Salaan... Originally posted by nafta: ...i had this conversation with couple of African girls about Africa and ones culture, so to make a long thing short, one of the girls said that they didnt consider us Somalians as African. She said that because we don't have, and i quote "the nigger nose" or the "the jareer hair" They are slightly right. First, they are a bit confused about the difference between being an "African" and being among with "black race." But first, what and who is African? Is being an African synonymous with being skin-coloured black? Is an African in fact inseparable from a black-coloured person? In a way, a lot of Soomaalis themselves do not consider to be African or associate themselves with the black race. First, because some assumption--or rather misassumption--of African itself being synonymous with "black," hence "jareer" and "boon." Even if some Soomaalis are dark as dhuxul. Soomaali people equate black person to be "jareer." In order to distance themselves from jareer or black, they rather would not even want to do anything remotely that is African, even if Soomaaliya is located in the African continent. Then again, if Soomaali people never cared, these words might have never been everyday Soomaali vernacular: boon, bilis, jareer, nasab, laandheere, etc. Those insulting words are exclusively called to those people Soomaalis consider to be non-Soomaali original, and who have distinct facial features, with jareer hair. A simple fact: Xabasho from Itoobiya are considered to be jareer, while Oromos and Tigreys from Itoobiya too aren't. Some Soomaali people say if we are talking about geographical sense, yes then Soomaaliya the country is classified with the African continent. However, they also ask, would the whites from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia considered to be African in the black sense? Is Egyptian an African? A Moroccan? An Algerian? Is a Berber an African? Many of those Egyptians, Moroccans, Tunisians do not either consider themselves to be African in black sense. I don't even know whether Tigreys, Oromos and Cafars themselves consider to be African either. Some of the "Carab" Sudanese do not consider themselves to be African in the black sense, just same mentality like Soomaalis. I know, it is a bit complicated. And it sure will be as long as African and black can be assumed to be synonymous. Recently, a lot of people who grew up in Western countries are extremely aware the political correctness and say loudly they are "black, African" with an attitude of who-cares and whatever. But back home, Soomaalis do still classify with boon and bilis formula. Even if a "real" Soomaali looks like a jareer, he is still nasab and not "black." And if you want to know my personal opinion of who I consider to be myself, that is easy. I am Soomaali in first, second, and third senses. That is my ten taano.

________________ I much applaud Max'ed Siyaad Barre for resisting the idea to put his picture on official currencies and honouring everyday working people; besides also honouring our country's landmarks by imprinting them on some of legal tenders. And if you tilted or looked from a light reflection, every currency note has a hidden Sayid Maxamed C/lle Xasan's passport-like picture. I only realized this recently.

Salaan... Globalization on my true personal perspective. I was born in a Soomaali hospital built by Italians, delivered by a German doctor, using possibly Russian equipment, brought home in a French car Citroën. Moved to Kenya using an American plane, landed on an airport built by British; lived houses owned by Kenyans. Attending school teachered by Rwandans with Indian majority students. Came to America on a Dutch airplane via Amsterdam with Belgian hostesses. And finally into Canada drinking Tim Hortons. Jaaw.

Salaan... I'd lived that very racially polarized city of Baltimore for six months. On white areas, it is very beautiful, but the ghettoes? That is another story. There aren't many Soomaalis who live there, however some of those few who do are Soomaali Kenyaati. The only landmark that city can cherish is John Hopkins Hospital, a very famous state-of-the-art medical centre. There is no Soomaali maqaayad. No hanging out place for exclusively Soomaalis. In fact, Soomaalis from Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. itself go only to one maqaayad owned by Itoobiyaan located in Washington, D.C. Jaaw.

Believe me, Baashi, they got voices much soother and better than some of current American singers. Jaaw.

