And I don't disagree; the threads on the (accused) child molester and the (born again) war criminal were indeed feeding frenzies. Should they not have been? Wait, don't answer that. It's a rhetorical question.
  2. That's how a spade is called a spade. Bravo ya sheikh Nur.
  3. ^ Haye awoowe. Jimcaale, atheer all my marbles are still there, I hope. So AHA is a liar and an enemy of Islam who fell on her own sword. A small victory? Justice served? Islam is vindicated? Karma is an Ayaan? Where's the piñata, let's party? We all react differently to different events, atheer. To work up a hate feeding frenzy in this thread is what I asked others to avoid. To accuse people of being faithless Ayaan-lovers is asinine. But there's a lesson to be learnt here: those who get into the business of insulting the faith and cultures of others should have a squeaky clean closet. Bada bim bada bum.
  4. ^ Actually that wasn't so bad. In fact, I should reconsider my negative view of belly dancing.
  5. ^ A little self-promotion there, old man?
  6. Originally posted by Khayr: Ayan's campaign can and has impacted on perceptions of somali and muslim people as a whole. She has magnified the sterotypes and gone out of her way to become a spokeperson in the name 'Slandering Islam and Muslims'. No one's ever disputed that, to my knowledge. In fact, that is a booming business she's in. Her and many others are enriching themselves off of slandering Islam. She's just one of us, is that it? Her being Somali is what endows her with the special, extra tender loving care? Does the fact that she's a native Laas Caanood girl give her any more vileness, say, than the Sultan lady in California? Why is she making many of us have extra foam at the mouth? Anyone wondering about this? She has been on a smere campaign that has been well funded by the Dutch government. Her negative smere campaign has propagated negative sterotypes of muslims and somalis. Just take a look at the Dutch immigration policies along with the rest of the EU. So she was used by the Dutch and now she's being discarded? I thought she was to blame for all of this and not anyone else? My family and yours are now looked at as FGMers and wife abusers First, then Humans or Somalis etc. How would you feel if at an interview or at work, they asked you if you did FGM to your daughter or if you slap your wife etc... because thats what they see on and hear on T.V., print media and internet. Ayan the Mulheeda is part of that driving force that propagates these views. I don't know about you but Hirsi Ali had zilch effect on my life or my family's. The perpetual war in Somalia had more effect. FGM was not made up by her nor is wife beating a rare occurence in Somalia. Are you saying she's exploiting it? Well duh? You think I'm coming to her defence? That's your view. I care for her even less than you do. What am I doing in this wretched thread? Just trying to cut down on the bullshit xanaa manaa flying around here. Please, do continue without me. Do you think that she would have gotten the attention from the media had she been a mother who took care of her kids and aging parents? Would she have gotten your attention?
  7. ^ Oh look what the cat dragged in. Faaraxow I know what she meant and I don't care one bit for it. Her views are a dime a dozen, just like everyone else's.
  8. Originally posted by WaTerLily: What most of you seem to be missing, the Muslim majority of you that is, is that this woman is an enemy of Islam and an enemy of God. If you are a true believer you would not even be making up excuses for her. The simple fact is, true believers hate those who are against their Lord and are always ready to defend their faith. Now it's almost a problem for you to even say she deserves what she gets or that she is wrong. Nobody is talking of killing her here but even condemning her is suddenly hard. I'm tired of apologetic Muslims and those believers who are always on the verge of doubt. 'Allah will defend his faith', what an excuse to hide behind! Oh I see now. So the strength of one's faith is directly proportional to how hard (and how often) he or she condemns AHA (and in the process defends Islam). Well pardon me for missing the theme of this party. P.S. I missed this part but exactly who made excuses for this woman?
  9. Farah Blueow, HornAfrik is a "direct decendent" of Arab royalty so don't let his nickname fool you. Also Arabs are into belly dancing which involves the movement of another body part. Hence his lack of familiarity with and appreciation of niiko. As Africans, the niiko was and is a form of communication. Clearly we speak a language he understands not.
  10. Originally posted by Khayr: The killings in xamar are not realities for some of us. It might be sad but it is true as we are thousands of miles from that part of the world and are not bombardered with daily gruesome images of those killings. However, with Ayan the Mulheeda, its a different story because she is a symbol of Embarassement to the larger Somali community and has committed the grave sin of making a life out of Mocking our Deen. Far away killings, embarrassment? Far away killings, embarrassment? Tough choices, eh, good Khayr?
