If ur in school, head down to the couselling office.feel no shame. make an appt and mention ur urgency. ...and also..there are always periods in everyone's life when things are abit funny and wierd with us. if its been going on for a long while. a few weeks. take some action. g'dluck
  2. Come on seriously BSG is not that boring its very interesting right now... anyone watch the show Jericho, last eposide was interesting, not sure where they are going with the whole china thing I thought the season ender for Eureka was LAME! I am kind a lost in terms of Heroes, we are talking about the eposide titled "six months ago" or something, thats the last eposide so far...erg I would have to download all the eposides from now onwards anyway ..time to work during xmas..
  3. Sounds very good. I am yet to find a movie that actually scares me. First I have to watch The Fountain..and this next..
  4. First and Foremost. If your using the excuse of free-mixing between genders as an excuse. I would suggest you define the term exactly. RIS has seprate seating for Men, Women and Family Groups. So would free mixing occur while ur getting food and going to the bazar? Does that not occur while ur in school, going to buy groceries...I don't get the excuse... Ya I heard the one about the ligit status of the Imaams...I only have to ask, Gosh Ya Allah why are people so judgemental..half the people who use that excuse don't even know who the speakers are!! I am still sticking to my idea that they are just discriminating against the organizers.. Ameen..I am not even sure how to approach people who use that excuse, when I heard it the first time, I simply told them to not base thier knowledge on what other people told them, make the investment and decide..but I doubt it worked.
  5. Seriously. I see no logic in the fact that nasheeds that speak baout the beauty of Allah's creations or on the virtue of the Nabi's life can be considered haram. They lighten your heart and sweeten your day...my younger brother enjoys listening to Sami Yusuf and since he began this he started to take the initative of going to the masjid across the street by himself, without us urging him to go. He is eager to learn the quran and loves his lessons.. Since I see no direct logic and since there is also differing opinions on the topic. One should make a sound personal judgment. And should not enforce thier choice upon others or claim any form of absolute correctness in thier opinion ALso let's remember that very few things in reality were made Haram by our faith, Islam was sent for us not to make life hard...but to simplify matters for us and lead us on a right path..Since the cirle of Haram is so small, lets not add things to it.. Folks what happened to critical thinking? One should always question everything and all the tenants of our faith is based on logic..so think, question and decide..
  6. Nope ur not. So am I. But the funny thing is Tami your all the way from the US and ur coming and I met some people who live in the city heard about year after year and never once considered going...all thier exuses (on the girls side) that there is free-mixing between men and women and that some of the shiekhs are not proper sheikhs..is just weird...by the way these folks are somalis...I mean could this be due to the fact that most of the organizers are Pakistanis/arabs and there is abit of hidden discrimination there. All that aside..It should be the funnest( is that a word?) year ever!!!!! I can't wait to hear Tariq Ramadan and Khalid Yasin both for the first time

    what's like?

Hey Cambaro..I was in dubai before going to hergaisa and I am glad I didnt get any medication from toronto, the prices were beyond expensive. If your thinking of stopping in Dubai to fly out from there, just get them from there, malaria medication is over the counter and anything else you can imagine. In regards to which air carrier to take African Express or Daallo. We took african express and it was funny experience to say the least and the drive from berbera to hergaisa was just too much...so Daallo is a better bet, just for the fact that it lands in the capital city. heh enjoy urselves If you don't live in the city core you won't hve much problems with mosqiutes,

    what's like?

You will enjoy urself if you have no expectations when you get there. And the advice above about the clothes is verrry good. My family did the same thing, and it was really helpful..my anuts had a collections of diracs from when in the 80's which they never wore, so giving it away was nothing. Also I am not sure if you are staying with family or in a hotel. If your staying with family, expect alot of people to come and forth right ask you for some money for this or that, so have some cash prepared for that. Oh and its a good idea to have a car on hand with a driver that knows the part of the country ur travelling to. Take people's opinion about where to go. My best recomendation. Go to berbera and spend some time there, the beaches are just so beautiful. Oh and if your in hergaisa and you get bored, not sure how long you plan on staying, go to the Gandhi Public Library, they have some good novels you can borrow and if you have some books sittng around at home, take them along and donate them!! Have fun and enjoy urself
  12. I was in love with Lost..but its soo boring right now...I don't bother watching it, just download each week's eposide Heroes is very good. Hiro is just so cute. and should be interesting now that they caught Sylar. If you can't watch the show each week. download Bittorent and register at Demnoiod(sp?) (google it) you can download each weekly eposide of almost all the shows on tv now and even some past seasons..

