  1. Cadowga noo tashaday carab iyo nuuc walba waa inaan meel uga soo jeesanaa
  2. The Turks have perfected the concept of soft power. They are producing a generation of Somalis who see Turks favorably.
  3. That was general statement but if you want to get specific, Ethiopia is a landlocked. Need I say more?
  4. Galbeedi, Somalis won't be sitting ducks. It is our lack of forward thinking and luck of leadership that's putting in these situations. Somalis do have natural allies and access to weapons and ports. What they lack is organization and good leadership. Any arrangement between these various parties will be temporary. There's anything that Zenawi ever did for Somalis, it is reawakening of national identities. That will be his lasting legacy
  5. I understand it well. Old Observer wants us to believe Oromos in the form of OPDO, diaspora, security forces, etc are the ones to blame and TPLF-led government is merely benevolent arbitrator. And somehow the Federal Government is strong to keep Egyptians and Eritreans away and not yet powerful enough to reign in unruly Oromo. And ensuring the safety of average citizens is hindered by the mechanisms of federalism.
  6. More powerful empires have been condemned to the dustbins of history. I don't see how Abyssinia is any different. Addis will simply become Finfinnee or be flattened.
  7. It seems the dude's idea of unity is based on opposition to their others.
  8. Maakhiri, It doesn't matter who is related to who genetically? What matters how people identity themselves, their cultural, linguistic, religious and politic constructs. And in the case of the Jaarso, identity carries real consequences.
  9. I had a discussion with Galbeedi. From what he says, there are considered to be Dir Somalis but regardless, their politics was misplaced when they threw their support with Oromo. That said, they are actual lost Somali tribes who have no sense of Somali identity. They may not consider themselves Somalis but Oromos do know who is who.
  10. The first phase will span some 6 200km and will link Pakistan (Gwadar and Karachi), Djibouti, Somalia and Kenya
  11. Huawei Marine has announced that it will soon finish a “desktop study” for a new subsea cable system, called the Peace Subsea Cable, to connect South Africa, Kenya, Djibouti, Somalia and Pakistan (Gwadar and Karachi).
  12. I am glad we agree on that. The last thing any Somali region wants a small cabal of businessmen with politicians in their pockets controlling all business activities. Movement of goods and people are also key. I think a difference in politics should not hinder the economic integration of Somali regions and movement of people. Puntland depends on Hiiraan for most of vegetable and fruits, I don't see any reason why they shouldn't get that from Boocame farms.
  13. Galbeedi, In the normal world, Hargeisa should take its responsibility seriously but since it is not normal world, that responsibility of ensuring Awdal's progress falls on its leaders, traditional leaders, politicians, businessmen, religious figures, etc. It seems the leadership is asleep on the wheel, is bought off by Hargeisa or simply don't give sh!t. In any case, nothing is given in this world, it is either earned or taken. Considering reer Awdal have not caused any trouble for secessionist, they have earned the rights to everything but since Hargeisa does not seem to understand or appreciate that, reer Awdal now must take and I don't mean through violence, political accountability or even not paying taxes. Even Eastern Sanaag is fighting to get its share. More and more money is being spent on Ceel-Daahir-Cerigaabo, something they hope to spur economic activities and tie all of Sanaag to Bosaso port. Puntland can be a torn in the Federal Government's side and obviously they do undermine the Federal Government at times, they do secure funds no matter how small from the feds and more importantly, they have been permitted to seek outside donors and investors hence the Chinese building Bosaso, about to build Gaalkacyo Airport and linking Garowe to Eyl in exchange for exploration licenses.
  14. I remember during Xasan Sheikh's tenure, a group of Mogadishu businessmen tried to monopolize fuel imports. They built fuel depots and they thought let's put chokehold on everyone. Luckily, they were rebuffed. Competition is good for business and for consumers.
  15. Old Observer, Your last post doesn't make sense. Regardless of what Oromo does, the federal government has an obligation to protect Somalis in Oromia. If the Oromo government and forces fail to enforce the law, the obligation falls on the federal government. The federal government does not need to be invited to Oromia in order to save lives. You can blame the Oromo but ultimately, it is the federal's government to ensure the safety of all people. A failure to do is an abdication of responsibility or an intentional act.
