KISMAYO (HOL) - The battle for Jubbaland presidency Monday afternoon took a whole new twist when Ethiopian and Jubbaland forces backed by Kenyan troops almost clashed at Kismayu Airport in what could be seen as a last ditch attempt by the Federal Government to wrest control of Kismayu through Ethiopian might. A source at Kismayu airport told Hiiraan Online a military plane belonging to Ethiopian forces was blocked by Jubbaland and Kenyan forces from landing escalating tensions in the southern city ahead of the presidential polls slated for this week. According to the source, the Ethiopian airplane was forced to turn back but a contingent of Ethiopian troops which was already on the ground pitched camp at the entrance of the airport disrupting operations at the facility. KDF and Jubbaland forces held control of the airport, the source added. The attempts by the Ethiopian forces which further escalate the political temperatures in Kismayu and brings to the fore the regional fight for Jubbaland comes a week after Jubbaland president Ahmed Madobe turned down a plea for talks by a delegation of senior Ethiopian military and intelligence officials reportedly at the behest of the Federal Government. Today’s development shifts focus from the local tussle to one fought by Kenya and Ethiopia both which have a 50 year defence cooperation. Nairobi is rooting for the incumbent Ahmed Madobe as Addis which had hitherto presented itself as an arbiter in the region is backing the Federal Government. The failed entry of the Ethiopian forces into Kismayu today comes barely hours after the Jubbaland Independent Boundaries and Elections Commission (JIBEC) told the UN it would now proceed to conduct the presidential elections despite concerns by the UN office in Mogadishu. JIBEC chairman Dr. Hamza Barre said the polls body had incorporated all recommendations by the International Community and adhered to the state and Provisional Constitutions and was set to conduct the exercise. Dr. Barre accused UNSOM head James Swan of ‘misrepresentation of views’ and called for an ‘apology to the people of Jubbaland’.

You are okay in position considering your larger tribal family has overwhelming majority. Besides, your clan is well armed and can defend itself. But 'minority' tribes who are not armed have been robbed blind. Tallaabo, The feds themselves don't want direct elections. It's not a winning propositiob.

He looks like he's on vacation, rested.

I don't know about that but two-thirds should not allocated to a tribe whose population size does not exceed that of the other Somalis. It's insane D-folks have so many seats while indigenous population are sidelined.
-
How is it possible almost two-thirds of the seats went to one community? This is one of the diverse regions of Somalia. This is why we proportional representation? P.s. There's also second list put forward by the opposition.

Take it, easy keyboard warrior. There's not much you could either. Your warlord will be gone soon and tomorrow you will latch on to another one.

Somali Oromo reconciliation conference in Jigjiga
Che -Guevara replied to SeaFaringSomali's topic in Politics
Galbeedi, A couple of days ago marked the day a young Somali mother and her four children were burned to death by an Oromo mob. What's Somali-Oromo brotherhood mean to those that died at the hands of Oromo and not mention 700,000 Somali IDPs camped outside Jigjiga. Xitaa wey noo quuri waayeen inee xabad nogo dilaan. They hacked and burned our people. I don't like useless photo-ops. If they are serious, they must be held accountable. The crimes against Somalis must be acknowledged and addressed. Cagjar is better off uniting his constituents instead placating to others. -
I guess they want direct flights to Mekelle
-
Had they served people properly, Somalis would have been loyal customers. But they sh!t on everybody and are now b!chting. We need competition in other sectors.
-
First of all, I wouldn't advise anyone to stay for decades. That's how we plunged into this never-ending nightmare. Secondly, why I would hate his clan considering they have done nothing to me or my family or even my clan? Thirdly Madoobe came with Kenyans. Fourthly, like another Somali leader, Madoobe himself has done nothing to improve the average people's lives. Tell me any development projects he initiated and finished or his administration initiated and completed. Mind you investment by diaspora, NGOs and Arabs who want to divide Somali don't count.

What sham! Cagjar is useless. -
During his tenure, like many Somali leaders, he has done little to reconcile communities and form an inclusive administration. He has lost the support of key figures including Seeraar and international community are not in mood to appease him. It looks like the security is being taken over by Ethiopians, an unfortunate development by itself. It's better for him to follow Xaaf's example and leave before he's pushed out.