Breaking News – Somaliland militia to attack Puntland State

Salaan... AllPuntland.com spreads fabricated news. Quit posting that garbage on SOL! I've had this very wary impression about the owner of that site, so I did a little research. And here is what I had found. Allpuntland.com is registered or possibly owned by a person by the name of: Axmed A. Yuusuf. He lives in Denmark. It is very interesting the guy's name is Axmed A Yuusuf. If we imply the initial middle letter of "A" to be as Abdullahi, then it is clear that site is owned by C/laahi Yuusuf Axmed's son. Or it might be a coincidence. Allaahu aclam. Click here for how and where I got that information from; while there, type allpuntland.com -

Salaan... Taqwa, duqa waa lagu salaamay mudane. Nafta aboosto ii dheh; kheyr waa isku ognahay. Baashi, Hibo iyo aqiyaarta kale, take a look at this fine piece account. Purely cunning or simply irrational? You judge: Nin ka mid ah Ganacsatada magaalada Muqdisho ee ah caasimadda Soomaaliya ayaa wuxuu caado ka dhigtay arrin la yaab leh marka uu habeenkii u hoyaadayo xaafaddiisa, waxayna shaqadiisu ahayd mid ku beegan xilliga habeenkii. Arrinta ninkaan uu caadada ka dhigtay ayaa waxay ahayd in marka uu habeenkii xilli dambe soconayo uu is qaawiyo dharkiisana madaxa ku duubto isagoo hoosta ku xiranaya hal biime (matante) oo ah midda laga hoos xirto surwaalka ama macawiista, sababta uu sidaas u yeelayeyna waxay ahayd isagoo ka baqayey inuu ku dhaco isbaaro xoogaaga uu carruurta u watana laga fara marooqsado. Ninkaan ayaa marka uu habeenkii soconayo una socdo gurigiisa ka sokow is qaawinta wuxuu sameyn jiray in uu isla hadlo isagoo kor u qeylyaya si aysan tuugadu u hunguriyeyn, taasna in badan ayuu ku guuleystay mararka qaarna isagoo ku hilan lacag fara badan ayuu soo dhexmari jiray tuugo u taagan in ay dadka baartaan. Ninkaan ayaa mararka qaar la kulmi jiray in dadku ku jees jeeso ama ay hadal ku tuuraan iyagoo u maleynaya inuu waalan yahay, xittaa tuugada lafteedu wey ka mid ahaan jireen dadka ku ciyaar ciyaara isna wuxuu sameyn jiray qofka uu ka shakiyo una fahmo tuug isaga kala hormari jiray qeylo iyo caay, markaasoo haddana u raacin jiray "Isii lacag aan sigaar ku gato." Waxaa caado u ahayd ninkaan in marka uu gurigiisa ku soo dhowyahay xirto dharkiisa si caadi ahna u labisto, markaasna xaafadda tartiib u yimaado isagoo soo garaacaya gurigiisa. Iswaalihii wuxuu sidaas yeelaba habeenkii dambe ayaa ceebtiisii la ogaaday markii ay iska horyimaadeen dad xil ku lahaa oo gurigiisa u soo dheelmanayey, markaasna si run ah laysaga horyimid iyagoo aqooday xittaa codkiisa. Dadkaan ka hor yimid ninkaan ayaa waxay ahaayeen sodohdiis iyo seedigiis oo iyaga loo sheegay in gabadhoodii uu qabay ninkaani ay foolaneyso, markaasna xilli dambe u soo dheelmaday xaafadda si ay u caawiyaan qoyska hooyadu ka foolaneyso. Markii lays aqooday ayey wiilka iyo Hooyadiis garan waayeen wax ay ku hadlaan, waxaana ku dhashay shaki naxdin leh oo ku aaddan in gabadhii wax noqotay amaba qoyskiis masiibo kale ku dhacday, taasna ay ku xambaartay ninka in uu waasho, waxayna ula hadleen si isku dhex yaacsan, iyagoo leh, "War hebel maxaa kugu dhacay xaaladda ka warran, bismilaahi, sidee bey wax u jiraan?" Ninka oo ahaa mid aan reerka wax xurguf ahi kala dhaxayn weliba ay isku macaan yihiin ayaa isna garan waayey wax uu ku hadlo, isagoo ka xishooday in uu hortooda ku labisto, xittaa mar ayuu damcay in uu cararo, si ay tahayba wuu isku dhex yaacay, wuxuuna go’aansaday daqiiqadihii lays hortaagnaa in uu xagga waalida iga laftigooda isaga dhigo qof waalan, isagoo aamusan ayuuna ka dhaqaaqay, kuna laabtay halkii uu ka yimid, weliba u raaciyey hadalo qadaf ah. Wiilkii iyo hooyadiis oo iyaga mar kale ay la soo gudboonaatay jahwareer kale fahmina waayey wax ay ku hadlaan ayaa intey is fiiriyeen, waxay u dhaqaaqeen dhinacaaiyo gurigii ninka oo ay awalba u socdeen, waxayna reerkii u tageen iyagoon weli aqoon wax ay sheegaan, si hoosana waxay ninka walaalkiis ugu sheegeen in ay soo arkeen ninkii oo xooggaa isku qasan, weliba qaawan oo qaba hal matante, dharka intiisa kalana dhammaantiis madaxa ku duubtay islana hadlaya. Ninkii oo talo ka calowday ayaa reerkii isna xilli dambe yimid, isagoo iska dhigaya nin weli isku yaacsan, wuxuuna codsaday in meel qabow loo dhigo sali buuqana laga yareeyo loona doono kaniinayaal madaxa dajiya, wuxuuna sidaas isaga dhigay todobo berri nin wax si ka noqdeen xagga maskaxda, arrintaana waxay ku dhammaantay ninka oo aakhirkii loo qaatay nin mar waashay, taasna waxaa u soo jiidday ka cabsashadii tuugada. _______________ Qaranpress.com -

