  1. Some further more... This is Shaneemo Kaasa Balbalaare, fittingly popularly also known as Shaneemo Shuun. It is across from Isteeshinka Hodan. Tarbuunka. The only building Siyaad Barre built that had not succumbed to the civil war. This is Taleex. It is where my Abti's house is located and the safest and best xaafad in Xamar now. It was also where I was staying. If you look carefully above the left house, you will see the MINARET of Masaajidka C/rashiid. Don't you also love the bacaad on the field??? Reminds me the true caro maanyo. This is Haantii Carwada. Note with its famous long encompassing wall that is well known of Carwada. It is, yeah, Carwadii sanadkii mar la furi jiray oona ku taalay Taleex. That carwo is carved now. One part is masaajid. One other part being a garaash baabuur {pictured below}, and other parts are occupied by refugees. The garaash that is part of Carwada now. Where I used to play Kadhimeey Kadhim at my xaafad. How scary and cidlo it is now. ____________________ I hope you enjoyed. Dalkeena Ilaahey ha inoogu dhigo nabad: Aamiin. Iyo wadankii bar baaro: Aamiin.
  2. Continued... This is Jidka Sodonka. A building next to Carwada Iidkoow. Note how Jidka Sodonka looks like. Baabuurta meeshee rabaan ay marayaan. Ninba naftaa, nabiyoow ummadaa aaka socotaa jidadka Xamar. Isbartiibada. Its main gate. It is now occupied by some refugees. Isbartiibada from another angle. On that day, it was raining, beautiful. I mean kuleelkii aa first time ka neefsaday ay ahayd. And this was my xaafad, where I literally grew up. It is just in front of our house. This is also called Bermuuda now, the most dangerous section in Xamar. It is a ghost town; it is completely obliterated, badly destroyed; hardly a house stands. The only house that still stands is ours, and it is because of my father who never left from it. That jid goes to Dabka, it comes from Isgoyska Bakaaraha. This house is exactly across from our house. It used to be, O Lord, a luxury house. How I wish if the owner had been able to see it, I am sure she would have fainted. This is Bermuuda also. The opposite site. This way now goes to Isgoyska Bakaaraha from Dabka. Note how scary the houses look. You would have never thought any soul ever lived there. As a boy maqaayadii aa sanbuuska ka cuni jiray, located just next to our house. What a qashin iyo sida loo fiiq fiiqday. Also the next house to Maqaayada was owned by Reer Uunlaaye, the very second richest family in Soomaaliya at that time. Our xaafad at the back. Where I used to play some banooni maalin walba. Some more...
  3. Salaan... Note: I edited, if you are able to see them now, good, if not then...} ___________________ Some of you guys, nomads, had asked me if I have any pictures from Xamar. I do. However, since it is easier to show you all in here rather than individually, well here you have them now. They are not many, but heey, I did my part and tried to be a bit geesi, hokey. And if you are looking the pictures of Curuba, Jubba, Badda Liido, Jasiira, etc well then I love my life and I wasn't going to risk to go places like them at all. Anyway, here they are: Just after I arrived in Xamar {the airport was located outside of it, a town called Cisaleey} and just outside that make-shift airport, I saw those great geeliyaal. Besides of reminding me of my childhood memories of geeloow gumbalalax song, I immediately also remembered you SOL-nomadic guys. I then said myself, "Heck how dare can I miss not to take this opportunity by shooting some shots." I told the driver of the car and his armed-staff to stop. I then took several pictures of those geel. I would have loved to take more, but the driver with his armed-staff were getting a bit annoyed, thinking to themselves, "Xoolahaan xayawaanka masawiranaayo muxuu ahaa?". Note the PERFECT CLOUDLESS BEAUTIFUL Soomaali blue sky. Also our ocean is just couple yards away and ooh, how I wished to go there. Well, there you go and have another look of geel. Since I irritated some armed-gangs to take those shots marka idinka maa idiin daahaa. And a final one. This is Carwada Iidkoow. It was the largest mall in Xamar back when nabad was nabad. It had everything. Today this is how it looks like. On the next page....

  9. Salaan... Do you guys really watch all of these shows on tv? Almost of those shows, I never watched any of them. And booy, am I glad that I didn't. I am glad I don't have cable, and I hardly watch tv, well besides Peter Mansbridge on National on CBC. P.S.: Today I read from the paper that there is a new gay-themed "reality" show coming up. It is titled Boy Meets Boy, and it will be on Bravo! channel. One more reason not to have a cable. _______________ Macsalaama.
