Lindhout starts scholarship for Somali women An Alberta woman who was held hostage for more than 15 months in Somalia has started a foundation to send women in the war-torn country to university. Amanda Lindhout hopes the charitable foundation will be able to send 10 women to school next year and 100 over the next four years. "We're specifically looking to empower and educate young Somali women who show leadership qualities," Lindhout told reporters in a rare public appearance at a church in Red Deer, Alta., on Sunday. "So, women that already possess those qualities and are ready to step into the role of leadership, we're just giving them a helping hand to be the leaders that they naturally are." Lindhout said she came up with idea for the scholarship while she was in captivity. "The experience in Somalia was the most difficult, violent and brutal thing that I've ever gone through but … in the heart of suffering lies the seeds of inspiration," she said. "I'm choosing to allow that inspiration to grow and the suffering is sort of pushing me forward into my life's work, which is to be a humanitarian and help others." Lindhout said developing the program has helped her heal from the experience. "I don't feel like I left Somalia angry," she said. "I realized very soon into my captivity that the young boys … that were taking away my freedom and abusing me really are the victims of war themselves. When they've never known any other way, how can we expect them to act differently?" Lindhout was snatched off the side of the road along with Australian photographer Nigel Brennan in 2008 while working as a freelance journalist. She was freed last November after both families teamed up to hire a hostage negotiation group. Lindhout said education is a tool to create sustainable change in Somalia. "If the boys that had me, if their mothers had been educated women who taught them something about tolerance and peace and the world, who knows where they would be and what they would be doing, but I doubt they would be doing what they're doing now." Lindhout said she feels a kinship with the women who live there. " I feel like I will feel completely free when my sisters in Somalia are no longer suffering ." [ ] CBC

Why Federalism Is Wrong For Somalia
Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
Read the article, abaayadiis. It offers its own solutions, which I and you might or might not agree. About why I am personally against federalism, just see how Waqooyi Galbeed and Waqooyi Bari is manipulated by Itoobiya. Why? Because of their discord and not being united. Imagine a ten more weak, divided states like that. -
You are being sarcastic, but that can be done. It happened and still happening in Rwanda of all places. There is a new identity called Rwandism in place. It can happen in Soomaaliya. We had a glimpse of it in its heyday in Xamar. It was called 'ciyaalka xaafadda.' Our qabiil and allegiance was ciyaalka xaafadda. Imagine ciyaalka xaafadda ciyaalkee sii dhaleen ciyaalkee sii dhaleen. They would've been completely detached to the idea and need of qabiil. Wax qabiil la yiraahdo kuuma garan lahayn. Alas, first generation of ciyaal xaafadda was abruptly cut short by the civil war.

Why Federalism Is Wrong For Somalia
Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
I am glad someone agrees with me. Federaal wax la yiraahdo Soomaaliya iyo Soomaalida uma roono. So many flaws it has and cannot be applied to a country and nation being as close to homogeneous as Soomaaliya. It would open more problems than it is said to solve. -
Daa'uud, brother, I advise you don't even bother buying any empty land now. Dhulkaas wada banaan waa dhulal dowladeed waana la isku qab qabsan doonaa soon or later. By the way, is that junior Muqdisho FC team in Koronto?

Are my eyes playing on me or isn't this what exactly happened in three years ago? Even same sinking hole and image.

You are very welcome to the forum, even if you are not Soomaali. Do share your opinion. Cowke, Soomaalida ha kala saarin. Waxba isma dhaamaan maanta kuligood.

Easier than done. Soomaaliya is not a computer virus galay. Nope. If you want to 'fix' Soomaali problems, start with you. Adiga iska biloow oo qabyaalad iyo qurunkeeda hala iska kala yareeyo, right on this forum ka biloow. Soomaalinimana jecloow, samaantooda kasii jecloow, xumaantoodana u ceeb astur oo ugu duceey inay soo hanuunaan. Here is a little start: Change that signature to Soomaaliya always and forever. So help me God.
