams but still manage to stay in contention. Just like Soma here; Chelsea has a very strong side that will win more trophies in the coming years, but you get to scorn (not a good thing though) others after you have established yourself as a major power-house and won many trophies. PS: How is life in the ME sxb?
  2. Baashi, Thanks sxb, it was an interesting article. What the author seems to be [rightfully] denouncing is androgyny which has been what many feminists have been vying for. Unfortunately, even Muslims aren't spared and some have fallen for this.
  3. NGONGE, You have a lot of opinions for someone who hasn't watched the whole show I did and it was a completely wasted hour and a half. I still do not know what message the host was trying to convey. He interviewed a Malaysian hairdresser who explained to the viewers her 'version' of Islam (not covering up in accordance with Islam except when praying), a Turkish model who [did bikini shoots etc. but] read verses of the Quran intermittently and was happy for the support she got from her agnostic father in pursuing her career and a number of Muslim, female human rights activists. The Malaysian activist group were even distributing bumper stickers to men which read something like One Wife, My Choice making it something to take pride in as opposed to polygamy. He interviewed and showed a guard at a mosque for more than ten minutes but only showed Anwar Ibrahim for a few seconds. Public service? More like disservice!
  4. The author is angry and very paranoid. I went to a Catholic school and lived in non-Muslim countries all my life. This has not affected those a similar position as long as the parents have seen to it that Islam is taught (in theory and practise) from an early stage. Muslims who live in Kuffar countries did not migrate for 'fun', a great majority escaped the tyranny perpetuated by fellow Muslims. How long shall we play victim? Surely, the kuffar has no mercy for Muslims (Allah SWT has pointed it out to us in the HOly Qur'an and said that they will never be satisfied until we abandon ou faith) but we can't keep blaming them for everything that has befallen us. We have abandoned our ways but we always blame the kuffar, the media etc., it must be way easier than taking responsibility.

I have been following it for quite a while, although it has been almost impossible to get any clear information the last couple of years due to the media blackout in the region. The western media in general does not report much from Chechnya but there are other alternative sources that do a great job. Kavkaz Center and their UK site which have been the main source for news from Chechnya seem to be down. The Russians and the west claim that it is Basayev's mouthpiece and maybe that could be the reason the site is down (I haven't been able to access it for some time).
  7. Unpeople are always unpeople, no matter where they reside. People just don't care about their plight! We see this everyday in the rest of the world and it is not suprising to see the same happen to the unpeople who happen to be citizens of the wealthiest nation.
  8. LOOOOL@ Raula, The names of the bars were just too hilarious even with my very very broken kikuyu! The alphabets were hilarious too... 11. K FOR KINO Do you know what kino means? Lol, I saw this word written on many places when I was in Germany and I didn't know what it meant, later learnt that it was 'movies theatre'.
  9. If a young man is not motivated enough to improve his mind, his financial position, his immediate family's, what friggin chance will a woman who married him for his character have of getting anywhere but backwards? Good character does not nullify irresponsibilty. sheherazade, I don't know how you misread my example of the Prophet SAWS and somehow ended up attributing backwardness to the picture I was trying to put up. This post was about Somali men who are "underarcheiving" in secular education as compared to their female counterparts. I just went out to show that a profession (pizza delivery in this instance) or secular education are not good criteria to use when in search of a husband (hence my example of the Prophet who was a perfect human being despite lacking the criteria mentionned). I know the next thing on your mind would be 'we are living in different times etc.' which also is true, but a higher education does in NO WAY guarantee a happy marriage, so why should it be a major criteria? PS: Good character does not nullify responsibility but enhances it. Fidel, Education is neither mutually exclusive with having a good character nor with being a good muslim. A person SHOULD have all three. Why is this simple topic being twisted to mean those with education lack character and deen. A person should (optimally) have all three but it isn't the end of the world if he lacks a higher education; but you made it seem that way in your post. Plumbers and gas engineers (I've heard) make as much money as doctors in the UK, so if a person has a good character, is pious, honest and respectable (with an income)... should they not be appreciated as much because they don't have a BSc that will (only) earn them a few grand amore a year? A BSc doesn't make a happier marriage, we should therefore be more concerned about the moral decadance than we are about the economical decline of Somali men abroad.
  10. xiinfaniin, The plan is to encircle east Jerusalem and strengthen the grip on some parts of the West Bank. By withdrawing from Gaza, Sharon is sacrificing a finger to save an arm. Protecting those settlers proved to be too costly for the Zionists.

