^ You ain't lyin. Originally posted by Modesty: However, the scholar said for us seeing the face of the woman arouses us. I'm sure different people have varying thresholds. Though the annullment of marriage is something that is too important to be set off by (lawful) nudity among married couples.

Originally posted by Khayr: I understand that that a possible intent to start this post could be to make fun of Muslim Ulama/Scholars and muslims in general. Atheer Khayr, when a learned scholar of Islam says something like marriages are annulled and voided with full nudity between a married couple, he or she is begging of mockery and rebuke. Please brother, don't make this into an us-and-them issue. We are all affected by what our, alleged, scholars say. I personally don't mind the recommendation. As Liibaan said, socks are a legitimate form of garment. Now, when one's marriage is on the line, I believe it's foolish ninyahow. Don't you? And please don't call me (and others) the village people. I'm not a singer, a christian or gay.

^ Saaxib waa waqti ciideede, ina kaladaa. I'm still abiding by our cease fire agreement from 2005. With repeated violations of this agreement on your part, I shall have no choice but to re-initiate full hostilities. Something I'd rather avoid at all cost. Mida kale saaxib dad badan ayaad dhinac kaga dhacaysaa markaad ugu yeedho kooxdaydii. Saaxib kooxo meeshan majiraan. Ciid wanaagsan ninyahow ee shaydanka iska naar.

Ok, so when I was done rolling on the floor from laughter, I realized the person who issued this is a former dean of the faculty of Sharia, or Islamic law and not just your run of the mill pseudo-scholar. Think about that for a moment. Even if he did face stiff rebuke and much ridicule from other scholars, the risk of creating confusion, spreading ignorance and possibly causing chaos is not insignificant. There is a greater risk to those who are unable to read and find out for themselves if such a decree is based on shaky grounds. Though this is a simple matter really, the implications of issuing such (irresponsible) decrees are immense.

To strip or not to strip? Egyptian clerics debate sex CAIRO: An Egyptian cleric's controversial fatwa claiming that nudity during sexual intercourse invalidates a marriage has uncovered a rift among Islamic scholars. According to the religious edict issued by Rashad Hassan Khalil, a former dean of the prestigious Al-Azhar University's faculty of Sharia (or Islamic law), "being completely naked during the act of coitus annuls the marriage." The religious decree sparked a hot debate on the private satellite network Dream's popular religious talk show and on the front page of Sunday's Al-Masri Al-Yawm, Egypt's leading independent daily newspaper. Soad Saleh, who heads the women's department of Al-Azhar's Islamic studies faculty, pleaded for "anything that can bring spouses closer to each other" and rejected the claim that nudity during intercourse could invalidate a union. During the live televised debate, Islamic scholar Abdel-Moti dismissed the fatwa, saying: "Nothing is prohibited during marital sex, except of course sodomy." For his part, Al-Azhar's fatwa committee chairman Abdullah Megawar argued that married couples could see each other naked but they should not look at each other's genitalia and suggested that they cover up with a blanket during sex. ^ One motivation might be clan rivalry. Journalists are no more (or less) prone to lying than the rest of society. Who knows.

^ JB is a native of Stockholm. There is no book I could say was written for me but none struck me as Noam Chomsky's Understanding Power.

^ That was interesting. Mohamoud Hassan's cognisance of the purpose of the BBC, his role in it and the candid way in which he describes this role is what makes this man quite credible, in my opinion. Here's an excerpt of what he said in the article: The overall purpose of the Somali Service, like the BBC Arabic Service and the many other services of the BBC World Service, is to serve Britain’s foreign interest . In other words, the Service is to serve the BBC propaganda, which is sometimes subtle and other times not so subtle. All of us who served in the BBC have willy-nilly participated in that propaganda. If we have tolerated performing this propaganda as a price for keeping our jobs (you might say we were mercenaries), at least we had always resisted any physical harm being done to our country.

I wonder why Ngonge is not on SOL anymore.

^ Not to mention illegal act, assuming he did it. The essence of the argument should not be diluted to clannism. It belittles and dehumanizes the victim into a clan stooge. It is due to the courage of this victim that we know anything. If it's a false accusation, that person is buying herself an express ticket to hell. Acuuthu bilaah.

Originally posted by Abaadir: I have yet to see someone from Alabama or Deep South for that matter anchoring Major American Television news. It must have to do with their thick accent. You're not saying a southern accent is an indication of ill-qualification, are you? For if you are, then that's a racist statement that you need to retract.

Good STOIC, Sharon was overweight and overdue for a stroke. Pat Robertson himself is overdue for a stroke. That God smit Sharon for dividing the holy land is not what did him in, it's all the pressure on his veins to pump blood through all that fat. Now, what happens to him when he dies later today (or tomorrow) is probably related to the holy land. On another note, no one person exposes the hypocrisy of western media more than Pat Robertson. For a media that jumps Ahmadenijad of Iran or any other quack from the east, they show tremendous restraint to their own homegrown, father of all quacks, Pat Robertson. The man is certifiably insane. How else could one explain the utter rubbish and nonsense that comes out of his mouth? Even worse, how could one explain the lack of scrutiny and condemnation he so shamelessly receives?

^ Are you on crack, son? What does a new play he wrote have to do with rape charges?
-
I know first hand someone Sangub hit on and probably would have molested, fondled or raped had he had an opportunity. Though that's not much of an evidence but his admission in this case should negate what anyone else would say out there. When are we, as a people, going to get past the collective shame we feel when one of our own is caught commiting a crime? It does not reflect badly on all of us. A warlord does not make all Somalis war criminals. And a pedophile surely does not represent us no matter how many songs he's written. So much for my hiatus.

^ The man admitted to masturbating on and fondling a 10 year old. He then had the gull to come back a decade later to finish the dirty job. That's pedophelia and molesting a child and later probably attempted rape. Both felony crimes. How many more are in the shadows who can't come forward and he won't admit to? The only question that remains is how many years he should spend in jail. And I'm hoping it's a long while. Look, whether he's a legend or not is irrelevant here. Molesting children is a no no. Even a friggin legend can be a pedophile. Get that through your thick clannist heads!