  15. ^ did u have to kill the joke!? funny though..sometimes u will do anything for a sick note..univ students know what I am talking about..
  16. 6arab.com is the best site to me for arabic songs. One bad thing, U have to be able to read arabic text to know what songs u want. They used to spell it out in latin alphabets but stopped this recently. One trick take ur mouse to a listed song and look at the bottom bar and you can see it spelled out in english. Best songs? I am in love with Fayrouz currently ( i know very old) but her song Ahwak is just beautiful the words are amazing... And as always Mr. Kathem Al Saher and Ms. Asala always rock! enjoy
  17. In all cases its his personal choice. Btw him and Allah (SWT) Could you provide a link to the press release or where you found the info so we could look it up? Edit found his myspace account. the songs are pretty good. http://www.myspace.com/yusufislam
  18. Alf Congrats!!!! May Allah (SWT) bless you with long and happy married life with your husband and many happy little kids
  19. ^ True its admirable and I am in no way trying to put it down. But I seriously suggest you visit the country any part. Live there for atleast 3-4 months, until your not a tourist anymore and going through the motions of life. I had the same hopes and dreams before I went this past summer for 4 months. It was not as I expected, as Idil said I was a stranger no matter what I wore or how I spoke. What am I doing? I am in economics and public policy, I can't imagine doing anything in somalia/somaliland other than NGO work.
  20. prosperity, and justice that marked many of the lands rule by Muslims from Andalusia to Baghdad. It also attests to atrocities, power mongering, in-fighting, and more, among Muslims and towards others. The decisions of these rulers on how to proceed with the spreading of the word as they saw it, defending against armies, building an empire, and maneuvering the political climate of the times goes back to them. Invaders or liberators, they were Muslims but NOT Islam Hey Naden. Thanks for the response, it was well written and the above bit I agree with "Whole" heartedly ! What I annoys me the most is the lack of critical thinking, the ability for some to generalize so much....by throwing around statements like "Islam was spread by the sword" with no room for other considerations....its simply as you said, a human condition...ofcourse there was evil inhand with good. Many parts of africa, gained knowledge of Islam through their interactions with Muslim merchants who chose to live and do dawah in those areas...and ofcourse there were those the route of voilence... anyway..good discussion.

    Meaning plz?

Hayam u went to library and got a kufar book to intrepet your dreams for you? ya rabi May Allah forgive u. Whats next u gonna ask fortune teller to tell u your future? dat is shirk a big crime in Islam _________________________________________________ First, for me to have commited such a grave sin, as you say, I should have believed whole-heartedly on what this intrepetation said and taken some profound action to change my life based upon it, thereby ignoring the Quran and Sunnah altoghtere and choosing "kufar" book and holding it to the same esteem. I did neither. I do believe that your dreams are controlled by your subconcious fears and as entertainment i choose to pickup one of those self-help understand your dreams books. Big Deal! Ps. Next time dont jump to quickly to assumptions...may allah (swt) forgive you for that one brotha!

    Meaning plz?

hey interesting. over the summer i dreamt constantly about being in car crashes, same dream different variations. For example on dream is I am driving, and it dawns on me that I have no idea how to drive so I crash into a store/office/house..or I have to take over the wheel from someone, who lost control and then leading me to loose control..since I don't know how to drive...after 3 months of these quasi-nightmares, i got a book from the library that intrepts dreams.."dreams of crashing a car" meant that I was unsure of my future. and felt out of control..lol pretty...much what's normal for anyone who's ending thier university career. I don't know where you are in life, but you might be facing a difficult decision..who knows..and maybe your feelng like your blind..and...out of control...hence the car crash? just thought!
