  1. I am still dizzy from Biden's little speech on Roosevelt watching television during the Depression ! I hope he doesn't give us a repeat performance, nontheless it should be an exiciting debate.
  2. Tough one. Really depends on the man! Is he worth it? If he is, I would consider altering my career plans to build a stable home. Heh. Its all hypothetical nyway. Once we get saddled with children and the whole nine yards. Two incomes won't even be enough to keep us afloat.
  3. I swear that is hysterical. There is a massive difference between stopping immigration and breeding an anti-immigration sentiment in society. The United States is a prime example, they are more pro-immigration than Canada, but you can easily feel and see the "us and them" mentality that creeps in every political discussion. Conservative governments court to a different club, that immigrants don't belong to.
  4. I just wanted to add. Conservative governments are traditionally very dangerous towards immigrants. And yes, it doesn't matter if you have been here 2 yrs or 20 yrs. Harper's government is uncommonly strong for a miniority. If we pay attention there are have been several scandals that hit his administration, the latest of which is the speech he stole from Austrialian PM in 2003, to falsely convince Canadians to go to Iraq. This simple fact proves that he follows a certain neoconservative ideology, that has nothing to do with US!
  5. Muuaah! Miskin commonsense is a treasure I didn't see the sign, haven't been there since mid Ramadan. I don't understand people who choose to vote for the conservatives now. Its mostly from being turned off from the liberal leader...there isn't an actual discussion of what the conservatives are proposing. And your right, if we had a conservative government in the time of Tommy Douglas instead of the NDP federal government. There wouldn't have been free healthcare or the welfare system so many of us depended on, in the first few years of our residency. Peasant. No vote is a wasted vote. The main objective now is not to allow the conservatives to achieve a majority, for the first time in a few years the NDP is gaining ground and hopefully together with the Liberals. We will have another minority government.
  6. Allah...Urban this thread is beyond old, I wasn't even in Uni at the time. I sound too young. Well my resonable present day older self, still likes Isabel Allende. I wanted to buy Zorro the other day, but I was just turned off from the familar plot. I instead bought one of her older books, "Ines my soul" so far haven't had a chance to get into it, but I am sure its good. I would recommed, my earlier choice. Daughter of Fortune is a great book and House of Spirits is wonderful, abit like "One Hundred Years of Solitude" magic realism. Gibran Khalil...is just great, I haven't bought any of his books. But read some stuff online. My first introduction to poetry was from a cousin's university textbook...one of his poems was there with a detailed description. Fell inlove with him Pablo Neruda and Ezra Pound
  7. Funny Urban, I have been having the same problem with my PC. But the realtek package did not work for me, I get an error msg that says the software is not compitable with Windows!? Heh. It could be a hardware problem
  8. I simply cannot fathom why he kept on saying "John is right". They even made an ad out of it! Just watching a repeat of the Daily Show and he had some of Biden's blunders... Its not looking good at all.

  15. Originally posted by Norf 1: AED 100K per year in 'New' Dubai. Don't take a pay cut. You will be an expat. Ask for double or two thirds more (i'm not joking) My eyes almost fell out at that amount (AED 100K). Well, until I did the exchange rate thingy. With that annual salary you barely get taxed here. Considering in exchange, I get reasonable rent, free schooling and free healthcare Less tempting, except well the whole Muslim thingy!
  16. OMG Pujah I love your signitures. He better have this mess in control!
  17. Oh. Under the caption of "Mass Afur" I was really expecting something else. Is a similar gathering held for the poor/less fortunate?

  19. Amen Aliyah well said! Che, the list is small, real tiny! But naturally it falls within the confines of what is acceptable to our religion. I am not escaping my ethnicity, but to accept that I am by lineage Somali does not translate to unquestioned loyalty to the current reality that is Somalia!
  20. Maskin, its all bout nationalism right. I have never been an arden flag waver...well except at sports games But really, why do folks like you become so feverish at protecting home and land, because simply put its where one's heart is. Memories and people that have shaped you to the person you are now. I won't risk my life for Somalia, because I have none there; Land or Home. For people like me or of my generation with similar experiences, its our parent's nostaliga and attachment to thier ethnicity, that shaped what fragments of a Somali identity we have. Its only a dellusional person that would lay down thier life Really though, what you lot have is remarkable and beautiful.
  21. to claim to have one identity is silly. we have many that we jugggle according to the situation. who doesn't? At one point we are so tottally somali...near family, friends perhaps. At lunch meetings with your boss, you are so tottally modern, hip young and a citizen of your country of choice. Your American, Canadian...etc. You have rights, You pay taxes! Lets not dellude ourselves with this "I am ONLY Somali" or "I am Somali at the Core of it all" The real test question is, are you willing to die for being a "Somali" NOPPPE... That only leaves us with one core chosen idenity...Muslim
  22. hahaha So "Asalamualikum" is not the only "Islamic" pickup eh.
  23. lol@moonwalk Lakin Sunnah is not fard, and I was always under the impression that one did not commit a grave sin if he did not follow little things like this, as long as he covered himself as prescribed in the Quran and his clothing did not trail in dirt. At the end though, Good Fashion is Personal.
  24. Johnny you FAST?! heh. subhanallah.
