^ Atheer you give me too much credit. All I wanted to know is the word for guilt. Fortunately, I've learned many more in the process.
-
^ How did this change from the venting room to the boxing room? CW, you're forever my one and only deserving of atheer.
-
^ Atheer calm down. You're unreasonably hostile today.
-
^ A sleepwalking would-be rapist should realize his mistake the minute he wakes up. The victim must resist the attacker for this awakening to happen. Now, if the victim herself is a sleepwalker, then you've got a real problem.

^ I'd love to see this movie. I remember the first 'cultural film' I've seen and the logistics were a nightmare. It was on Betamax. Who knew? I'm surprised the censorship in Egypt would allow this. Sure there may not be any visual indecency in the film, but does showing intellectual indecency not an acknowledgement and an endorsement of the visual one?

So when all else fails, there is a negative correlation between penis size and IQ. Where does that leave Yoonis_Cadue? Somalis, I believe, are individually intelligent. I'm not sure what the reasons are. It could be a product of a nomadic lifestyle that requires constant problem solving. It could also be due to diet (canjeero and caano geel). Who knows. What is clear, however, is the IQ of Somalis is negatively correlated with their numbers. In other words, 10 Somalis in a room collectively have 1/10th the intelligence of any one of them. I've no research to back this up but mostly anecdotal evidence.

^ Me? Castro? I don't know where I stand. None of us could know. It will not be known for a while. Unlike Social Darwinism, natural selection works on a species level. Individuals within those species may (probably are) not that important. Personally, however, I hope to be among those whom nature selects to move forward.

^ I feel a lot of gabood for wasting this much bandwidth on such an illusive word. All the eed should fall on my shoulders. I will be in murugo for a long time to come. Enjoygareeya the rest of the thread.

^ Well said atheer. There's no coming back from that.

^ After hundreds of posts and 7 pages, we still have no conclusive meaning for guilt in Somali. So far we have: qiiro, murugo, tiiraanyo, and eed among other words. I'm afraid none of them are on the money. Where is Mutakalim when you need him? Oh yeah, he's over in another section raising hell.

^ Atheer calm down. You don't own one of these companies, do you? My vision of going home and sharing my wealth is to build something of use to the people. For example, a milk factory. Or a road. A clinic or part of a hospital. A library. A school (or part of it). Once I've done that, I can build my "dream" house without having to feel guilty. But to build these mansions so my rich brat kids could spend three months of the year there is unacceptable. They will live as others live when they go on vacation. Northener: Hargeisa may be, though I doubt it, the exception to the poverty and destitution that reign supreme in other areas. Even then, how does building a mansion among rubbish count as in investment into the homeland? It is pure vanity if you ask me. But to each his own. Just don't rub it in our faces.

Just say Walaal waad ku mahadsantahay Caawa aad iyo aad baan uu raaxaystay ku farxay companigaada. Did you say you're a linguist? May be you meant a Linguini.

^ My IQ is calculated by this formula: If you assume Yonois' IQ is Y, my IQ is C: C = (1.5*Y) + 137 So if Yoonis is at 0, which is not impossible given all the evidence we've seen so far, I'm at 137.

But you wouldn't know that because you would be a mere 6992st linguist in here. Atheer, you're either deficient in Somali or English or both. Now cut the crap and go to your room.

^ Well, the argument is, these houses are "stimulating" the local economies and employing people. Let's look at that for a moment. None of the material used in the buildings are manufactured in Somalia. None. Furthermore, the owners of the construction companies are themselves expatriates who will siphon the profits out of Somalia. So what do we end up with? Rich expats building mansions for other rich expats. Little or no economic benefits to the communities they're built in but further insult and injury to those who were basically "left behind" If you're contemplating building one of these abominations, I urge you to reconsider. If you must spend money, do it in a manner that would help the most number of people. If you're not into helping others, build your dream house right where you live. If you want to "keep up with the Jones'", do it here. There are no Jones' in Somalia. I'm out.

^ Afkaaga caano lagu qabay. Red Sea is peddling these castles in the air while many people don't have food to eat. Shame and careless disregard for the suffering of others describe those who live in such abominations. If you've got so much money it's burning a hole in your pocket, give some of it to the poor and build your mansion in suburban Minneapolis. Allah said don't walk on earth proud and arrogant and these mansions amidst misery are nothing but that. Does anyone build hospitals or schools in this mofo?

PM me for the log in credentials.

^ I just learned two new words. Thanks!

Originally posted by Rowda: I feel your pain, it sucks to be women sometimes doesn't it? Really? You should try being a man. It sucks all the time. A question to you all, do you go through this much pain because you like the end result or you feel others (segsi Faaraxs with a toothpick in their mouths) will like it? Personally, anything that hurts so bad is probably not worth going through just for looks. But what do I know.

^ Waligeed mucjiso may dhamaan? Originally posted by Callypso: Yoonis, I think you should be a linguist 97st and a historian 130th Shame is definitely ceeb. As in: waad na ceebeesay. Or, ceebtaada ilaahay ha asturo. P.S. You just had to throw in the original sin in there, didn't you?

^ Xiin, it's not so much the phrase bal adba but the word bal by itself. Look at these: Bal Xiinow, ila eeg arintan. Bal adaan kuu dhiibee, maxaan ka yeelna Mutakalim? Bal adba is waydii halkay lacagtii martay. See what I mean?

Originally posted by Ducaqabe: Somalis are not FEELING PEOPLE so those words are absent from our gene & language. Finally someone is talking about the original intent of the topic. Ducaqabe is befiting the man. So, if we don't have a word, we lack the emotion it describes? English word for Bal Adba. Bal Adba = Dude. As in: Dude, look at this rubbish they're pulling out here.
-
^ It also means longing. As in: Waxaan u qiiroonaya inaan Qaahira ku noqdo. Or Heblaayo ninkeegi ayaa London kaga maqanoo, qiiraa dishay. P.S. I bet you Qiiro came from Ghiira (Arabic for jealousy). Anyone know?
-
^ That's it. We have a winner. Baryahan oo dhan waan qiiroonayay. Thanks to all those who submitted answers.

^ Pun = hal kilmad oo laba micno leh. Bun = Roodhi. Ama dabo.
