Socod Badne's comment should be removed.....it's really disgusting! You got some sexist/misogynist issues to resolve. It's funny how you tie sisters who don't wear modest clothes with sexual assault/harrassment in elementary school?????!!!!! Clear enuff? We have 4 moderators....and this post has been up for 2 weeks!!! Are the moderators for Islam active? just curious.

Masha Allah Baashi, I'm happy 2 hear the good news. I have a nephew (cousin's kid)in grade 9 who's also gifted. However, he's enrolled in public school, and quite honestly bored out of his mind. His brother is close to being gifted too. Yet, the possibility of going to a special school (or a better alternative) is slim for reasons I still don't understand. Anyway, good luck with finding the best option for your child. I'm extremely happy for your family

Ameen, Last year, they held the concert on a Monday during the first part of the day, and registration for the retreat (another location) opened early evening. Come, you won't regret it! A little pricey, but it's all worth it in the end. Wa salaam.

Why is Socodbadne's comment still posted??? Are the Admins for Islam section around?????

Ameen, Assalamu Alaikum, You posed questions that seem to be very important to you. In my humble opinion, I don't think forum discussions can shed light to your question. Why don't you come to the retreat, the scholars will break it down 4 you........they'll have a field day with you jk. This is why I believe we should all reconnect with the scholars of Islam, the inheritors of the Prophet, s.a.w. Khalaf, I understand your confusion about our Ummah, these are difficult times for us all. We should have hope...........I think the more we go back to the sources, our perceptions sharpen and we will see the light at the end of the tunnel. ***will write more later, Insha Allah.

Assalamu Alaikum brothers & sisters!!! In response to Ameen regarding sitting with folks from different aqeedah: a similar question was asked in last year's retreat to Shaykh Abdallah Bin Bayah. Anyone who knows about this Shaykh will come to the conclusion, given his extensive background, to be one of the top scholars living today, may Allah always protect and bless him. So I highly value his opinions/naseehah. He really did clear up some confusion I had last year. Someone asked about the different aqeedah, ie. salafis vs.murids & asharafi, etc...... (Please let's not get into extensive discussion what each of these are). His answer was: (straight from my notes) * People shouldn't argue about these issues, for they have been around for centuries. * Everyone is looking at the same words, but come to different interpreations--- literal vs. metaphoric. *He studied each one in depth, and they are inconclusive. They are intellectual. *His advice is to avoid calling people kuffar & fusaaq. *Don't go into detail. *We shouldn't attack, these are insoluble problem, I've studied this indepth. *Philophy of materialism is a bigger problem in the world than these other issues. Additional advice from various other questions *He stressed the importance of unity, that it should be the higher principle. *He mentioned how our religion is vaste, we should recognize other perspectives, and that we should be open minded! *If you make everything constricted, people become constricted. There should be room given to people. *Also, when asked about homosexuality rampant in today's society, he said to stick to people of Abrahamic faith (ie. Christians and Jews) regarding this matter.(Khalaf do you think he's apologetic too?) He's presence and insight....wow, walaahi was an eye opening experience for me. May Allah make it possible for students in N.America to learn from him again. Ok, that's all I'll say about this topic!

I love scholars...especially ones you connect with. I deeply love and respect shuyuukhs such as Zaid Shakir and many others.

Keep 'em coming!!! pics to prove your trip? oh, I have this fear of relying purely on cards.....and those fears came true for you. Always carry some cash...the old fashioned way!

Ilhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam, walahi I love you!! I was so happy when you told me you worked out your schedule for RIS....I know how hard that must've been for you. I'm trying to reserve my energy.....eating &sleeping right. Last year was way too exhausting for me.....you remember. Ok I do have some notes from the retreat...half the time I was too busy tracking down sheikhs, lol, however there's a brother who made his notes available online, God bless his soul!!! http://www.hahmed.com/blog/written-work/notes-from-conferenceslectures/ (password = toronto) Yalla, go do your work!!

You can't knock down something you haven't tried yet!

X-quizit....Salaams sis!!! Hope all is well with you. Tickets? no, not yet, I'm waiting for the retreat registration to open up first.....gosh It's taking forever!!!! Hayam, Toronto is my native city....and I'm always visiting (ok it went down to once a year now). Plus, I don't live that far Well brothers and sister, the way I see it is to use your God given intellect and heart and you be the judge of it. I don't care what kind of lecture/workshop/seminar/halaqa you attend, if something doesn't feel right to you, use your intuition (Btw, this is a personal advice from Sh.Zaid Shakir to moi , more on that later Insha Allah). We need to rise to the occasion personally if we desire to see any real changes happen in our communities. So forget the haters and do what you're suppose to do.......well in my case I need to get rejuvinated and inspired to pursue my dream of becoming a better muslim to serve humanity!! The convention is nothing more than a reminder for us, it's not an instituion of knowledge. Ameen, wasn't there a fatwa last year or the year before against RIS? cajeeb walaahi. Btw, is Khalid Yasin an Imam, daa'ee or a Sheikh/scholar? just curious! I've heard him once in the Purpose of Life lecture.

Regarding music, the important thing to know is not to condemn something that scholars of Islam don't all agree on. [paraphrasing from a notable scholar]. I respect differing points of view in Islam, as long as we acknowledge those differences. Personally......am happy!!!! Will grap a copy soon Insha Allah.

Poll: Marry a married man or a Non-Somali man?
StarGazer replied to Reality Check's topic in General
I can't believe you created this topic....lol. -
Hayam thanks for reviving the threat!!! Assalamu Alaikum everyone. So ok me and couple of sisters from SOL did go to the knowledge retreat last year, and I've been raving about it since. Infact, I dont' mind if I miss the convention what I really want is the retreat.....NO MATTER WHAT!!!! I realized I didn't comment much after the convention last year. I couldn't post about my personal experiences during the retreat...man, I can only say that it was deeply moving for me and countless others. Sheikh Abdallah Adhami is truly my mentor for life. Also, for those of you who had the chance to be in the presence of Sh. Bin Bayyah only gained insights and gratititude that we are in essence blessed to have this beautiful deen. Ok girls and boys, who wants to create a brand new thread????? am sooooooooooooooooo looking forward this year, I pray that Allah grants permission to attend this convention, Amin. I love CANADA.
