Seemed like a good idea at the time. Maybe if you wean the people off foreign aid, they won't need it anymore. But that would mean a complete overhaul of local farming, to be self-sustaining AND feed all the people that ran away from their homes. There's been a significant number of droughts and crop failures these past years, so it's a very bad time to overburden local farmers. Could an overhaul be done in the midst of a civil war? Given the hardy character of Somalis, it's possible, but it would take years. The smart thing to do is FIRST build sustainable & sustaining farming, THEN chase out the WFP. Chasing the WFP out now sounds like a terrible plan. Is Shabaab going to feed these people now with donations from Tora Bora?

Everyone knows the US isn't acting in the interest of the Somali people. But what about Shabaab forbidding WFP imports in their areas? Shabaab is supposed to be acting in the interest of the Somali people. Or at least they were back when I supported them in '07. Now they act in the interest of Bin Laden.

I agree with Ibti. If this woman isn't your sister, or someone you grew up with, then don't get involved. You'd be surprised at how easily she can turn on you, and blame you for everything. Wicked love such as this will consume anyone who stands in its path.
