  3. Somalia: Puntland government issues statement on misinterpretation of Puntland President's speech 11 Jan 11, 2012 - 10:50:07 AM GAROWE, Somalia Jan 11 2012 (Garowe Online) – The Puntland government issued a statement to clarify a misrepresentation of facts regarding the Puntland government's position on intensifying screening procedures limiting the entry of new Internally Displaced Persons' (IDPs) arrival to Puntland state of Somalia on security grounds, Radio Garowe reports. Local media misinterpreted the Puntland President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole's speech presented at an election anniversary for the incumbent administration held in Bossaso, early this month. In his speech , the President said that the recent exodus of IDPs to Puntland - related to the recent attacks on Al Shabaab positions in southern and south central zones of Somalia- posed a threat to Puntland's internal security. He added that this exodus was another opportunity for Al Shabab to infiltrate secure positions in the Puntland state of Somalia. Speaking to Radio Garowe , Puntland government spokesman Mr. Ahmed Omar Hersi said, “ Previously, the Puntland government had apprehended Al Shabaab agents posing as IDPs and found them guilty for assassinations and attacks on key figures and civilians in cities across Punt land .” “The intensification of entry screening for new arrival IDPs is a precautionary measure that will not affect resident IDPs in Punt land.” The Puntland government spokesman clarified . The intensification of screening procedures comes at a time when Al Shabaab is losing ground in key positions across Southern Somalia. GAROWE ONLINE

  14. What U think about human fossils being found in Somalia? I think it is very likely!!! We live in a region that is known as the cradle of mankind, where everyone goes back to!!! Oldest fossils of human ancestors were found in lake turkana which is right next to a somali region. Same with the Lucy found in the afar region of ethiopia right next to somali region. Interesting thing is they all found these fossils in arid environments identical to somalia. I think it is only common sense that fossils will be found in Somalia also since their both found in kenya and ethiopia that are next door to our country!!!
  15. Evidence for interbreeding with Neanderthals, only Africans pure By R. C. Camphausen May 10, 2010 in Science Leipzig - An international team of scientists have successfully sequenced the Neanderthal genome, and the evidence shows that humans in Europe, Asia and Papua New Guinea carry Neanderthal genes - while African peoples are 100 percent human. An international team led by scientists from the respected Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig have successfully sequenced 65 percent of the Neanderthal genome. It is the first time that the genetic code of an extinct human relative has been decoded, and the present announcement cam after 4 years of diligent study. The results of this study, published Thursday last week, are similar to the findings reported (and foretold) last month here in Digital Journal, but the final publication of this study by researchers Svante Pääbo, Adrian Briggs and colleagues truly shows that years of denial about interbreeding between the two primates should now really come to an end. One of the co-authors of the scientific paper, Adrian Briggs, stated unambiguously that the DNA of "Humans and Neandertals are 99.5 percent identical," as is quoted in the English language section of Der Spiegel. Better yet, and a blow to Caucasian and Asian racists, the comparison of the human and Neanderthal genome makes it clear that it is only Africans who are 100 percent Homo sapiens, while in European (including American and Australian settlers) and Asian populations one can find up to 4 percent DNA stemming from the archaic and often maligned Neanderthal species - a hominid that went extinct more than 20,000 years ago. A graphic designer at the BBC has transformed this information into a surprising graphic everyone should take a look at. Meanwhile, the team keeps working in order to isolate the last 35 percent of the genome as well, and perhaps we'll see even more interesting revelations in the future. Detractors remain, of course, especially since archeologists have until now come to different conclusions and have a different timetable when it comes to human evolution. A New York Times article from May 6 gives voice to these two ways of thinking.

