Deadbrain..plss..u didn't have to get all visual to express your point  See this is why we need a sister's mod!!! Can we pls remove the degrading picz? Darman, #1, I think the SOL sisters know how to handle business and therefore she would not place herself in that vulnerable situation (half-naked).You with me girls? Thnks for the concern though Darman, let's us know there's a brother out there looking out for us. Secondly, my sister recently bought the cell with the digital camera and to me it seems primitive. For one thing, the pictures turn out all fuzzy. Give it a year or so to advance.

Salaams, Illmatic, long time no post eh? Wlc back Finally an article that addresses the problems of our muslim community. I could relate to what the author was trying to convey. Many times I've ran into muslims, mainly reverts to Islam, who ran into a wall when tried to get some service from masjids/imams. Case in point: A sister who was new to Islam had gotten married and soon after her then husband began abusing her emotionally, physically, and practically put her on house arrest (financial restriction). She called the Imam that married them at their local masjid time and time again, but the Iman chose to ignore her requests. All she needed was some1 to talk to her husband!! Walaahi, the pregnant sister was trying to reach this man for weeks. This is where I lost my faith in Imams, because they lack leadership in the community. They are suppose be our inspiration, our guidance, a role-model. There are few institutions in N.America which address muslim issues, and cater to muslim needs. Another problem is Imams tend to not acknowlege some very ugly issues which plague the community. For example, sexual abuse in families. I remember one sheikh talking about this in a gathering where he said that muslims who assume leadership roles like to hide the dirt under carpets. There should be facilities available to aid muslims in all kinds of issues. This is why muslims should go into fields which inturn can help build a better community for us. We arent' going anywhere any time soon!!! Personally I'd rather talk to a muslim who can understand where am coming than to a kuffar who can lead me astray. This is all I can think of today, Illmatic thnks for the article bro. This article definitely challenges muslims. Have good weekend.

It's impossible to remember EVERY product out there that supports the zionist state of Isreal. We should atleast try to boycott what we can, like big brand names such as PEPSI and Starbucks(Tim Hortons for me). Otherwise I'd go crzy everytime I try to purchase items. The Students Movement for Justice, which is a small organization in my university, fought real hard this year and their main objective was: For our university to divest funds, which reaches into the millions, from companies in Isreal. Their argument was was if you're going to say both sides are wrong, why aren't we funding both of them. Fund them both or don't fund either. And guess what? Our Univesity is the 1st in the nation to divest from the apartheid Isreal I'm so proud of them!!!! This is a greater cause than to get everyone to boycott random products. I think we should be united in one or two major causes and take drastic measures to reach our goal. Btw, we're not against jewish citizens who happen to own shops, companies, and banks, it's the oppressive regime in palestine. If there's direct link to them supporting Isreal, then we as muslims should be concerned. Only my 2 centz. Peace.

I'm an addict y'all. I wake up, work, study, and sleep with music. It's a problem because I know better. One thing I'm doing is resisting to purchase CD's, from couple a year to almost none last year. I try to listen to positive music without explicit lyrics which is alot better than listening to 50cents or the latest Jay-Z. Yet, I know it needs to stop. Enuff with the excuses! As Shujui stated, I don't expect to keep this habit of mine in the long run.

That's an excellent question! Ofcourse you'd be sining everytime you give advices that leads to haram actions. One of my girlfriends knows not ask me to be her fashion consultant when she's getting ready to club...lol. Listen sis, don't be afraid to speak your mind. If you know her well and you think you can persuade her to do the right thing, then talk to her. I'm not talking about beating her down with the truth (as some might like to do), but having the right attitude and approach can have a positive effect. Otherwise, make it clear to her that her behavior is unacceptable by you and that hearing about it upsets you. Respecting each other's bounderies is important. Who knows, she might oneday become inspired by your adherance to the truth. Anyway, If you want hadiths talking about this I could provide it to you after my exams are over  , Insha allah. Good luck abaayo. ***runs n' looks for more supply of caffeine*****

Modesty, true the temptations of this dunya is soo deep, it's upclose n' personal. I struggle every single day with it!! Keep up the 5 daily prayers and Insha Allah it'll keep you away from sins eventually. Trust me! I think what's vital nowadays is to strengthen prayers because if you take a look around you, prayer is no longer essential to most muslim's lives. Tighten your robe with Allah first, and the rest will follow, with effort ofcourse. May Allah guide us in the right path Amiin.

