    just 4 once!

I have never heard that, swahili, the language of war? explain. Anyone that has the opportunity to learn the language within thier university should, they have introduced it last year at my school and proud to say they have expanded it further this year. So many of us are eager to learn french and spanish, but at the thought of learning swahili we shy away, why? its the most commonly used lanugage in Africa, and quite easy to grasp...
  2. Didikong, what a pleasent life you lead, if not understanding arabic songs is a travesty! Do you hve to understand what nancy or amr diab when they sing about love? no, lets be serious Do you have to understand kathem al saher when he sings Layla, it would be nice, if u could, however a true singer (as is my kazumi) would be able to show the emotion and weight of the song, through his voice. Case Closed.
  3. I feel for you, inshallah it will turn out well. I shouldnt be complaining about my 10 pg essay...can't even fathom writing 20,000 words, you must be very good. Take care and It will turn out well.
  4. Do you have to understand the language, to enjoy a good tune? Nope. However, I cannot deny..over the years Amr Diab hasn't been doing well, however the Amr Diab of the late 90's woowow..was something else... Mustapha Amar anyone?
  5. I am still to enjoy Abdel Halim Hafiz..must be all those 60's movies of him in the beach in bright shorts that I only remember when i thnk of him...but never say never, I finally had the sense to understand what Fayrouz and Umm Kalthum are saying, so he's probably next lol Pucca, whose tamer hosni? never heard of him. interesting. should 6arab.com search him. Magnoona...was Asalah's best song ever...until.. ma abash ana...the video for this song was simply HOT and the song is so strong..
  6. 41 TO 50 POINTS: Others see you as fresh, lively, charming, amusing, practical, and always interesting; someone who's constantly in the center of attention, but sufficiently well-balanced not to let it go to their head. They also see you as kind, considerate, and understanding, someone who'll always cheer them up and help them out. I am totally all that!
  7. Beautiful snow A reason to have hotchoco Snow days, everything is shutdown and the days goes lovely with you underneath a blanket with hotchoco and movies. Give me three constellations

  10. Thought to revive this topic, while i was getting lost on Kathem's new album..well not so new..but hey, it is for those of us who live ice box they call canada. Albaniya, Ahabeeni,,,,,,what can you say? What do you guys think about Marwan Khouri, the Lebnoni, he looks like a frog. but his voice is almost "ALMOST" as good as Kazems. No one matchs Kazomi I discovered another great song by our lady Fayrouz. Warda Gawabathi, spelling sucks lol. But its popular remember hearing it sung a million times in the movies of the 60's So what you got?

  14. ^^...ahm...well said, well said. One point I would like to add is that when alot of people create comparisons btw Asia and Africa we have to understand that during cold era there was alot of money(millions) pumped into countries like Korea by the americans and so on . This did not happen in AFrica, not because Africa was a void where the cold war was not waged no...a different form of investment was chosen for this land, instead of mulitnationals building roots in the continent, arms and weaponary was funnlled in, rebels supported against pro-russian african govn's and unfriendly african states( unfriendly to america), leading to the wars that plauged the continent in the 1990's. SO ! the question remains...why did the west choose not to invest in Africa as it did In Asia. There is no one answer.. One way we can look at is that, the American state was not a pot of gold, where one could dip and take whatever they needed whenver they did. Bugdets had to be passed by vote and so, therefore one can ask, did racist preceptions of Africa come into play? Just a theory.

