  1. Well, people will always be buying cars. That is a fact. This is not for everyday people, it is for people who can afford to buy landcruisers and other luxury cars. And there are a lot of them in Somaliland these days. The poor got poorer, and the middle class is got richer and more wealthier. For those who can afford such a car, it is better for them to buy from local dealership which will give them both service and warranty guarantee. There is room for 1 or 2 more competitors in this space.

  4. Not all bombings can be attributed to Terrorist groups. There are many different players in this game of which Cheeseman is one of them.
  5. The Amhara understands the Oromos better than anyone. They had been ruling these people for millennia. Almost 40% of Oromo are half-Amhara and identify more with Amhara than their Oromo cousins. Given their performance in 2005 elections despite the pressures and might of the Ethiopian gov't under Meles, it will look as if the upcoming elections in 2020 (if it takes place) is for Amhara's chance to raise. The Tigre by all means are slowly moves out of the picture frame and becoming less and less relevant in the power struggles in Addis Abeba. I am predicting a return of Amhara rule in the next elections.

  7. It could actually pay off big for Abtigiis. He is probably have read the writing on the wall and it is inevitable that the Amhara will assume power. They are determined to get back on top. The only power that can stop them are the Tigray and they seem to be having internal issues as well as image problem. For the Amhara, the Oromo is a piece of cake. They will be able to divide them very easily along culture as well as religious lines. The Oromo in and around Addis Abeba are half-Amhara anyways, by culture and by religion.

  9. This is one of the most damning evidence that not all bombings are done by the Alshbab but most are politically motivated. It is specially disheartening that a foreign country is sponsoring bombings in order to advance its narrow interests.

  15. I do not discount that there were problems, as much in Somaliland as in any other Somali region. As illustrated by the forceful removal of those Somalis that are caged behind barbed wires. But lets not forget a worse situation is unfolding today. Every country you go to, there are Somali in jails, in terrible conditions. Not to mention the slavery in Libya. Somaliland was the least affected by foreign interferences. That is a fact. The only thing the Mad Mullah done was to turn the eyes of the Empire to our country. Before the Mad Mullah, the British were only stationed in key cities and locations, far away from the majority of population which were nomads. After the Mad Mullah, there were foreign armies from as far from India as in Egypt and Uganda that were brought to the country. And the British Administration started moving to the country side where it never reached before. The British had bigger fish to fry erwhere in the world, they least interested in Somali issues. That cannot be said about the Italians. The Italians considered Somalia their main possession, and dealt with it like an extension of Italy.
  16. People are free to get which ever passport they wished as an indivitual. They can get Djiboutian, Ethiopian and there is no reason why they shouldn't get Somalia's Passport if they so choose to. But like Djiboutian, Ethiopian passports, they need to make the effort and travel to Somalia if they want it. Not inside Somaliland. With regards to the MP, he should resign first, and then he can do whatever he wants as an indivitual.
  17. You have to help me here Maakhiri, show us the 'real history' that you are talking about. Anyone can make claims and counter-claims. But in the end, the facts speak for themselves. I know that I am questioning all that you were thaught from younger age and it is hard to reconcile this with your preconceived feel-good-stories passed down from one clan story-teller to another and which has since cemented itself as truism and no one actually bothered to apply the BS factor filter through it. Every clan has their own feel-good stories. But that is not 'real history'. Suldan of Warsangali was trying to bargain a little more for his own clan. There is nothing nationalistic about that. Every clan has done it. And speaking of ancestors, at least my ancestors once ruled the whole region. They actually done it, not dreamed about it. Emir Sharmarke Cali Salah's administration in Zeila ruled from Tojorah in Danakil to Erigavo in Sanaag to Harar City, at one time. Probably should re-read the history of what led to Somaliland becoming a protectorate rather than a colony of the UK. It had a lot to do with the rulers of Zeila and what happened in 1870s after Sharmarke's death. Again, I am not here to talk about ancestors. I am here for actual answers to the questions I raised earlier. 'Somali Nationalism' doesn't go beyond clan interest, it begins with clan interest and stops at clan interest.
  18. This is Firstly can you share the document (s) that you are referring to. Secondly, if you were being offered such grandiose offers like ruler of Somaliland, then naturally you must be a powerful figure with a power base that is present and cannot be ignored. Right? A follow up question is, why would a man with such present power would just be snatched, thrown into jail and sent on a one-way ticket to god-knows-where? And not even two sheep got hurt in the process. I like sheeko-xariir, but that was when I was a kid. Mar ayaa laga waynaada waxaas. Somalis say 'ama buur ahaw, ama buur ku tiirsanaw'. Ina Cali Shire buurna ma ahayn, buur na ku ma tiirsanayn. With regards to the 'Somali nationalism' theme, it is the oldest joke in my opinion. We all know the modus operandi of the Somali psych, it revolves around clans. If you want to picture what the Somali society was like 50, 100 or 200 years ago, just look and analyse today. It is exactly the same, nothing changed just different off-spring. Somali clans, whether or not, they are with or against a Foreigners, it depends on the story. And not necessarily has anything to do with 'nationalism', more to do with 'we can't find our interest' so lets fight - along those lines. Lastly, the years between 1900 and 1920, there was only one man that dominated the Somaliland from coast to coast and that was General Muse Farax Iggare. If anyone would have been offered to rule that whole of Somaliland, he was the man for the job.