He was making fun how some of the much-respected mainstream British media succumbed to that story. A recent famous urban legend story circulating around the Internet and finally seducing the mainstream media, especially the British press, including the Daily Mail, BBC, Guardian and Times of London. Daily Mail and Times of London are both tabloids, but I wonder how the respected Guardian and BBC could bow for a very suspicious story like that. Salaan... Future iron Soomaali chef preparing his favourite dish. Dalac Bilaash: Needed ingredients: Yaanyo shashiid, barbarooni, basal, biyo, saliid, nus qaato cusbo. Needed utensils: Babis, burjiko, mindi, dhuxul, qaato {macalko}, taraq, nafto, digsi, saxan, digsi daboolkiis. Put the dhuxul on burjiko. Pour a little nafto. Flame it with taraq. To make charcoals get fire more quickly, babis it hard; not from the top, but from the sides. When the charcoals or dhuxul burn hard, put your digsi on it. Pour little saliid on it. Cut and make small pieces with your one barbarooni and one little basal by using your mindi. After three minutes, when your saliid boils, pour your yaanyo shashiid on the digsi on burjiko; a cup full of yaanyo shashiid. Cover it with your digsi daboolkiis. After three to four minutes, pour your barbarooni into boiling digsi. Cover it again. After a minute, pour your basal into digsi. Mix it with your qaato {macalko}. After another minute, add your nus qaato cusbo. Add a little biyo. Mix it again with your qaato. After another further minute, take it from the burjiko. Something that is enough for you and your rooti on the day, pour it on your saxan. Enjoy. Courtesy of Experienced Faarax Torobo Iskaabulo {EFTI} in association with Qorqode Group. Salaan... Even the pictures are being analysed frame by frame, dot by dot...cajiib ahaa. Well, let me add my kumi iyo taano then. Let's see, first, what our "statesmen" are drinking. First, the guy who directly is facing C/qaasin is having fun with faanto. {Not good sign for an experienced "statesman"} Shaatigaduud doesn't seem to have any drink placed infront of him. {Perhaps he overstayed in Nairobi close to two years and had had enough with faanto iyo kooko} Kenya's foreign minister is having a specialized bottle water. {Suits it} C/laahi Yuusuf is drinking kooko. {Not a good sign for the "future" president} C/qaasin's drinking is partially covered and not that clear. He too ordered kooko, I guess. Max'ed Qanyare Afrax is drinking one of those bottles I had seen in Xamar shipped from Dubai. {at least not bad considering it is water} Bottom line, either order fancy water, coffee or tea where it suitable--or nothing else Jaaw.
