  1. ^ He did say the ban of hijab is "in some ways" worse than killing muslims. Personally, I'd like to hear what those ways are.

  3. Originally posted by Femme Fatale: So; the time when somali men develop six packs is when heavy somali women will lose their weight. Good weight to height proportion is a sign of good health. While we're constantly bombarded with very thin women and men who spend hours every day in the gym, what's more important is how many activities one engages in everyday. If all the exercise you get is looking for the remote control underneath the couch, it doesn't matter how fat or thin you are.

  5. ^ I'm running for office, atheer. These "fans" have all been promised either jobs (or internships), green cards (or landing status) or early parole into a half-way house when I get into office. Need an internship?
  6. ^ The last (and only) time I voted in a Canadian election was for Svend Robinson in Burnaby, BC a decade ago. The openly gay MP was heavily courting the immigrant community with promises of refugee case handling reform and some such vague campaign rhetoric. He ended up winning but I've not seen any of those "promises" come true. Later I found out the Canadian government reduced the acceptance rate of refugees by drastic numbers. Much like the US, there's a large community of white, anglo-saxon, protestant majority that controls the government. They're conservative, middle-class and higher, and don't care much about minorities. For the most part, federal elections are meaningless for minorities since their impact is minimal. It's best to focus on local and city elections for those are the ones that have real impact on our lives and they're also the ones minority communities can have a say in their outcome.
  7. ^ What's also annoying is how everything in town is closed today. Everyone is driving around looking for a place to buy stuff. The question is, if no one wants to have businesses close, why are they closed? On a brighter note, the temperature is 70° F here. Can anyone beat that? Not even Hotlanta can!
  8. ^ Amiin saaxib. My ego has become bloated beyond recognition. I'm humbled indeed. Baashi is 41. That makes LSK 40. There you have it. The mystery has been solved. SOL is great. There's nothing it like it out there. And inshaAllah it will be around when my own kids start their online socializing.
  9. Originally posted by uchi: "The truth is, I got to see a side of my mom I'd never seen before. I'm grateful for that." Ok. That's just gross. The images that statement evokes are just too much. Barf bag please. Excuse me. Speaking of barf, any one seen the movie "40 Year Old Virgin"? A most silly and simplistic Hollywood trash movie but with some humor. The concept is intriguing, however. While watching it, it occured to me it's not such a far-fetched one. Some people do go through life (by choice or otherwise) being celibate. It's like fasting for life, if you ask me. It could be the source for all kinds of deviations.
  10. Nice post. Did you write it? If not, credit the author(s) and provide a link to the source.

  12. ^ I said I was fairly sure, not certain. It was interesting to see how this thread progressed, however. As for the nomad you speak of in another thread, she wasn't accused of plagiarism but of lack of opinion. Said nomad copied and pasted (did give the author) but missed all the links on the original page, didn't ask a question, didn't say this is FYI, nothing. It was mental lethargy she was accused of, not plagiarism.
  13. ^ Your ideas and thoughts on science are as obtuse as those on history. You said, Proving and Seeing is beliefing. What irony.
  14. ^ In addition to those, I suspect, and this is my personal opinion, that non American or European scientists have an extra layer of credibility imposed on them. Whereas their counterparts in the west have instant credibility really. It may be race related too. Or it could all just be paranoia in my head. I too was hoping the first reports of bad science were untrue. Alas, we're not at that stage yet with stem cell research.
  15. What I am curious about is why there's near hysterical news coverage of this in the US and Europe. There's no excusing what the professor did. The cover up of the fabricated science is almost as bad as the fake science itself. No matter, this happens a lot as SB mentioned. The giant American pharmaceutical Merck is currently being sued for Vioxx, its billion dollar anti-inflammation drug. Apparently, the company decided to withhold, conveniently of course, damaging research that showed Vioxx has an unacceptable increase of risk of heart attacks. And though no one died of what professor Hwang was working on, yet, hundreds if not thousands have died prematurely of Vioxx. Again, the question is, beyond the embarassment, loss of funding and loss of prestigue for professor Hwang, does he even come close to clearly criminal acts such as those of Merck and others?
  16. There's no contradiction between what I said then and now. If it's not forgetfullness, it's plagiarism. You seem to imply, by your 'entertaining us' statement, that I am siding with JB against my principles. You're mistaken. I am giving JB the benefit of the doubt. If you're accusing me of anything else, spell it out and bring your evidence. Originally posted by Ducaqabe: I think this is definitely a case of tuug intaadan tuug oran buu tuug ku yiraahdaa. It's a good idea you explain who the tuug here is. If JB (who has ample original thoughts in his head) forgot to credit the paragraph, I'll accept that. If he didn't forget, he has, knowingly or not, committed plagiarism.
  17. ^ JB wouldn't plagiarize. I've read too many of his posts to know that. I'm also fairly sure this is a case of forgetfullness. What he referred to in the other thread was a clear pattern and not a single incident.
  18. Absolutely fantastic pictures. They took me home walaahi. Thanks Fyrkanten.

  20. Originally posted by Yeniceri: And keeping the memory "alive" (such as "the" Holocaust) has what objective and what result? Continuing to make generation after generation of Germans pay for crimes they never actually committed? Ninyahow you're too smart to confuse the why with the what. The Holocaust occuring is the what. The why of its memory being kept alive is another matter altogether. You can't deny the what just because you don't like the why. Make sense?
  21. Here's my caption for the second challenge: In the most Cubano accent Tony Montana could muster in Scarface: "Say hello to my little friends...."
  22. Indeed. The Hargeisa genocide is much closer to home (for some within their homes) for all of us. Yeniceri, saaxib, let it all out. There's no reason to feel resentful of the Jews for keeping the memory of their dead alive. It's our own fault for not keeping ours alive.
  23. ^ Apparently, the official (statistical) figure is 5,830,000. What makes you say it's short of this figure? And is disputing the actual figure equivalent to outright denial the whole thing occured? What is the difference between the two? Which is more grave? No pun intended there.
  24. Originally posted by Viking: These are not words of a crazy individual. The sane and truthful person is deemed a lunatic while the liar is given a pat on the back. We are indeed living in interesting times. Good Viking, welcome back. You're not saying the Holocaust didn't occur, are you?
