Monkeys have attacked and taken over towns in somalia

^ I have a feeling you have more than just a passing interest in this. -
If there were no God, there would be no Atheists. [Or Agnostics for that matter] G. K. Chesterton (1874 - 1936)

^ I guess you're not of the USC clan then. I don't think they're psychotic killers at all. A small minority of them definitely are freedom fighters. They're fighting to free innocent women and children of their food, money and sometimes their lives. All clans have those, however, they're called common criminals. And who said the USC is synonymous with the H clan?

The 'anthropological' differences do exist. I've just never come across any convincing evidence of it. It's mostly anecdotal evidence and stereotypes that may be (probably are) rooted in bigotry. I'm also disappointed that Ms. Omaar would say such a thing. I guess no one is perfect.

^ Yeah. They figured no one else is. The Homo Erectus in that part of the world need real leaders and the monkeys are just filling that void. -
^ Do we build anything but hotels, mansions and 'universities' in this country? What happened to schools, factories, and hospitals? I know I sound like a broken record but this getting really annoying.

^ It is unlikely these animals would (or could) be any more cruel, incompetent or asinine than the so called leaders we have now. Vote for Muuse for president. -
^ I can't speak for anyone else but the thought (or sight) of it makes me as giddy as a little school girl (or boy). Otherwise, I'm an overwhelmingly responsible and mature adult.

Originally posted by haruun: This is what Cheney had to say. Vice President Dick Cheney: "Syriana" "the best film I’ve seen in years. Syriana’ is the first film I have ever seen that recognizes and celebrates the power of America’s greatest friend, oil.†Where did you get this Cheney quote saaxib? Could you provide us the source please? I found the references to Islam in Syriana to be at worst neutral and at best positive. The discrimination and subjugation foreign workers face in oil-rich Arab countries is neither fictional nor is it a reflection on Islam. Arabs were shown to be intelligent, educated, generous and aware of their wealth and how it's being squandered. Oil company executives were shown to be greedy, immoral and violent. The US military and CIA were shown to work for and obey big business interests. From where I stand, all the descriptions above are accurate. What's your beef saaxib? I would only add that Israel was not mentioned once in the movie. A suspicious omission, to say the least. It is difficult to imagine how this alphabet soup of CIA, Arab, oil, terrorism and occupation would not have Israel some where in it.

^ Not only did it survive, we're here because of it. Alhamdulillah.

^ Ok Mr. Ebert. I give the movie two thumbs way up. A must see by all accounts. The only shaky part is the terrorist recruitment plot. It seemed a bit contrived. Other than that, it's well worth the $8.50.

^ May he rest in peace. Richard Pryor made me laugh before I even understood what he was saying.

^ Who's fault is it, atheer, that we're not reminded or "made to feel guilty" over the mass death of Russians and the genocide in Rwanda? Is it those whose competence and fortitude will not let the memory of their people fade? Or is it those with enough languor and lethargy that can't (or won't) remember their dead and remind others of it?
-
^ If you had a Muharam on this date, atheer, it probably would have been a bit more romantic.

Originally posted by Yeniceri: Let's not forget their gross misuse of global pity. The commemorations of the Holocaust, in my view, are appropriate and have not reached the status of overkill or saturation, yet. They are, however, being used by some to overshadow attrocities and injustices being perpertrated by the state of Israel. For example, one would think an anti-semite is one who discriminates againts Semites, right? Not quite. An anti-semite today is one who speaks against the brutal occupation of Palestine by the Israelis. So the politicization of anti-semitism and the Holocaust is what disturbs me. It's not whether the Holocaust is fact or whether its commemorations are too much. Yeniceri is on to something when he made the statement above. I believe the global, and deserved, pity given to Jews (due to the Holocaust) is being spent unwisely. Not unlike the pity bestowed upon Americans following the 9/11 events. And we all know how the world feels about America now. My point is, if some Jews (within and without Israel) find it necessary to engage in questionable (possibly immoral and illegal) behavior by occupying the Palestinians, they cannot continually hold the moral high ground afforded to them by Hitler and his goons. The Holocaust stands, on its own, as a monument to the evil of which we're all capable. To bilk that monument for today's aggressions is equally evil and immoral, in my view. P.S. I'm off to watch Syriana and reflect on this.

^ The Jews did it. Atheer, SomaliaOnline is hardly the venue to name and shame an airline. While doing so as well, you may have broken one or more SOL rules. So, rethink your strategy on striking back at the airline. I'm sure you'll realize a skinny hangout is not the most bang for you buck. G'luck.

^ The actual name of the movie is 'Thaqafi Masri'. You can search that on Google.

And why do you think they've been so successful if everyone understands this to be propaganda?

^ What a delightful and valiant film it is. A must see for anyone who understands Arabic (unfortunately, it has no subtitles). Beyond the obvious theme, it addresses a plethora of social issues facing Muslim, African and Third World youth.

^ Instead of calling this boring, you should take your behind to the Boredom thread and write there. It's suffering from severe dehydration due to neglect.

^ He's messin around Saaxib. If he truly believed that, he wouldn't ridicule his beliefs by using Stanley Kubrik's (Full Metal Jacket) reference. He wanted to walk to the stage with a bang and it worked. It caught your attention, among others'.
