It was always the wild wild west. Re-imposing the arms embargo will harmstring future governments that might do right by the country. -

Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud chaired an extraordinary meeting of the National Security Council in Mogadishu on Thursday following the looting of two truckloads of weapons in central Somalia on Monday. Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre, Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama, and the Ministers of Justice, Defense, Foreign Affairs, Finance, and Internal Security attended the meeting, along with commanders of military forces, intelligence, and police, the national security adviser, and the director of the presidential palace. Security agencies and National Security Adviser Hussein Macalin briefed the council about the weapons looted in the Abudwak district in the Galgadud region on Monday, July 15, 2024. During the meeting, the council instructed the Ministry of Internal Security to submit a detailed report and recommendations on illegal weapons smuggling into the country. They called for those responsible to be held accountable and for measures to prevent such incidents in the future. The council agreed to finalize the National Policy on Arms Purchase and submit it to the Council of Ministers immediately. They also agreed to ban the sale and trade of firearms. They urged the Ministry of Justice and law enforcement agencies to quickly prosecute all those involved in this illegal activity. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud stressed the importance of strictly implementing the Arms and Ammunition Control laws, emphasizing that the success in lifting the arms embargo is fundamental to implementing the government's Arms Control Policy. At least 12 people were killed in the Abudwak district as government soldiers and local militias fought over two truckloads of weapons illegally brought over the border from Ethiopia. The incident occurred in Shiilamaow village, about 20 kilometers northwest of Abudwak, close to the Ethiopian border. The Internal Security Ministry reported that government security forces had seized the weapons from "illegal weapons traders" and were escorting them when armed militias erected a checkpoint and intercepted the arms. The local militias overpowered government forces after receiving reinforcements from clan members, the official added. The arms that fell into civilian hands included DshK and PKM machine guns, AK-47 assault rifles, pistols, and ammunition, according to a security official.

My bad, I got the dates wrong. His unpredictability would pose a challenge for foreign policy makers. I agree he would abandon places like Somalia, Iraq and Somalia.

Trump is no Reagon, who was a performer and was able to outperform a Southern boy, a clean- cut Jimmy Carter who mishandled the Iran crisis. And America is too polarized. I don't see any blue state voting for Trump. His best chance is with swing states and Biden's dementia. Presidents do have impact on foreign policy, but American foreign policy mostly remains the same, there will be tactical changes under Trump president.

Trump is no underdog. His antics including call for violence against his opponents is what led to this. His thinking did not involve him someone targeting him.

Xaaji, all Somalis should thank men like you and Muse Bihi. You have essentially put secession to an end.

This is Biixi's Somaliland. He confused the youth while the Oromo wait for the opportune time.

The youth of Awdal will be fighting for their existence. If Djibouti helps, that's great.
-
No! The youth of Awdal will be the ones that will fight for their land, and no old man whether be Riyaale, Saylici or anyone else can stop them. The threat posed by the Ethiopian base is not only about annexation of Somali territory, but it is also the encircling of Djibouti by Afars, Eritrea and Ethiopia. Any naval base on the coast will cut off Djibouti from other Somalis.

Xaaji, As usual, you misdiagnose the situation and overestimate Hargeisa capabilities.

Abiy Accuses the Opposition of Planning A Coup
Che -Guevara replied to Che -Guevara's topic in Politics
People are being kidnapped just outside Addis Abeba. The boy king is simply scared. -
Xaaji, You seem to ignore, I believe on purpose, the land belongs whoever he lives there. At the end of the day, what matters is reer Awdal wants. More importantly what matters is what the youth wants. If they want Hargeisa out of their land, Hargeisa will be kicked out. No amount of pressure from else where can change that. Unlike 91, every Somali is armed today. Only two groups among the Somalis seem to not understand that namely, your tolka and the folks who were kicked out of dab-badmiska last night.