  11. ^ We're on the same page. And one could argue she's left the fold of Islam then turned around to bad-mouth the prophet (pbuh) and therefore is eligible for death. As with our other misplaced priorities, we get all hot and bothered about AHA when just last week 150 people were killed, hundreds more wounded and close to 200,000 people were displaced or otherwise affected. So let me restate my point for those who're still unclear, AHA is not the demon that's haunting us. If you look really close, she's quite literally the very least of our problems.
  12. Lying on an asylum application would have 100% of citizenships of Somalis living abroad revoked.
  13. ^ Yac. A Critic of Muslim Intolerance Faces Loss of Dutch Citizenship By MARLISE SIMONS May 16, 2006 PARIS, May 15 — The Dutch government on Monday abruptly threatened to revoke the citizenship of one of the country's most prominent members of Parliament, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a Somali-born woman who arrived as a refugee 14 years ago. The minister of immigration, Rita Verdonk, said Ms. Hirsi Ali had provided inaccurate information when applying for political asylum in 1992 and seeking Dutch citizenship in 1997. As a result, the minister said, both applications were invalid. Ms. Hirsi Ali has been given six weeks to respond. The move is likely to provoke a widespread reaction because Ms. Hirsi Ali, 36, has faced repeated death threats since 2002, when she became well known because of her outspoken criticism of conservative Islam and of the mistreatment of Muslim women, even in The Netherlands. She was the writer of a short television documentary on violence against Muslim women made by the filmmaker Theo van Gogh, who was murdered in an Amsterdam street in 2004 by a Dutch-Moroccan who said his victim had insulted Islam. The killer pinned a note to the body of Mr. van Gogh saying that Ms. Hirsi Ali would be next. Long before Mr. van Gogh's death, Ms. Hirsi Ali had been provided with full-time bodyguards by the Dutch government and had been living in a series of safe houses. Despite that, she continued speaking and writing on abuse of women in Islam and her view that the religion promotes intolerance. "I'm speechless," Ms. Hirsi Ali said in a telephone interview from The Hague after she had received a call from Ms. Verdonk on Monday night. . Ms. Hirsi Ali said she considered the move to take away her citizenship, leaving her stateless, as an attempt to silence her. "I have been fully committed to my work in Parliament, and I have taken many risks," she said. "This will make others think harder before they speak out." She said she was baffled by the unexpected uproar over her asylum procedure because she had told the story numerous times in interviews and in her own essays about how she changed her last name from Magan to Ali and changed her date of birth when she arrived in the Netherlands at age 22, escaping from an arranged marriage. She tried to hide at first "in case my father or my brother or my husband looked for me with bad intentions," she said. "I'm now being picked on for lying, but I have admitted this for years." She said she discussed the matter with the leaders of the conservative political party VVD when they invited her to run for Parliament. Her difficulty began over the weekend after a television documentary retraced her steps and she once more said on camera that she had changed some facts on arriving in The Netherlands. As elections approach, the debate about immigration in The Netherlands has become increasingly tense, with Ms. Verdonk taking an ever harder line and recently expelling would-be immigrants who failed to meet the criteria for political asylum. Ms. Hirsi Ali has also come under criticism. Opponents say she has polarized the immigration debate, and some have called for her to be deported. She said she would resign from Parliament on Tuesday and speed up her intended departure for the United States, where she has applied for a job at the American Enterprise Institute. She had intended to serve out her mandate, she said. But in April she was notified that she would have to vacate her secure government apartment because her neighbors won a lawsuit complaining that her presence exposed them to risk.
  14. Are you wondering why all the emotion, good Valenteenah? I'm sure you have a guess and I'd love to hear it. Viking, Lying about Somalis having honor killings is nothing compared to actually killing Somalis with impunity. 17. Could all this hate of AHA be due to her reminding Somalis of themselves? Even a little? Like it's looking in the mirror? Though not entirely undeserved, there just seems to be an extra dose of vitriol being hurled in her direction. Not even warlords in Muqdisho get multiple, individualized and multimedia topics like AHA does on SOL? What if AHA was Ahmed Hirsi Ali? Anyone stop to examine that? Just a thought. P.S. As LePoint accurately pointed out, the US and the AEI will not embarass themselves by putting the national guard on the US-Mexican border and having AHA (a self-confessed queue-jumper and fraudster) do the talkshow circuit here in DC. It's just not gonna happen. She's headed to Buulo Xuubay or whereever she came from originally.
  18. ^ Not if there's a fatwa authorizing it.
  19. Niiko is about the only thing that is 105% Somali. Just about everything else has been borrowed from Arabs, Indians, Europeans and everyone in between. Make niiko, not war.
  20. Ok. Cool. Thanks for the link. Great documentary.
  21. Any reason why you're posting it piece by piece?
