Xiin, the good Sheikh says if the Ethiopians withdraw in the 120 days as agreed, there's no reason to fight. If not, the fight continues. I'm not sure what you heard that made you so excited. The burden of implementing the bulk of this agreement, the Sheikh recognizes, is on the International Community and the UN in convincing the Ethiopians to withdraw. Now, the sponsors of this agreement (the West) have and continue to support Ethiopia. It may be this is their way of saving face and asking the Ethiopians to do the same. This agreement, as one caller to the show indicated, is no different than what Meles has been saying all along: that he would withdraw his troops when UN troops replace them. Except now they have put an unrealistic date on such withdrawal. The Sheikh is still good but he said little that was epiphany or euphoria inducing.

KULMIYE Condemns Eritrea's Aggression Against Djibouti
Castro replied to Jacaylbaro's topic in Politics
Any condemnation from "KULMIYE" of Ethiopia's aggression or documented war crimes in Somalia or Somali Galbeed? JB, this is a rhetorical question. Don't strain yourself trying to answer. -
Xiin, atheer, let me not wake the dead in this topic but if you have a couple of hours to kill, learn about the propaganda model and how mainstream media toe the line and help the vast majority of the public stay "informed". Tim Russert (and this topic), RIP.
-
^^^^ That's weak awoowe. It would certainly be guilt by association, as you claim, had Russert been a paper pusher at NBC. That he was not. He was their Washington Bureau Chief and among Time magazine's 100 most influential people of 2008. He was not just part of the establishment, he was the establishment. Similarly, when I run for governor of Minnesota, or become an Illinois Senator (soon to be US president ), then your claims may bear some weight. (Though I hardly contest my complicity.) Until then, your cries amount to little more than "I liked Jennings and Russert so they must be nice people and great journalists." That they're both dead may also be pulling at your kind heart.

Winter Soldiers are brave and we all bear witness (and responsibility) for the Iraq war as the obscenity of our generation.

Actually Sundays may be better now that one less career Corporate media man is on the air. That Russert was fair, balanced or even objective, as some of you are gushing here, is a contradiction in terms. Working, as he did, for 25 years at NBC which is owned by GE (a weapons maker and a war profiteer) negates any chance of being fair, balanced or objective. Russert had to play the script that his employer handed down to him as he simply could not become the Washington Bureau Chief for NBC News by being anti establishment. One has to be completely in with the program to advance so far. Otherwise, the system has enough filters built in to weed out the undesirables (read: real journalists) from the start. Bill Moyers' Buying the War and Normon Solomon's War Made Easy show a glimpse of what Russert truly represented. Russert is with his maker now and his death is sad to his family and those who admired him but I viewed him as a part of a military-industrial complex that has and continues to cause the very violent death of millions around the world.

U.S. accused of ignoring Ethiopia war crimes Satellite images purportedly show destroyed villages near Somalia At left is a satellite image taken Sept. 26, 2005, of the village of Labigah, Ethiopia. At right is an image taken Feb. 28, 2008, that an analysis by the American Association for the Advancement of Science says shows 40 structures removed or damaged. The analysis says the gray-white areas are possible evidence of burning. MSNBC News Services updated 2 hours, 9 minutes ago NAIROBI, Kenya - The United States and other Western governments are ignoring clear evidence of war crimes by Ethiopia, a key U.S. ally that launched a military crackdown on rebels last year, a human rights group said Thursday. Separately, a U.S.-based science group said satellite images confirm reports that villages have been destroyed in the country's ****** region. New York-based Human Rights Watch said America's relationship with Ethiopia means an alliance with a country repeatedly accused of violating human and political rights. In recent years, Ethiopia has become a U.S. partner in the fight against al-Qaida, which has been trying to sink roots in the Horn of Africa. "The United States is being willfully blind," said Georgette Gagnon, Africa director for Human Rights Watch. "Because Ethiopia is viewed as a key ally in the counterterrorism efforts, they are perhaps prepared to look the other way at abuses committed by Ethiopian soldiers." In a 130-page report, Human Rights Watch said Ethiopian troops have beaten and strangled civilians, staged public executions and burned villages during a year-old campaign against rebels in the ******, an arid stretch of land on the border with Somalia. The group said the allegations were based on more than 100 eyewitness accounts. A State Department spokesman, Gonzalo Gallegos, said officials have not seen the report. He declined to comment generally about the insurgency in the ******. The European Union said it has no comment to make while it is looking into the accusations. Ethiopia denies allegations Bereket Simon, special adviser to Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, denied all allegations in the report. "It's the same old fabrication," he said. But satellite images confirm reports that the Ethiopian military has burned towns and villages in ******, the American Association for the Advancement of Science reported on Thursday. Eight sites in the rocky, arid region, which borders Somalia, have clear signs of burning and other destruction, the AAAS Science and Human Rights Program said. MSNBC

^^^^ Great advice indeed. You know you're fat when you can't even look at yourself wearing a swimsuit. That's the ultimate test. I almost got arrested the last time I did that. Don't try this at home:

Did you get to chew any Mira? Visit a mafrish? If not, that was a bloody wasted trip dude. You haven't been to London till you've chewed a bag (3-4 marduufs) of Mira and got so paranoid you thought everyone walking behind you on the High Road in Wembley was following you. Just how did you fit in those airline seats at 314 lbs?

