  1. FEDERAL ELECTIONS AND POLITICAL CONSENSUS BUILDING Mogadishu – Somalia’s international partners (listed below) followed the address to the House of the People on 27 June by the Chairperson of the National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) in which she presented technical options for holding one-person-one-vote elections as close as possible to the constitutionally mandated timeframe. We thank the Chairperson for her presentation to the House of the People. We emphasise the continued need for Somalis to engage in inclusive dialogue to forge the widest possible agreement on this important topic, and underscore the importance of a complete and comprehensive dialogue among the FMS and FGS leaders. We welcome the announcement by President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed ‘Farmajo’ that he will convene a meeting with all Federal Member State leaders from 5 to 8 July and we urge that this meeting be the next step in a broad consultation of key stakeholders. We note the Parliament has also been meeting to discuss issues related to the electoral code. We urge that political agreement be fostered ahead of final decisions. We call on all of Somalia’s leaders to work to reach agreement urgently on the path to holding national elections and other pressing national priorities. *African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), Belgium, Denmark, Ethiopia, European Union, Finland, France, Germany, Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Uganda, United Kingdom, United States, and United Nations. 2. Good you have raised that point. Recently I was told by a close friend who came back from Puntland and Mogadishu that what he found interesting was the exchange rate. He said in Mogadishu the exchange rate was $1 USD = 24,000 - 25000 shillings. In Garowe/Bosaso the Exchange rate was $1 = 40,0000 - 42,000 shillings. That is a huge difference. Which makes sense, the money printing hasn't stopped but there is a point when printing becomes a problem itself. For comparison, in Hargeisa the Exchange rate is $1 = 8500 SL shillings - came down from 11,000 in 2017-2018..

  11. In a statement affirming Ethiopia's rights over its natural resources, Mr. Camay has paved the way for Ethiopia to do the same to the Shebelle River, what its doing to the Nile River. By filling the dam unilaterally without an agreement with all the parties concerned Ethiopia is unlawfully impacting the downstream countries.
  12. Addis Ababa, June 25, 2020 (FBC) – Ambassador of Republic of Somalia to Ethiopia Abdihakim Abdulahi Omar said his country firmly supports successful completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). In an exclusive Interview with FBC, Amassador Abdihakim Abdulahi Omar said GERD is a peaceful project that brings about hopefulness to not only Ethiopia but the whole of the African continent. GERD is nearing to become a pillar for regional economic and social integration among people of the horn, he stressed. The filling of the dam reservoir which starts from upcoming July, 2020 is timely and acceptable for it doesn’t cause any harm to downstream countries, the Ambassador asserted. “Somalia respects the rights of Ethiopia to utilize its natural resources. That is why it rejected the Egypt – Arab league resolution which is against the national interests Ethiopia and the East African Regional at large.”, he noted. Somaliland’s decision to back Ethiopia’s stance on GERD conforms to the truth that African problems must be resolved by Africans, Ambassador Abdihakim added. 17. Back when the Global Financial Crisis hit much of the rest of the world, the Australian economy actually grew its largest ever increase by 6% a year from 2009-2011. At 4 - 5% contraction during the Coronavirus, it is pretty darn good. "At a 4.5 per cent contraction, the expected downturn facing Australia would still be the worst since the 1930s. But compare that to 8.4 per cent in Canada, 12.5 per cent in France or 10.2 per cent in the UK and you can see how well Australia is doing."
