the rebels get their legitamcy from opposing foreign forces. ask anyone in mogadishu and they will tell you they hate amisom. amisom has killed alot of civilians. they need to be out of the country. then the rebels will have no excuses and then we will have country governed by somalis not by amisom. -
Mogadishu: Heavy mortar exchanges start in capital

someone get these amison troops out of our country. they are the cause of all these instability. -
i don't think america is the type of country that allows its companies to illegaly fish or dump toxic waste in our waters. The american central command have alot of pragmatism and see the situation of piracy as one born of injustice. It's european and asian companies that exploit somalia. Even china wants to get into the action. Right now i trust american more than europe and asia when it comes to somalia.

you're having a laugh aren't you? Have you seen the city of burco my homeland? You think a snapshot of uptown hargeysa is somehow going to prove that somaliland is world's greatest paradise on earth? My uncle was just talking to my mother yesterday. He said food prices are up, inflation is at all time high, there are no jobs or a decent standard of living. If it were not the money sent by the diaspora, somaliland will eript into chaos and hunger. Brother sometimes you need to see beyond clan lives and see what's good for the country as a whole. Right now our country is fragmented and without hope. If you back to burco some 30 years, no somali would believe you if you told them that we would be a nation of refugees today. We all as somalis prospered and lived at a high standard of living when we had a country and a nation. This is a simple fact. Try to have a bit of self introspection brother. We somalis have all lost after 1991. Although some more than others

i think even though america used the element of force yesterday, they do recognise the root causes of piracy. There was that report on senate committe on somali piracy. So there is hope. Strength the government in somalia. Help them build security personnel and train somali coast guards to not only protect somali waters from foreigners but stop piracy too. I sincerely hope america does help get somalia back on its feet. Remember guys sometimes america does see things differently than the rest of the world

US forces rescue captive from Pirates in bloody showdown.
Somali Pirate replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
I don't see the thing as being funny. Just another sad tragic case in a long lists of cases in somalia's history. A nation where people are flocking to be pirates because there is nothing to live for. It's not funny mate. It's sad -

^ i doubt you understand how it feels when you have no food, no water and live in abject misery. And the only source of income is being ransacked by european and asian fishing vessels. No body wants to be a pirate. But when it's that or survival then it's simple choice to make. -

So you're from Butland? i guess you were asleep all these years when somaliland was kissing eithopian ***. letting our enemy who occupies somali lands use the port of BERBERA. why do you think our dear riyaale survived all these years? both somaliland and puntland have worked with eithopia. eithopia has played both provinces like fools. have you heard of the term divide and rule? the british coined that phrase. look it up. may be you will learn something today

hey, the greatest myth amongst my folk is that we were after somalinimo but got nothing in return. these people have short memories. they should ask themselves this very question. when did somaliland see it's highest era of progress? when we were a nation? or during the last 18 years?

ashkiro, the piracy issue is certainly a somali issue. but you cant deny the fact that it;s related to puntland region. it's pretty obvious that puntland gains alot from pirate money. that's just facts and in no way labels clans are the root cause.

^ apparently stating few obvious truths is negative. if that's what you consider as negative i would hate to think about what's worse. sometimes i don't know whether you even bother self contemplation. tell me something. when was somaliland's greatest progress achieved? you have 2 choices. when somalia was a single nation? or during the last 18 years? pick your choice.

the thing that pisses me off the most is seeing how my region is willing to bend over backwards for eithopia against their own kind in the south. My father AUN who fought in the oggaden war would have probably cry in anguish if he were alive today. I don't think he or the other brave somalis who fought in that war would ever imagined it would end up like this. was their sacrifice for nothing? pretty shameful if you ask me

dukey, the diaspora is quite useless. apart from sending money for their familes and building their own stuff they have no concept of building the nation. what the nation first needs a system of stable governance. we need a strong central government. we need a police we an army, navy and air force to protect out country and our resources. somalis need peace and stability first. lawn and order. then we can have micro development as somalis will be better able to develop the country. the country will also get foreign investment as a result. It all starts from stability of government and functioning state