  10. Salaan... Do not blame Xamar itself. Blame those who came to it from God-knows where. And they brought their nastiest nomadic actions to Xamar. Them should go whence they came from originally and leave Muqdisho as it was prior to 1990--Xamar belongs to ciyaal xamar--all of them. ps. do u have any pictures/stories to share about ur visit? Please tell me how the ppl are doing. thanks. Yeah, I do have a lot of pictures, especially me standing in the midst of Bermuuda—near to Isgooyska Bakaaraha. It is worst xaafad in Xamar now, which was where I grew up. Congratulate me how geesi I was standing just there. That xaafad si xunaa loo galay. Balaaya basaa heshay. The only former government-owned public places that looks exactly the same is Tarbuunka. That place is really the same. I think shubkii lagu dhisay aa adkaa. Now, at the nearby of Tarbuunka, like Isbitaalka Xooga and Sarihii Ruushka, it became xarunta jaadka lagu gado. The best road is also located in Tarbuunka area. It is the avenue from KM-4 which goes all the way to Tarbuunka to Jidka Sodonka. I think it is called Jidka Banaadir. This road and the adjoining one, Taleex Avenue, are the best roads in Xamar. And the best xaafad is Taleex, which I was staying. Newly built houses were booming in Taleex and Carwadda area. However, you can’t recognize Isgooyska Kaasa Balbalaare. I was looking, kept saying, "Where is the isgooys? Where?" When I was finally shown, I had travelled on that route before and hadn't had any idea it was the isgooys I had seen because much of it had changed. In the middle of the isgooys itself, there are some baraako-built stores. Almost all other isgooyses I had seen had been converted like that. The worst is located in right middle of Jidka Sodonka, now called Black Sea—where they sell jaad, shidaal and car equipments, all side by side on the road. I must say that if you can drive a car in Xamar, you are a masterful driver, much more like a NASCAR-driver. It is not really that simple. Where chaos and anarchy prevails, they still try their best to drive like there are laws to obey. The funniest is some drive on the wrong side of the road because the other way is badly damaged, thus avoiding. By then driving on the wrong, illegal side, they fight with the other upcoming traffic. And honking of cars is thus on all the time, with: "War ka leexo meesha...War intee u socotaa adiga...War jidkaaga ku soco kan dhanka kale waaye..." Masaajidka C/rashiid still stands too. I prayed there one Friday with a lot of gazing and staring from the standbys. I must admit I was enjoying the celebrity status at that moment. And the stunning moment was when one evening I tried to have a conversation with some kids in that Taleex xaafad. They immediately stopped their conversation, and start questioning me, like, "In lagu afduubo maa rabtaa maxaa banaanka u joogtaa?" I was really astounded with a question like that. I told them, "Heey, I am as Soomaali as you." I simply asked why would anyone kidnap me; they reasoned because I am from 'qurba.' It was rather shocking because I never expected 10-year-olds asking a question like that. _________________ Macsalaama!

  16. Salaan... The usc ethnically cleaned xamar of all other clans I can assure you that today Xamar--since I was there in this past April--is lived by all walks of Soomaali qabiils without any fear--unless you are rich or from qurba, that is. Yes, still, it is unsafe, but tell me where there lives multi-qabiil that is safe? Name it? As you had chosen Gaalkacyo, the two clans that dominate in that area still can't agree with which ceel biyaha laga dhaansado markaas aa capital leedahay. I once said that do not open unneccesary cracks. We already have tons of troubles to deal with. Majority of folks do still support Xamar as a capital, not because of qabiil but because of location and history. And final reason: I went to Xamar, and noo I am not a card-carrying USC qabiil member. I might have afraid for my life because coming from qurba than qabiil. Go and see Xamar for yourself. 20. Salaan... Had anyone been there yesterday? I was with Atlanta. The two teams in the final game were Atlanta and Northern Stars {Toronto}. I think that was the most exciting game I had ever watched Soomaali play--whether a street-soccer or a tournament. This was the only game I had seen everyone was watching the game real hard. Some Atlanta fans {including me} were breathing hard wanting to tie the game. Anyway Atlanta lost by two goals. Cabdi Bille was there from Washington. So was Mukhtaar Cuti--the best soccer player Soomaaliya had ever seen. _______________ Aamina, this year you guys had sent some pretty-playing lads. UK players were fine this year. Keep sending the finest stars. And a final message to those flag-waving teens: to be a patriot doesn't mean you have to come in the field and wave the flag and make some qash-qashaad, but don't want to speak in Soomaali. Soomaaliya's flag doesn't need you if you don't want to speak its Soomaali language. La socda saas. _________________ Macsalaama!!