Just discovered this group! they have an interesting tune..while i write this and listen to thier song "Sakina" they have some funny lyrics "yea my wife is my cousin and I thank Allah my kid wasnt born with complications" But serioulsy..amazing tune and one of them doesnt look that bad either Most of thier songs is on RADIOBLOG. When held in comparison to NATIVE DEEN...there is no doubt who wins. Funny thing too..NATIVE DEEN and OUTLANDISH have two songs with the same name. Sakina=Sakeena, wonder who copied whom...
  17. Just realised that some of the names of authors i suggested dont make sense, Thanks Pi. . The First guy is Toyin Falola. Colonial Africa 1185-1939 And his book on Pre-colonial africa is also very enlightening. Frederick Cooper Africa Since 1940 Samir Amin, wrote a very detailed paper on The Transatlantic Slave Trade Just Googling him specifically on Scholar and I was able to get his paper titled "Underdevelopment and dependance in Black Africa" Origns and Comteporary Forms I mean there is so much out there, you just have to check out the right resources. Peace
  18. There can be no pleasure in saying so, but the facts point to one conclusion. Whether in Africa or America, Haiti or Great Britain, blacks are poor because they are, for the most part, incapable of lifting themselves from poverty. Africa is poor, just as Harlem is poor, because it is populated by Africans First, can we accept that is one helluva racist statment there. Africa is Poor because unforutnately its populated by "incapable" africans, or that regardless of oceans that seperate a people, black ppl everywhere will simply always be Poor and therefore needy for western intrevetion eh? mean look at Asia, especially India they were colonized and enslaved by the Brits, but they are rising today and are becoming a force to be reckon with in the globe. I am not trying to take away from the evils that has befallen Africa, but why do Africans always blame the “white man†for everything? Youn answered your self, why is India not comparable to African post colonial states...NEO-COlONIZATION, its a figment of some socialscientists imagation. There is always..this comparison between the GDP of Ghana and Korea during the 50's. They were similar. But see where Ghana is now and Where Korea is now. Africans are doing something wrong they say. Africa has been source of primary products during colonization and has been modified to be a source of primary products after colonization. Nothing much changed. While countries like India and Korea benefited from infrastructure built, such as railway roads, ports, administrative infrastructures. MOst African countries lost this lovely opportunity, any railraods built were towards, farming regions towards the ports. Which resulted in a bunch of unconnected cities and people. There is no doubt that African Leaders post independance made grave errors.Just as you stated, there is corruption... Africa's way out lies in the diversification of their market. A people cannot live victim to world prices of Cocoa, peanuts..... It shouldnt be hard to refute that statement or even put foward that it is an extremely racist narrow minded statement Ya rab, I am sorry ahkh, but how could you believe that those two horrid statements have any truth to them? Someone needs to sit down to an intro to african studies or precolonial african history lecture!!!!! Please I recommend you to visit your African Student Association and Get some info. Could I provide you with easy readings? Falol Toya..grab his famous text books Cooper....Africa Since 1940...amazing read Samir Amin!...his writings on transatlantic slave trade.. AFrica was not PRIMITIVE prior to colonisation that is a construction of the west, to undermine the history of MALI, ETHOPIA, GHANA. etc etc. We were are are a people with a complex social structure. Far too much to explain. However. Get those books from your library and Read!!! If you got any questions. Pls pm me.
  19. Interesting. It would be crazy for me though. I dont miss lectures cause they are boring of all things, just far too many things to do, meet this person, go there, finish this! Sitting down for a 3hr lecture is horrid.
  20. LoL@Jamelia. Next person who says anything about my new shoes should be arrested walah, Some grt antishoeism is going on within my family. But on the topic. Heh, its the times we live in!!
  21. Imam Siraj Wahhaj I believe he was a speaker at this year's RIS or perhaps the 2003 conference, he was well spoken and knowledgable. *_* There isnt a need to get into a debate about the need of our ulama, its established that we are need of good teachers and Socod..Three Things... before I run. late for class. 1-You do get your news second hand every day from BBC, CNN and your local channels 2-And anyone with a bit of sense, would know that for those who are begining to learn a new "thing"( here Islam, Quran, Hadith, etc) needs a qualified teacher, the same way all us univ students pay hundreds of dollars to be taught all sorts of things. 3-Allah knws where your heading with this but seeing from your pervious topics, I care not go there. About the teachers of the faith, teaching you thier own religion? Really man. Get a grip. If one was to go to Al Ahzar and be taught by the shiekh of al ahzar, what religion would he teach other then Islam to the best of his knowledge which is greater then you and I have. Its really a cowardice excuse, you know. I am not bothered with these individuals cause i know instintively that they are going to teach me some that is thier personal twisted version of Islam, nice way of keeping your stance and sounding big haha. Man time wasted. Go listen to some qualified Islamic speakers and then comment with knowledge. Katrina sorry about hijacking your topic G'day
  22. ^ Make that 3, Dont post much anymore. But I did first go with the name Isra..somehwere along the way I lost my password lol and Jawahiir came to exisit. Gosh, was a I so naive, 2001!..5yrs on this site. I should salvage each post, would be a great look at how I have changed. From a FOB to a umm..well thats in the works right now. lol G'day.
  23. I guess they lied then, Those who said. "I am in love with the way she smiles, drinks her coffee, gets worried about how she forgot to give a toonie to the beggar down the street today....." Interesting writup, but sadely enough this guy has not experience true love, its so mechanical, he loves her as a possession he cannot obiviously live without and has grown comfortable with, but not a unique individual. I wonder if most marriages are like this?
  24. Ian aka Liban things make sense now!... Your so annoyed with the spelling and grammar error since its your native language. Immigrants really don't care.
