You mean give birth without engaging in intercourse with the male of the species? Artificial insemination.

^ Someone laafs you around here. It looks like there may be a stampede of some sort.

^ Provide the links saaxib. Some of us can't even get out of bed if the internet is down or Google is not working.

^ Good luck finding bzzr in Las Geel. I'm not sure about jiljilayc laga qaado beerka but what I do know is one look at that pot of Garow and I'd have eaten grass dipped in bird shidh. That stuff couldn't possibly be fit for human consumption.

I remember having breakfast in Dacar Budhuq one morning during a road trip between Berbera and Hargeisa in 1986. The people were very friendly, the beer and canjeero were exquisite but, sadly, the name of the town (if one could call it that) matched its wretchedness. I hope with the change of the name the town has been transformed as well.

^ You forget though that stakes are now higher. Back in the days, African teams weren't scouted that much for talent. Now the world cup is a recruitment fest. Good luck to them anyway. I have yet to recover fully from the 1998 Denmark-Nigeria 4-1 massacre. I still have nightmares.

If the Palestinians were the ones with aggressive demands, a massive army (with nukes), settlements strewn everywhere and the backing of the only super power left, they'd choose which government they would negotiate with. Alas, they don't. What they do have is the moral high ground (which means diddly by the way) and a legitimate claim to a contiguous land to call their own state. They're not getting it via negotiations. What then, good I P? Talk for the next 40 years and practice meditation in the meantime? Saaxib, at some point, one must re-evaluate the effectiveness of the strategy they're using. The former strategy is a failed one. The Palestianians are no better off than they were 10, 15 or even 20 years ago. In fact, they're worse off. Exactly what little are you speaking of? The 60% unemployment rate? The demolished homes and refugee rolls increasing by the day? Helicopter gunship "precision" assassinations? Which is it, saaxib?

^ His speedy congrats speaks volumes, doesn't it? He may just be hedging his bets with Hamas. Think about it, he's a "respected" negotiator and a well known name in the entire world. He's soft spoken and very articulate. Hamas would do well by having him on board. Erakat, in turn, would find a good home in Hamas and distance himself from the stench of Fatah. What say you good General?

^ I see you brought in the heavy artillery. I've no idea what "gamuumaayo" means but I'm sure it's not a nice thing. Or is it? Won't you break it down for us good checkmate?

If it's a matter of posture when death comes calling, the Palestinians ought to be standing rather than kneeling. Resistance, my friend, though seemingly futile, is the only way to peace. Forty (40) years of negotiations have brought nothing but indignity and humiliation. Hamas should just ignore the so-called quartet and get ready for a long war. I'm tired of this diplomacy crap where by the time the Palestinians are allowed at the table, they've conceded everything but their lives. One thing that might actually be as bad as Hamas' win to the west and Israel is if Saeb Erakat defects and becomes member of Hamas. How's that for a united Palestinian front?

Here's what Israel (and it's lap dogs) want Hamas to do publicly: 1) Recognize the right of Israel to exist. 2) Change its charter to remove the entry that calls for Israel's destruction. 3) Lay down their arms (i.e. disband the military wing). 4) Renounce "terrorism" and sing the US and EU tunes to get some dollars and euros. Basically, what Israel wants is a soft, corrupt and toothless "negotiating partner" in Palestinians. Another Fatah, if you will.
-
^ What makes you think the EU and US will negotiate with Hamas when Israel refuses to do so? What will they be negotiating? Euro exchange rates? Saaxib I understand hope is a good thing, but what we have here is unrealistic expectations on Hamas based on the euphoria of the stunning and overwhelming election victory. This too will pass and we're only waiting on dissapointment. The 'calculus' of the Middle East has not changed that much, yet. May be the addition of a nuclear weapon or two in someone's arsenal will do the trick. Until then, it's really status quo. By the way, what in God's good name is "the support of the Islamic and Arab world"? I've never heard of any such thing when it comes to Palestine. Could you give me an example of this.

