And yet it describes perfectly the nature of groups such as Shabaab and the nature of certain posters on this forum. If you're a loud mouthed person who is asking for people to be stoned, you are most likely a hypocrite. Period.

It's nauseating how these hypocrites would do anything to defend Shabaab despite their suicide bombings against fellow Somalis. Why don't you go live under their rule? Better yet, why don't you grow a set of balls and join them? Silly armchair warriors.

From my personal experience, the "literalists" or "hardliners" or whatever you wish to call them are big HYPOCRITES who are trying to compensate for a sinful past. Former drunkards and drug-addicts who hit themselves in the head with a cauldron to get a "rug mark", who bully people around, and who grow impressive beards to seem pious. Just like Shabaab is composed of young men who used to be child soldiers who killed, looted and raped everything they came across.

Also, the Prophet PBUH lived in 6-7th century Arabia. Which is quite different from many Muslim countries today, and is different from Somalia. Therefore, some of the punishments applied by the Prophet PBUH, but not prescribed by the Qur'An, may not be appropriate for all societies and all times. They must have had their role in 7th century Arabia, but they don't today.