Ngonge, you don't want me around here, do you? Those seemed like the applause of death. Xiin, I have two misgivings on this agreement: 1) The talks were not all-inclusive. A major player (may be the second biggest player in the current conflict) was not a signatory to the agreement. 2) The dubious time lines and the wishful "sufficient" UN troops in 4 months are a near impossibility. This is not a knee-jerk rejection on my side but the devil is always in the details atheer.
-
Peace agreements are great but this one is on very the low end of the feasibility scale. Wanting peace and criticizing the shortcomings of this "agreement" are not mutually exclusive either. This, as Xiin would call it, is a lowborn agreement. Cheer, if you must, for this agreement but don't stick your head in the sand when it comes to its glaring inadequacies.

^^^^ This whole generation of Youtubers is getting on my last nerve. Not only do most of these kids have little of value to say, many are quite difficult to look at as well. I'd rather watch reruns of niiko videos than watch these nitwits.

Absolutely. This agreement deliberately ignores the obscenity of the very violent death of 10,000 and the displacement of 1,000,000 in just over a year. Yet, the biggest joke is the UN rushing in "Peackeepers", moreover from "Friendly States", and in sufficient numbers, all within 4 months! Spot on. The UN is about as useful and trustworthy as the geriatric dabodhilif Cabdilaahi Yuusuf.

Originally posted by Nephthys: Lets put aside our petty and selfish thinking for once, and please pray that this peace plan will be honoured by both sides. Read the text of the "agreement" (not plan) and tell me if you think it'll work atheer. Specially paragraph 7 points a and b. There are enough caveats in that paragraph alone to drive a lorry through. Looking in my dusty crystal ball, the Ethiopians will likely leave when they can no longer stay and that will happen when: a) they're financially unable to sustain the occupation (read: sugar daddy cuts off the assistance and diplomatic cover); or b) when they've lost enough suckers (I mean soldiers) to the resistance and the mood in Addis turns against this occupation; or c) when the Tigray have been overthrown. Politicians sign "peace" agreements and resistance fighters fight occupiers. The two go hand in hand all the time. Just ask any resistance movement worth its name how many agreements they've signed while planning their next battle before the ink dries on the paper. A victor will come out of this and I pray its us. P.S. Forgot to add that a house divided will never achieve peace. Somalis are at each others throats and Ethiopia, though a historic enemy, is today just a delighted beneficiary.

Dear All, Year 2007 was a disgrace to the international community and disastrous for Somalis. Dec 28th will mark the 1st anniversary of the Ethiopian occupation and a year long of suffering of innocent Somalis. A year ago by Dec 28 the, Ethiopian troops invaded Somalia under the banner of "war on terror" and continue to occupy the whole country under the barrel of a gun. Without the slightest protest, in the eyes of the international community, more than 10,000 innocent Somalis were killed, over one million displaced and countless others vanished. The occupying Ethiopian forces and its TFG militias continue to shell densely populated civilian areas in Mogadishu, shut down media houses and arrest traditional leaders who speak against the occupation and crimes against civilians. Eric Laroche, the head of United Nations humanitarian operations in Somalia is quoted as saying "if this were happening in Darfur, there would be a big fuss. But Somalia has been a forgotten emergency for years." ( Source ) Somali Cause, a newly formed umbrella organization comprised of 9 grass-root political organizations in North America and based in Washington DC, would like to invite you to a public forum on Somalia. The distinguished guests will address: America's foreign policy and its implications for human rights and world order Human right violations in Somalia & the international community's response US command center for Africa (AFRICOM); its objectives and long-term strategies and consequences. Conference speakers, who are well versed on the subject matter are, professor Peter Erlinder (keynote speaker)of William Mitchell College of law is the lead defense team at the UN International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda ( more info ), adjunct professor Hassan Mohamud ( Hassan Jamici ), professor Ismail Gorse of Anoka Community College and Sh. Abdisalan Adan of Darul Hijra Center among others. One could argue what happens in a distant place as Somalia doesn't concern or have any significance for us here. On the contrary, what is happening in Somalia has very significant implications for America and Americans. It has security and economical ramifications. Should you want to know of what your other fellow-American, Somali-American, (your neighbor, client, co-worker or friend) and their families here and back in the native land are going through, please come to this conference and ask questions. This is a must attend conference This conference will take place on Friday, Dec 28th @6pm at Zuhran Shrine Center on Park and 25th, Minneapolis , MN . Should you need directions call the center or 952.451.4848. Attached is the flyer for this conference. Please feel free to print and distribute if able to do so. Hope to see you there!

Yey is puppet of Meles. Meles is enemy of Afwerki. Therefore, Afwerki is our friend. Simple really.