Ecclesiasticus 22:3 says in full... 22:3. A son ill taught is the confusion of the father: and a foolish daughter shall be to his loss. ...or maybe I looked at the wrong version.
  13. Originally posted by SoMa_InC: It is true that Chelsea didn't play as everybody expected but what matters is the 3 points and I am glad that we have acheived that. Soma Inc, Sxb, Chelsea played EXACTLY as everyone expected; boring, tight five-man midfield and no sense of adventure. But they had better chances than Arsenal and could have scored more goals. Mourinho is not planning to change his boring ways, he has brought in Essien to take over from Gudjohnsen and they will keep playing with five in midfield and one man up top. Only two games have been played so far and Chelsea are playing exactly like last season and (as usual) winning with 1-0. With a budget like Chelsea's, they should be able to provide their supporters some sort of entertainment. The only entertainment their fans have been getting so far is 3 points, no flair, no offensive skills, not may goals scored etc. Chelsea is very difficult to beat, they win the games (and will win more trophies) but they are extremely boring to watch.
  14. The Prophet SAWS worked for the richest woman in Arabia; she was amazed by his honesty, humility and good general character so much that she got married to him. She later spent almost all her wealth in helping the Prophet spread the word of Islam and she also helped most of those who joined the ranks of Islam. She is one of the most honourable women to set foot on this earth. In today's world, a woman with a BSc earns a few thousand more (annually) than a man who delivers pizza. When we compare this tiny difference to the difference between the Al-Amin (the honest worker) and Khadija (RA), you will see that there is a huge difference but that wasn't a hinder. A woman should look at the character (of the man she wants to marry) and not how many days of the year he has spent sitting behind a school-desk.
  15. FARIID, The program exposed what the Muslim community in the UK have known fo a long time, that the MCB does not speak for the them. They (MCB) are trying to satisfy the whims of the govt and at the same time trying to speak for the Muslims. This sometimes leads to compromising of one's faith. When asked whether it was right (for the cleric from Saudi Arabia) to call Hindus idol-worshippers, Iqbal Sacranie, the secretary-general of the MCB started stammering and was very cautious/evasive in his answer. He started explaining away the differences in how "God" is viewed in different cultures. When it came to the issue of "suicide bombers" the only one who didn't look like a hypocrite was Azzam Tamimi. The MCB and other affiliate groups were pressured by the UK govt to denounce terrorism and were even forced to refer to the Palestianians resistance as "terrorism". This is the reason why most young Muslims feel alienated in this society...they see that the MCB and it's affiliates are apologists whose primary aim is to appease the govt and are often afraid to stand for what they believed in.
  16. I heard Chelsea have never beaten Arsenal in the Premiership...damn, this is their best chance ever. Now they even got Essien, much better than Lampard in my opinion. But Fabregas iyo Gilberto baanu ku siideeyninaa ciidanka Chelski. Gunners to win! Go Goooooners

  23. In life, people have different roles. One person (male in this case) can be many things at the same time; a father, a son, a husband, a brother, an uncle, a nephew, a friend etc. All these are roles will determine how you act in a particular setting. Towards friends you are friendly and relaxed, towards your children you are as a parent is, towards your parents you are a son etc. You subconsciously act differently depending on the particular setting and role you are playing at a particular time. These roles can clash at times, i.e. if you are sitting in the same room with your son/daughter (who you may be yelling at intermittently telling him/her not to do this or that), your mother (who is still playing her role as a mother and telling you what to do) and your wife (whom you adress with affectionate words but you are forced to become formal with her due to the presence of your mother). A setting like this brings together some of the different roles you play in your life (in one room) and may bring about a bit of confusion. You can be consistent when it comes to certain attributes (honesty, kindness, respect etc) but the different roles you play in life demands that you act differently.
  24. Every place has something special to offer. Mombasa was kewl... Old town - Mombasa Voi Lodge looks like some alien planet...the view is just breath-taking
