  1. I was given two names when I was born. Alexandru (prounounced aleksandru) after my grandfather, meaning "defender of men" which kinda fits. And Iustinian (ioo-stee-nyan)which means "upright, righteous" which doesn't really fit lol.
  2. It all depends on what you do at uni, and MOST IMPORTANTLY on who you know.
  3. no more graceful gaze lol that thing must weigh a ton
  4. Yo guys remember that first picture? I found another one like that on Associated Press. Here's our favorite fisherman again, this time with a huge-*** snapper:
  5. I have a question though. If the implementation of Shari3a is a success, how will it work for nomads? Will there be some sort of mobile courts to serve those who move their camels seasonally? Or will the herders have to come to a town to consult a court?
  6. I think there should be something done about firearms, maybe like one of those laws in the Wild West, where you couldn't walk around town with your guns. Maybe just stash em all in the ground and take em out in cases of national emergency (like an invasion). While I realize this is highly idealistic, imagine a Somalia with no AKs, only spears. Just like old times. Imagine how many lives would be saved. If you have a dispute with your neighbor, instead of spraying everyone with your machine gun, BE A MAN and stab him with your spear or knife. Any wimp can squeeze a trigger, believe me, but it takes a real man to break a spear in somebody's spine. I think that would help curb violence.
  7. Martin Orwin - Colloquial Somali It's a little treasure, this book
  8. I have in my room a Bible in my language and a Qur'An in Arabic and Somali, side by side.
  9. I don't think they do it on purpose. They do it out of ignorance.
  10. Never said that's what motivates me, it's just part of me.

  12. Indhoos, I've read and learned about both religions, believe me, but still I stand by my faith. It's a cultural thing. Islam just isn't compatible with my culture. We are brought up drinking, and drinking is in every aspect of our lives from parties to negotiating, to just sitting out in the street in the afternoon. Distilling strong alcohol is an art passed down from generation to generation and if I let that disappear from my life, it would change who I am, it would change my identity. I know a lot of Muslims who drink, but if I were to become one I wouldn't allow myself to drink. What's the point in converting to Islam if you don't want to be a very pious man? Also, sexual norms are pretty lax in my country (I'm sure you've heard rumors of Romanian women) and I could never become a respectful gentleman who only has eyes for his wife. That being said, I still pray every night and I believe in God, and hope to see one day those who aren't here anymore. I know some of you think God will treat me differently because I'm not a Muslim, and that's OK because there's some Christians who believe the same about you. But it doesn't mean much to me. I believe all good men will wind up in the same place. Even heathens, I think, they believe in God even if they don't know it. They feel love (for their children, for their mothers, for those around them), and God is love. Me, I would be honored to die amongst Somalis, amongst Palestinians, amongst people fighting for their survival against all odds. But even fighting for Muslims, I'll die a Christian. And maybe the world will remember me as a moderately extremist Christian Islamist
  13. I picked shabeel because the leopard is my favorite animal lol Some of my friends ask me if I thought about converting. I tell them that, although I love Islam, I don't believe in converting. I was born Christian and I'll die that way. But we'll wind up in the same place anyway incha'allah
  14. lol time for shabaab to lay down the AK and pick up the shovel
  15. Well in remote, landlocked villages what you would do is dig a huge septic tank for the whole village, and every house would have its plumbing linked to it. So all the waste goes into a big pit below or next to the village. When it starts filling up, trucks come, suck it all up and take it to a chemical station in town to separate water from...well, waste and maybe keep the solid waste as fertilizer. As for towns settled on rivers or on the seaside (or both), you would have a big sewage system which would take all the used water & waste from houses, pass it through a chemical station for treatment and then flush it into the river/sea.
  16. Just because there's a couple of loose screws in al-shabaab who say they'll keep fighting doesn't mean al-shabaab as a whole wants to fight on. You guys are talking as if shabaab is one living body when in fact it's a pretty loose coalition of fighters. I believe that most of shabaab would lay down their weapons, but certain groups such as ahlu sunna keep trying to challenge them. As for spilling the blood of Somalis, I'm sorry and it's a tragedy, but let's face it - that's what happens in insurgencies. When Algeria fought for its independence, Algerians killed some of their own people along with the French. When Iraqis fought against the Americans, many innocent Iraqis had to die also. War is a nasty process. A lot of blood has to flow on all sides before something is achieved. It's just the way it is.
  17. Do houses in major cities (still) have plumbing? How much do you reckon it would cost to install plumbing & sewage systems in all moderately populated towns in Somalia?
  18. you should be thankful that there are some people who love Somalia enough to give their lives for a country which isn't even theirs. Shabaab has always had foreign fighters, ever since Ethiopia invaded. This is far from being a new development