  17. You tell me where you can take a desert that non-existing infrastructure except 1 road and incompleted port and the galkayo airport and turn into powerhouse state in Somalia? Even your clan cannot do that in their respective central regions which is similar in environment to puntland and lacks alot of infrastructure as well. Only Puntland managed to do it. U must give credit where credit is due Professor
  18. Prof.Samatar forgets all-together that my land was totally neglected of infrastructure except one road and a port. Thats all we got. We dont exactly have the most desirable environment either. Its the worst in all of Somalia. Yet today its not only the best state in Somalia its home to largest IDPS outside of mogadishu!!! When you have those Mogadishu guys having all the airports left right and center at guriceel-cadaado-bandiradlay-hamar-bali-dogle-marka-aden abdulle not to mention the ports and the agriculture that can feed 50 million people, they have managed not to do anything with it. As he simply put it. It looks like nuclear bomb dropped on the city!!! Even Somaliland lets not kid ourselves professor these were second and third largest cities in Somalia and were heavily invested into by the siyad government. They pretty much had everything also not as much hamar but alot more then puntland. So the real success story in Somalia is Puntland. Its not the land that makes the ppl, its the ppl that make the land. If u have bright ppl you can turn a desert into an oasis and if u have not so bright ppl u can turn a paradise into hell
  19. I like how said "nuclear bomb" anyways a very interesting speech and he made some valid point that noone even thinks about national matters a case in-hand is when TFG soldiers fought inside themselves which shows clan interests comes first before national interests!!!! I didnt agree with him about how he said "everyone is chasing after gobollo today" what does he want us to do!!! sit by and wait for mogadishu. We tried that for a good 7 years and I know we couldn't wait any longer!!! Galmudug tried and waited up untill 2006 and gave up. Now Azania and Hiiran are fed up
  20. Puntlander, Jowhar? those are not reliable. I want reliable sources people who have guys on the ground like allpuntland, horseed, sbc, puntlandpost, raxanreeb, daljir, voa, bbc. I dont want to hear crap from someone sitting in cafe typing what-ever comes to his mind!!! Secondly I have read alot of news articles that have been fabricated before like amisom taking care of the security of the somalia-conference and sharif even flatly told them "thanks puntland security for doing a great job" in maintaining the security!!! So I can't wait till one of the bigboys like bbc or voa or hiiran report on it then their going to get the all-idaamaale treatment and be exposed for spreading fake news!!! Hell I even checked galgalanews which is very biased to say the least and they dont report any such conflict which im sure they'd be the first to jump on something on like that!!! marka niyahow naga daa sheekada
  21. Please note that garowe is currently building Somalia Largest Medical Institute where my doctors and yours will be trained quite similar to the carmo police academy or GTECH or even the marine institute. One thing is for sure Puntland is all about building state institutions!!!
  22. Opinion: Puntland College makes a difference in Somalia Published March 10, 2011 By Dave Talmage PUNTLAND, Somalia, March 10 -- Here in United States we spend more private and government funds on education than any other country in the world. There are multiple public and private schools for single communities and the educational opportunities seem somewhat endless. Teachers are trained everyday in colleges around the country and most citizens have grown up with access to an education. Though, for many in the developing world finding a school or a formally trained teacher in a city or sometimes-entire country can be nearly impossible. In the Horn of Africa, in one of the most violent failed states of Africa, one territory in Somalia is making efforts to increase the number of formally trained teachers to help educate the youth of Somalia. In the heart of Puntland in the northernmost territory of Somalia sits the Garowe Teachers Education College (GTEC), a place where individuals in Puntland, mainly women, are being formally trained as educators. The initiative, which developed in 2000, was a community response to the poor level of educators in Puntland and all of Somalia. Due to a devastating civil war and extremist groups that have crippled the education system in most of Somalia, the country is left with very few formal schools and formally educated teachers. Today in southern Somalia there is still an absence of any real teaching initiatives. Much of the region is controlled by terrorist organizations like Al-Shabaab. The current conflicts mixed with a devastating civil war and these local extremist groups have made progress impossible for a successful education infrastructure in parts of Somalia. But in northern Somalia the territory of Puntland has experienced fewer acts violence and oppression over the past decade than most of the country. Today the GTEC looks to help reverse the current education situation in all of Somalia. Its aim is to educate the youth and provide easy access and formal training to individuals. These educators can then go out and teach in schools around Somalia in hopes to improve the educational situation in Somalia and one day help make a good education more easily available throughout the country. The goal of GTEC is simple. To provide individuals improved access to quality primary education. They do this by training individuals as qualified teachers with the skills needed to meet the ever-growing demands of education. In a broader sense the GTEC is aiming not only to help educate the Puntland territory but aims to help the overall state of education in all of Somalia. The Garowe Teachers Education College has been running since 2005 and has since graduated hundreds of formally trained teachers. It was an initiative that started in 2000 with assistance from the DIAKONIA World Federation. In 2007 the first cluster of student teachers were able to graduate with their degrees from the Garowe Teacher’s Education College (GTEC). Their goal was to educate the young children of Somalia. Since then the GTEC has continued to graduate and increase more qualified teachers to go out and educate the youth of Somalia. In the upcoming year another graduating class looks to go out and continue the work of those who have graduated before them. The college hopes that through education and their new graduates they can “ease ignorance’ in Somalia.