  22. Salaan... If you put it that way, then was he a Somali hero? We are truely misinformed generation!! Some sees him as hero, while other percieved him as invader. Matkeey, widaay, is daji. Sayidka is a hero to ALL Soomaali. He had done some terrible things, but still his good vision of united Soomaaliya weights more. And I believe it is a pure myth that he came to Maay-speaking regions and persecuted them. Again, one of the infamous more myths is the idea of sab and samaale. This is a pure conjured myth. Matkey, brother, most of what you had written is true, among them being that Maay-speaking people who reside the inter-riverine areas of the country has had always been underrepresented because anywhere at any time did a person who hails from those regions had been granted the highest office, i.e. president or prime minister. The three other major clans had tasted this position, but not the fourth. And still they, simply being an honourable people, don't complain; Maay-speaking people don't fancy to declare independence or lament how mistreated they had been under a regime that no longer exists. Or blame a whole tribe or a whole geographical area and its residents. Not them. I solute them to that cause. Maay-speaking people endured a genocidal acts. The record is clear those people are the MOST major clan-belonging mistreated people in Soomaaliya. From the regime of Siyaad to Caydiid. They trashed those regions. Some committed unspokable genocide acts, reason among is why was once dubbed Baydhabo as the 'death city,' and this happened because a lack of aid that Caydiid did not allow the destined aid travel to their respective regions, and those regions did not have access to an ocean. Matkeey, I agree with what Maay-speaking {as I am one of them, a Maay-speaker} people had been done to, and that is another topic, and I can continue that, but one thing is af Maay-maay is a dialect. It is a sister-language to af-Maxaa. Af-Maxaa is a dialect too, just like af-Maay. Remember, the constitution doesn't say the official languages are 'Soomaali AND Maay.' But it did declare the official language being Soomaali, defined Soomaali as Maay and Maxaa. Marka it is not that Maay should stand firmly against Soomaali. No. Both Maay and Maxaa are within Soomaali language. I am saying all of those because I am a passionate Soomaali nationalist. My true allegiance rests with Soomaali and Soomaaliya, not my tribe or my sub-clan. If my tribe does wrong, I firmly stand against the aggression, just as if it was done to my tribe that I would against. I love being an honest Soomaali, who treats all Soomaalis as equal. MMA since Islam as the state religion is sacrosanct, why not Arabic as the second language? Horn, duqa I didn't know they relegated Carabi language into the third official language. That is sad. One more reason to disagree with this new constitution. A constitution promoted by warlords. What do you expect then than a lot of pitfalls and negative consequences. Sophist, duqa you keep saying why then isn't Garre dialect recognized. Well, Garre dialect is a part of Maay. Maay itself encompasses a lot of dialects, among them Garre and Tuni {I hope the Admin. doesn't mind the supposedly qabiilistic terms we are all using }. And this idea of recognizing dialect-dialect is supported and endorsed by Itoobiya. One final reason not to agree anything Itoobiya endorses. _________________ Macsalaama!

  24. Salaan... This news is just in: Vince Carter, the star of Toronto Raptors basketball team, built a basketball court for the youths--all Soomaalis--in Dixon. And its inauguration was today. Vince Carter was personally there, so was Toronto Police Chief Julian Fantino. Some youths booed to Vince Carter when he was there trying to play. So was done to the Chief too. And after they left, the faaraxis already had a major fight. And later that day, some xaliimooyin yar yar had another fight in there. This is the first day. Me wonders what may come ahead. The foundation of Vince Carter paid almost $130,000 for this project, and what did Vince get in return? Boo iyo kac iyo kud. Soomaaliyeey, baliis, baliis, isla yaaba. Saan cadaalad ma'aha. ________________ And to that sister sarta kasoo booday, Ilaahey ha u danbi dhaafo: Aamiin. ________________ Macsalaama!!
  25. Salaan... Language has never been an issue for Somalis (including our brothers from Bay and Bakool) Frankly, as a person whose heritage hails from Bay and Bakool regions, I was saddened by those faction leaders {especially self-nominated RRA leaders} who are keen to fight with minor issues, especially that they want af Maay-maay to be a part of the official language. Af Maay-maay is Soomaali, period. And being Soomaali means af Maay-maay is already official, only being another dialect. And I have a whole issues with the new constitution. First because of this 'federal' idea. Federal regions within Soomaaliya will not solve anything, only furthering the disunity we already have. Secondly, how do we define federal regions, since it is going to supposedly based on qabiil lands. Now, say, this tuulo in one federal region doesn't want to be part of that region because the majority of people in this tuulo doesn't share the region's majority tribe; and they opt to go where their tribe has a federal region. With many tuulo like this, I am fearing what is ahead of us. Confusion, among them. I wrote before, and I will write again that some things should be better left alone, which to me are sacrosanct: Soomaaliya being a Muslim country Unity of Soomaaliya Soomaali language being the official Xamar being the capital--no one should or could claim that their group owns Xamar And the blue flag with the STAR Every other issue, you can put on the table. But those above, for God's sake, leave them alone, baliis. ________________ Macsalaama!!