Assalamu Alaikum, At the age of 9, I memorized nearly 3 Juz of the Quran and now I can barely remember 1 . With the help of my mom, I'm now trying to get back in the regular routine of re-memorizing for the pleasure of Allah and also because I believe it will help me become a better muslim. Not only that, I enjoy reading the beautiful words of Allah and also listening to them. *Allah says in the Holy Qur'an (interpretation of the meaning): "Those who recite the Book of Allah, establish regular prayer, and spend (in charity) out of what We have provided for them, secretly and openly, hope for commerce that will never fail" (Fatir 35:29) *Abdullah ibn Amr ibn Al-As may Allah bless him reported: The Prophet peace be upon him said, "The one who was devoted to the Qur'an will be told on the Day of Resurrection: `Recite and ascend (in ranks) as you used to recite when you were in the world. Your rank will be at the last Ayah you recite.''' [Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi]. This Hadith mentions the merit of those who memorize part or all of the Qur'an. Some scholars, in explaining this Hadith, have mentioned that the number of ranks (levels) in Paradise is equal to the number of ayahs in the Qur'an, and that a believer will rise one rank for each ayah that he or she memorizes. *In another Hadith, Othman ibn Affan may Allah bless him reported that the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him said, "The best amongst you is the one who learns the Qur'an and teaches it.'' [Al-Bukhari]. In what follows is a list of few hints regarding memorizing the Qur'an, some of which were presented to us by the knowledgeable Sh.Osama Abdul-Azeem of Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt. A)First, make sure to correct your tawbah (repentance to Allah), as sins do not leave any room for the Words of Allah. The Imam Al-Shafie has a famous verse of poetry in which he complained to his scholar about having difficulty in memorizing. His scholar advised him to abandon sins B)Have your intention ready, and bear in mind the reward and virtues of this great deed as mentioned in the Hadiths above. Ask Allah sincerely to assist you in accomplishing this. C)Dedicate a specific time each day (or every couple of days) for memorizing. This should be a time when you are not busy with other things. D)Use the same copy of the Qur'an each time. This is because your mind takes a 'snapshot' of the pages. E)Start with the surahs that are easiest to you. Many people recommend beginning with the last five juz's (the 30th, then the 29th, and so on). F)Other surahs to begin with are those that you enjoy reciting most of all, and those that you frequently listen to and thus probably already know part of by heart. G)The younger you are, the easier it will be. As you grow older, you get busier and your capacity for memorizing decreases. However, it's never too late In Shaa Allah. If you haven't memorized a lot during your childhood or teens, you can still catch up. H)After completing a couple of ayahs, recite them in the next nafl (voluntary prayer) that you pray. Alternatively, practice them with a friend or your spouse. Finally, it might be a good idea to work in groups, encouraging one another (do you remember subcis in dugsi?) If you are trying to get your children to memorize, you might want to create a sense of competition among them and then provide some reward to whoever memorizes best. May Allah guide us to all that pleases Him, Ameen.

Wild_Cat I couldn't have said it better. Those are the exact reasons why we should get a lady moderator. SOS, you're right, where's Lady_fatima? Mango, lol, I didn't even realize that was you. why do as somalis marry girls the minute we find out she is pregnant? don't we know that this kid isn't conceived in a halal way and the fact that we did the nekah while she was pregnant the rest of the kids are still basterdes?(excuse my lang).. Why do we refer to an innocent child who had nothing to do with the transgression of his/her parents as a ******* ? I think that's a disgusting attitude to have. No offence sister, but you just displayed a typical somali attitude towards children born out of wedlock. Allah will deal with BOTH parents, but the child is innocent and he/she shouldn't be labelled n' be treated like outcasts. It's takes 2 to make it outta sight, so if a pregnancy results then what's wrong with the male taking responsibility for his actions. Maybe Somalis do it to save face, but I know here in N.America they marry to assume responsibility. A girl is always her mother, and mothers know whats good for her daughter especialy when she comes home with unauthorised belly enlargement. That's not necessarily true, there are plenty of mothers who raised their daughters better than that and come home pregnant. And as for the matter of whether its halal for the 2 pple in question to marry, I have no clue. It's better for you to ask a sheikh or a scholar of Islam for more details.

Honesita...u orite there? What on earth are u talking about...lol.

Khayr, you've pretty much summed up the major division btwn muslims. Quite honestly, I stopped looking into what "version" of Islam is right. First time I was exposed to this was on campus when the muslim student association almost dissolved b'coz of Salafi vs. Sufis dispute. We even had a battle of ideologies right here in this forum not long ago, I'm not sure if they agreed to disagree peacefully. The way I see it once you come into the fold of Islam by proclaiming the shahada along with the 5 pillars, then you're a muslim. I will embrace you as my sister/brother no matter what. You know well muslims are becoming more suspecious of each other more than ever, striving to look for differences then commonality. Yup, the brotherhood is in jeopardy. I need coffee to stay up....... To be continued Insha Allah.
