Hey fellow SOLers, I've noticed some benefits for attempting to commit suicide in Xalimos..... I have witnessed two attempted suicides with apparent benefits, first one was my 18 yrs old neighbor couple yrs ago. She was in love with the guy she was seeing and wanted to marry him. He was twenty and their parents thought they were too young and refused to let them get married. Well one summer night the girl drank one gallon of chlorox bleach (not completely sure) and she was found on the bathroom floor unconcious. After she got medical help and recovered she was allowed to marry  The other attempted suicide occured fairly recently: a friend of a friend was dating a guy and he kept getting cold feet in moving their relationship forward or getting married. There were even rumors that he wanted to end their relationship. After an argument she overdosed on bills and him seeing how series she was about him commited to keep the relationship. So, is there really an apparent benefit in attempting suicide in Somalian girls? it is a way of getting attention and showing how serious they are? But we're muslims and i dont think that's a way to show their need for help.

i have tears in my eye, i am so proud of how somalia is rebuilding. the other day i was having an argument w/ my Jamacian friend that was making fun of Somalia 'cos she typed it Somalia in googles and all she got we're starving children and dying women. Wonder why only the most horrible pics made it to the internet? i put her in her place of course using pics from SOL As if Jamaica is any better  , but they did have better pics on the net.

am listening to John Mayer's first album: Room for Squares . I liked his first single : No such thing, so my friend made me the whole cd. I love the whole cd, it is very mellow and different. It difinitely got me through many nights where i had to turn in 10-page papers the next day.

Wow! Thank you so much guys, i truly appreciate all of ur efforts. Baashi, I knew thyroid was related to Qanjir, but like j'maal11 pointed out thyroid gland is not located in our qanjir, so it seems like we call qanjir any gland, there's really no differentiation between different glands. thanks for the visualization J'maal11. Nin_Brown thanks for ur advice, i think i'll make use of it. Saabir thanks for eloquently putting what i was trying to say. But, in somali whenever we think about Qanjir the vision that automically comes to mind is the below the ears. We dont think about the Hunguri, so it will be hard to explain to anyone qanjirka hunguriga. Sue/Msword i never heard of the word fiix. am trying to put that in a sentence but i burst out laughing everything time i try to do it ...but it is all good, u learn something new every day, thanks guys. Now, see if we can come up with the translation for metabolism problems associated with thyroid  One more thing.... u guys know how to translate court "hearing" or appeal "hearing" in somali?
-
i was wondering if u guys could help me out: i need to know what thyroid or thyroid problems mean in somali. i'll appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

the 1st time i became aware it SOL was about two yrs ago, one day my friend suggested that i should check out SOL so i did. And lord behold who's on the main page promoting they're cd....two guys that i went to HS school w/. it was hilarious 'cos one of my gals had a crush on one of them (name w/held) and she thought he was adorable in the pic . i didnt become SOL member until a yr later thought, when i started terribly boring job where i had to entertain myself any means necessary.

Thanks for the replays guys, am glad some of u gals hold the same view as i. but don't feel sorry for yourself and feel all lonely when you realize you made the wrong move. i never said i didnt want get married and have children. i just dont think mariage would suddently make me " a whole". Funnily enough though, I don’t view children in the same way. I look so foreword to having children, but marriage is at the moment somewhat iffy (my view of it), but as they say you can’t put the cart before the horse (or something like that). Rahima, u took the words right out of my mouth that's exactly the way i was feeling when i posted this thread once u enter into a good muslim marriage, u will wonder how u have lived without it Juxa, is this from personal experience or just ur imagination Since this is a thread that encourages us to share our personal views, I'll share mine. To me, marriage is not neccesarily a great thing. I agree with Jasmiine. Marriage is work, and is known to make you often more unhappy than you were before. Why else are the divorce rates so high, even amongst Somali households? And even if there is no divorce, no one can say to me that the majority of Somali marriages are happy, stable constitutions. afkaga caano lagu qabay, u read my mind.

Think that marriage and having kids is just another milestone in ur life. Something u have to do and want get over it as soon as possible, or at least having kids part. My girl friends and i were discussing marriage last night and they were stunned when i told them that "i dont think mariage was going to make me happier or any different just a person who has different responsibilities". So ladies is my idea of marriage something to frown upon? does anyone have similar attitude toward marriage. Getta go........