^ The man can certainly say all the right things but the real question is, can he walk the walk? Between the arrogant Israelis, the ignorant Americans, the opportunistic Europeans and the spineless Arabs, the Palestinians are doomed. There's no way out. Little will change in terms of improvement in the lives of Palestinians. A self-fulfilling prophecy will ensue here. First Hamas is accused of terrorism (armed resistance really) and won't be negotiated with. Then all means of funding (US, EU or even Arab) will be squeezed to force them on to their knees. With that new level of desperation, the Palastinians will be hitting Israeli check-points, settlements and coffee shops. Then the "we told you so" headlines will be everywhere. Same old shidh, different political party. I'm afraid there's little to celebrate.

^ These guys are certainly a short cut to heaven. No doubt about it. And I wouldn't bother hiring anyone saaxib. I'd do it myself. Hadaynaa dadka nafta ka qaadin naxariistii iyo karaamadii ayay u diideen. Ilaahay meel baas ka tuur.

^ I've not heard it about Castro but I did hear it of the Cubans. Cuba (and the Soviets) were on Ethiopia's side in the war of 1977-78. I suspect Somalis came across either Cuban combatants or pilots who may have been fat and had man-boobs. With the understandable hatred of an enemy and not knowing men could get fat enough to grow boobs, some Somalis may have thought all Cuban men had boobs. Obviously, I don't know this for a fact but that's how I explain it to myself. It's quite difficult to pinpoint how or when racial slurs and stereotypes originate. On Fidel Castro himself, I've watched many documentaries on him with footage of his early years through today. I can safely tell you he's a highly eccentric revolutionary but not one with "naaso dheer". This is my favorite (and most comprehensive) documentary of El Commandante.

I was about to watch a Castro documentary when I read this. The one person who expertly mixes Somali and English here is MMA. I taught myself to read and write Af-Somali as I never studied in Somalia. I did it as a kid reading Xidigta Oktoobar. A few pages of mostly rubbish. Even then I knew our government was up to no good but at least I learned to read and write the language. That and listening to Cawke on the radio sometimes.

Ducaqabow, ducadu ma xumee, ficil baa loo bahanyahay ninyahow. I don't mean to blaspheme but sometimes I'm so frustated I don't even bother saying a prayer , istaqfurulah. There's only so much bool shidh you can watch over the years ninyahow. If I've not reached my saturation level, I'm very close to it. We should accept (some) natural disasters for they are beyond our control, but it's ludicrous that a drought would threaten the lives of millions, ninyahow. We basically have 12-15 guys squeezing our collective nuts and refusing to let go. That is just absurd. Where's a suicide bomber when you need one? The one thing that (probably) would make me leave this place is if there's any more apathy I see around me than I already do.

^ Do you think something like this forum could ever make a difference in that wretched land we call home? I can see the educational and entertainment value but is that all there is to it? Can we not exert some form of influence on how things are shaped? What else could gather this many people, across many countries but SOL? There must be a way to leverage this thing.
-
^ Don't be terrorised by Bishaaro, good Stoic. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll get it right. Af-Somali is tough but practice makes perfect and there's no better place to do it than here. Though I admit there's no 'th' in our alphabet, how else could we write atheer? If it sounds like a 'th', walks like a 'th' then it's a 'th', atheerayaal.

^ Walee LSK tolku waa inay xaal iigaa doonaan. Waana runtaaye, Xiinow, Bishaaro la'aanteed waa habaar. I think what's addictive is the longing to be around those who share much with us. After spending the whole day in corporate America, it is a refuge to come home to. SOL is in our souls.

^ So only the bad Xiin stays? Bishaaro, don't go anywhere!

Xiinow aniga horta ragaa isku da' manihin. Haday da'adi cuslaysay oo kursi ama sariir kakici laayihin, waa iyaga hawl utaala. Aniga meeshan waa laygu sixray baan umaleeya ee hasheegin in laygu baryo. Waa lagayaaba in laygu baryo inaan fasax kaqaato but never the other way around.

LOL. I said I was talentless, not emotionless. Warka noo dildilaaci ninyahow, oo gabayga noo sharax. You know it's bad when the gallery begs for commentary, right? We should be afforded one sans any begging.

^ Saaxib meelna ma aadine halkii ayaan dhako waynahay wali. Mise hadaan dhawr cisho maqnaado waad ii xiistaa ninyahow? Wadankaan hadii aan askar iyo waxaa faraha lagalo anigu waa tarxiil deg deg ah xaalkaygu.
