  1. It sucks that you have to pre-order tickets at most venues. Anyway, it's a gr8 opportunity for muslim children and also for non-muslims. Btw, enter a raffle ticket to win a trip to Hajj on their website.
  2. U know....u guys are right..I believe its Yusuf Islam. What was I thinking!
  3. Salaams QL He sure does sound like MJ, but it ain't him. Firstly, the singer flawlessly pronounces every arabic letter. Whoever this person is, Masha Allah Allah has blessed him with a beautiful voice. Maybe someone can help us track this mysterious person ... I want to know.
  4. Salaams, I think this CD set is worth it.It's a bit pricey. Maybe I'll wait for the sale (if any) =============================================================================== Famous Women in Islam Dr. Umar Faruq 'Abd-Allah Islamic history has one of the most remarkable legacies of famous women in human history. This CD set is primarily biographical and focuses on a select number of prominent women in Islamic history from the Age of the Prophet until modern times in a wide variety of areas from scholarship, mysticism, and poetry to social patronage, war, and politics. It shows that the status of women in Islamic societies has never been uniform or monolithic but has shifted from place to place, from age to age, and from class to social class. The greatest disparity, however, has been between the norms of the Prophetic period and those of subsequent ages. Prophetic society lacked the rigid divisions of social space that became characteristic of many traditional Islamic societies, and, as a rule, Prophetic society was more open and less patriarchal, giving women greater freedom and allowing them a conspicuous role within the matrix of social and civic life. A second major shift in women's status occurred during the colonial, post-colonial, and modern periods, when the position of Muslim women often deteriorated markedly. Although the class focuses on the legacies of particular women, it will look at their lives as an index of a number of concrete theological and legal issues pertaining to gender and sexuality in Islamic Law and Muslim culture. This set is not intended for women alone or just for Muslims. Includes Class Notes. http://www.masud.co.uk/shopping/famous_women.htm http://www.nawawi.org/courses/class_women_islam.html
  5. Yaa ku ducayey LST. May God reward you for your efforts to educate us about this important sahaba RA. I just love reading about him. Everytime I imagine him making the most beautiful Aadhan of all times.
  6. JZK for sharing. Knowing and acting on it are two different things. Sometimes you may know that picking up the Quran is good for the soul and will help you but at the moment you want to be preoccupied with say your fav. TV show. It is in that very moment you should fight with yourself and struggle to do the right thing. Excellent notes.
  7. I've noticed alot of activities in this section. I've been away for sometime, and upon returning some things I've read here disturbed me. I'm sure some of you felt like you wanted to refute, but how can you when some brothers n' sisters copy n' paste shuyukh's (who you ain't never heard of) opinions in matters that don't really pertain to most practicing muslims. It even seems like Islam is reduced to propaganda  Is what am saying far fetched? I feel like brother Nur just about rescued us in Ramadan....me love your contributions . May Allah bless your efforts. Don't leave us! I propose that we get back to our basics. Many of us are lacking in this. For example, I appreciated Rahma's article on Practical ways on improving Salah. We can all relate to it. And there is a great demand for informative topics like these (my sixth sense tells me so) Also, we should avoid heavy issues..ie. Sunni vs. Shia, Are you for/against Khalifah state, etc. Topics like these have proved counterproductive and clearly don't bring us any closer to Allah. Instead, we personalize discussions which often takes the wrong turn. We gotta remind ourselves that sheikhs or Imams aren't present on this panel, so controversial materials should be restricted. This is not censorship, it's using common sense to avoid confusing topics. There are plenty of sites for that. Our objectives should be clear. ie. Discussion of common topics that we can all relate to ex. salah, stories of the prophets, sahabas, the attributes of Allah s.w.a., the life and character of our beloved Prophet Moxammed s.a.w., striving to resist temptations, etc. Let's promote unity and love for eachother, in essence brother/sisterhood. ALL IN FAVOR SAY AYE!!!!
  8. Most of us here (according to my observation) are not well versed in Islamic educatation ie.Quran and Sunnah, let alone in some of the books authored by the sheikhs mentioned here. My question to you all is: how is this discussion benefiting us? I'm not naive, I know we have some serious differences within the Ahlu Sunnah crowd..........however, most of us can't participate in this heated topic and quite frankly it's a turn off to many. It may even decline the interest in some to pursue the study of our deen because they are tainted with doubts created by ordinary muslims like yourselves. Pls reflect on the impact of your words on others, don't take this forum for granted.
  9. Did you suffer from dizzy spells or other health encounters during Ramadan? Well, I wasn't drinking as often as I should have and lemmi tell you, I had a hard time praying Tarawix for the first two nights because of mild dehydration. Anyway, I was browsing some sites and here's what I found: Diet during Ramadan by Dr. Mohamed Zafar http://www.crescentlife.com/spirituality/diet_during_ramadan.htm Health Guidelines for Ramadan by Dr. Farouk Haffejee http://www.crescentlife.com/spirituality/health_guidelines_for_ramadhan.htm
  10. Very deep and thought provoking piece. Jazakallah.