Originally posted by Mintid Farayar: This will have a terrible ending for all Somalis of that region. There's no positive outcome from this. And Somalis will be further reviled by the world community. I gather from the writings that many posters haven't been anywhere near the Horn for a while. Life is miserable for Somalis even if you're the most honest, law-abiding individual when you travel to other people's lands. There's a certain pause in the conversation when you announce you're a Somali. If you hold a Western passport with all its protections, what about your mother, brothers, sisters, cousins, and other kin who don't? What happens when they fall sick and need advanced medical treatment in another country? One by one, visas to Somali nationals are being outlawed in the region. The particular American ship in question was carrying food aid for Somalis (ironically). How many children died because of the delay in food arrival due to piracy? Somehow those significant effects never get discussed in this Forum! I'm still waiting for the Puntland "Amiin" corner to propose some solutions on this thread instead of the reflexive my clan is better than your clan response. top post how low have we somalis have sunk? bereft of hope or oppertunity, poor people have resorted to piracy. the cause of some of these pirates is understandable as we have suffered years of plundering of our seas by foreigners. But it just shows how pathetic the ruling trash is when somalis have to resort to hijackings to tell the world their message. how can you expect the world to respect us when we can't even respect ourselves?

believe what you will. could'nt care less. i am not your brain washed tribal dumbo who thinks the south is my enemy. siad barre is gone. but somalia is still in ruins. siyad barre was a patriot. at the height of the power he started the war to free our lands from eithopia. that moment, everyone was behind siyad barre. funny when the war was finished every one started to turn against him. what a shame. the biggest path of self destruction we had was when our own somalis started to fight the country from eithopia of all places because of jahil qabeel mentality. all those somalis who gave their lives to free oggaden was wasted when somalis started to fight the country with the help of eithopia. eithopia was looking to destroy somalia and lo and behold what a suprise. it found somalis willing to do it's bidding for it.
-
the chickens have come home to roost basically. the lawlessness in somalia has led to this. until we have a strong central government, that can rule the waters then this problem will continue. and more desperate poor somalis will join the cause for an easy buck. that's what happens when your sole livelihood is being plundered by european fishing vessels. shame really feel sorry for the captain honestly. he's caught in a situation of not his own making.

The same burco that has that awesome hotel called titanic. they serve good food there. That burco.the burco with names like october for it's streets. you still don't get it. you cannot progress when your land is in a limbo. in somaliland, there is no economy, jobs, investment, infrastructure, civil society, absolutely nothing that resembles a functioning state. is it any wonder seeing our people running to yemen and others parts of africa as refugees. you should understand that when you are a part of a recognised country then money is poured in right now somaliland is in a limbo. a limbo that is slowly killing what's left of it. funny you mentioned life under siad barre. somalis under siad baare were not refugees running around. somalis under siad baare had a better standard of living. somalis under siad barre had a viable passport. somalis under siad baare had embassies around the world. somalis under siad baare had functioning society. somalis under siad baare had the protection of a state. we had an army back then. in case you stll did'nt get it. we had a country back then. Burco under siad baare before the war started was much better than the shit hole it is now. after 18 years of self imposed limbo somaliland has nothing to show for other relative peace. johnny come lately?pfft. some people need to beaten back to patriotism.

100 years from now, how will our country look like

I don't want to blow my own trumpet but i have been supporting my step sister since my time in college. i also try my level best to educate somalis on the evils of clannism in every social gathering i am in whether it's a party, cafe etc. i know it's not much really but i really have so much passion for my country. i love somalia so much that i am willing to sacrifice almost anything to see it return to it's former glory -
as for the piracy, it's obvious what we need. a freakin central government with an air force and a navy. so that we can protect out waters and fish and not give reasons for the world navies to approach our lands so that their commercial vessels can continue to plunder and dump toxic waste in our waters

everytime i hear the word abdullahi yusuf i suddenly lose whatever good mood i have and fly of into a rage. i did'nt realise this ******* tried to attack somalia after the o war to overthrow siad barre. the coward should have been tried for treason long time ago

Originally posted by Meiji: Cabdi-case, The question is not been better off or not. The question is on what grounds do they espouse secessionism? The 1st picture shows a young boy been ''educated'' about the meaning of the monument. The momument is seemingly built to commemorate those who have perished during the bombing of the city by the dictatorial regime of Barre. On the monument there is a SOmaliland flag and someone who is defending the people who are bombed. From that monument I can deduct that a few opportunists want to abuse and mis-intrepret the awfull bombing of the cities and massacre of its inhabitants to fit in their selfish political program: secessionism. Hence, why I invite all those supporters of ''Somaliland'' to come in here and explain on what grounds they support secession. Is it because of the atrocities committed? Is it because of un-equal sharing and representation within Somalia? Is it because of what happened after 1991, namely the civil war and their desire to save themselves from the blooddy civil war? What are the reasons exactly? More, importantly what is the main ground on which one espouses secessionism? in burco people support seccessionism because they are selfish tribal fools. they think they are better than the rest of the country. i try to tell them the south are our brothers too and they should forget about the past and let by gones be by gones. ****** thing is somaliland was at it's best when it was somalia. right now it is just another god forsaken tulo with no money except remittance money from the west