  12. assalamu alaikum, Sister I can sit here and give you my personal view in this matter, but to be honest with you I can't supply you with a particual hadith to justify what you're doing is totally fine. So the best advice I can give you is to atleast talk to 3 learned people in your community. That's always been my way! Good luck.
  13. Names names names, that's my problem. Horrible short-term memory when it comes to events, like I can't remember what I did last June 'less I check my planner. However, I have excellent long term memory??? I know, Its weird!!! SS, it helps if you write jot down what you're suppose to....like a daily to do list. But sometimes, I even have trouble remembering to check my daily list..lol. Gosh you're not alone! Lander good advice.
  14. Enjoy~~~~ http://www.modernmuslima.com/ramadanwomen.htm
  15. Ramadan Kariim to all, This year is the first in many years where I have the chance to attend Tarawiix every night. I want to get back to memorizing the Holy Quran + study Tafsiir. This Ramadan is very imporant to me....so I am doing some soul searching...its a perfect time to review your life and I would encourage all of you to do it. I won't miss Laylatul Qadr for the world Insha Allah. Good everyone. Wa salaam.

    Ramadan Topics

Brother Baashi, President Bush adviced us tonite not to take the flu shot if your young and healthy (for his explanation for the shortage of flu vaccine) But I'll take ur advice, u seem more level-headed. Jazakallah.
  17. It has to do with your level of Imaan. My conscious is like a nagging person, it stays with me for a long time until I deal with it. I can choose to ignore it, but I always know what I've done was wrong. Therefore I end up repenting. The way I see it.....Its a gift. I'm learning more and more on tuning in to my inner voice. Wa salaam.
  18. MSA (Muslim Student's Association) Vice Prez. I was always too busy for student orgs. Maybe this year am open to joining student councel (easy, and u get paid, lol). I hear talks of forming African org., not sure if am interested. D.A. ur turn, miss busy body

    Ramadan Topics

Assalamu Alaikum & Ramadan kariim to all. All of the topics you've listed seem ooh soo important its hard to narrow down 2 three! Here are mine: 8. Let us shape how Islam is perceived by Non Muslims, through our kind actions 9. Freedom is like light, the higher the source, the wider its scope. 11. Run Away from your problems, literally, Long Distance running and Taraawiih Prayers, Soul Body and Mind tuning, an e-Nuri Analogy.
  21. Originally posted by Libaax-Sankataabte: It is done. Already?? Didn't imagine unity to arrive this soon. History is made. My prayers would be for the President and the entire parliment members to not lose focus on the real issues of our beloved country and its residents. We hope, we wait, we see.........
  22. God Bless You x-quizit *not past reading the 1st page*
  23. I watched the presential debate last week. Both candidates said they are striving for a "secure Isreal". And last night as well, the vp's didn't hide who's side they're on. But hey, I think Americans should choose the lesser evil, and that's Kerry/Edwards. As for last night, I thought Edwards won.
  24. ^ There are countless reasons as to why muslims should venture into the media world. For one, if it hadn't been for many websites (sincere in their approach of Dawa), thousands of people wouldn't have reverted to Islam. Its said that 50 people a day revert to Islam (not sure if its around teh world or just in n.america). I agree with you that your character should speak the light of your deen. Many of us have to work on that department, I agree. If you are in a position to be Daee in Islam, in a position of Dawah, going the route of Media or your own MEDIA whether it is Videos, movies,Internet etc.. is not the wayyy to go about. I have trouble with that, and many pple in dawaa would too. Media is a crucial tool to spread the word of Allah. Infact, we should do it for the sake of our own ummah. Alot of us are lost unfortunately, and fall for the trap set by the media that Islam is a religion of hate. We should do it for the our generation, and the generations to come. But not everyone can embark on this task. God has endowed special pple with this talent and they don't need anyone's approval/critism to do what they're suppose to do. That's my take on this subject. Laters.
  25. I found this Hadith few days ago, I had it with me for a long time. On the authority of Abu Malki al-Harith ibn Asim al-Ashari (R.A.), who said: The messenger of Allah (SAW) said: Purity is half of faith.Al-hamdulillah (Praise be to Allah) fills the scales and Subhanallah (How far is Allah from every imperfection) and Al-hamdulilah fills that which is between heaven and earth. Prayer is light; charity is a proof; patience is illumination; and the Quran is an argument for or against you. Everyone starts his day and is a vendor of his soul, either freeing it or bringing about its ruin. [Muslim] Beautiful hadith.
