[/in one of his notes the snipper said that he WAS indeed GOD! Subxan Allah... You don't have to be a rocket scientist to work out that is not an islamic ideal. But then again, people are rather selective about what they choose to hear with regards to Islam. It is really funny. When Isreal brutalises the Palestinians.. it is not about religion. When the IRA place bombs killing innocent civilians.... it is not about religion. When Bush wages war on practicly every vulnerable 'muslim' state ... it is not about religion. I can go on and on.... if te culprit is not muslim .. his/her religion is not important. But if an Arab/africa/Asian (anyone affliated with the muslim religion) as much as expresses dislike to a western state..ideal or Whatever. It is about the 'fanatic' Islamic ideology. it seems to me that Muslims are never granted the right to individualism! now tell me .... What am I missing? QUOTE] Steve, tell us, What are we missing? thanks ameenah.

Exactly, What is a Dowry? I though dowry was something of a promise, nothing more. Like you will pay your wife this amount if there is a divorce, or just later in life. I don't think you to have come up with the money now, like during the wedding process. I could be wrong. You can clarify. But if you talking about soori, the money you pay to the females father or uncles at the wedding ceremony, thats different, but i don't think any family would ask for $10,000 of this money. its usually estimation of your own, again i could be wrong here. Peace

Are Somalis a burden to the system everywhere?
Dhimbil replied to Libaax-Sankataabte's topic in General
I fail to see the humor in this article, i know bigotry when i see it, if you been to places like California, Taxes, New York etc, large part of the populations in these cities, citizens & immigrants alike are on gov assistance and they telling us somalis are highest % of immigrant on welfare? i doubt. These pple had welfare problems for a century, trying to reform the welfare system decade after decade, and nothing worked, so the problem is not somalis. I can't believe our own pple are buying into the lies, but i guess its true, if a lie is told enough times it becomes the truth. Also if anyone has "Gimme some" mentality is the capitalist society we live in today, nothing particular to somalis Wiseman never generalizes... -
Nomads Libya changed it's mind, they are back with the arab league.

shujui-1 so you agree developing WMD is not the best option. That was my only point. peace.
-
Sup Shujui Point well taken, but i am afraid by being so content on one country, you make it seem like rest of the world leaders are angels with stainless shirts. There are ruthless leaders around the world that cause genocide against their own people and am sure if they had the capabilities would do the same wordlwide. Also if one of these muslim nations particularly arabs got WMD in their hand, they are more likely to use against their own people or another muslim nation than any western country, because westerners would have manipulated their minds. Even our country you think if we had WMD capabilities before the civil war they would have waited until we went war with another country? i doubt, they would have used against each other long ago. peace.
-
shujui . good point sxb, but personaly, they are both evil meaning U.S gov and North Korea however i rather see the lesser evil have more power than the other which in this case, i prefer the U.S to have it if anybody is going to. i am just not confortable with every country having WMD. peace

Are Somalis a burden to the system everywhere?
Dhimbil replied to Libaax-Sankataabte's topic in General
Hold up.... Somalis are becoming the poster child for immigrant communities who use the system, but i thought the system was there for people in need? and it should be. Families who are on welfare are under extreme circumstantces and some times below poverty level. They hardly get by with welfare let alone send money back home. The $7million is coming from hard working somalis who work 12-18 hrs a day to make ends meet than send some to their families, they make it seem as though we should be a shame of sending money, why should we? Also who are the tax payers, helloooo that includes somalis too, who is receiving our tax money? it should go to our families who are in need, and European-Americans need to deal with it. Every immigrant community that resettled in the states had to overcome some form of racist resistance from existing community and somalis are no exception. Every time you read a newspaper there is something negative about somalis, they are terorrist, aids infected, diabetic, drug addicts(khat)and so forth. Let them talk all they want, we know who we are and that is all that matters. hell with them! peace. -

MODESTO, Calif. (Reuters) - A California woman who allegedly flew into a rage and bit her husband repeatedly after he refused to have sex with her is being held on charges that police say may eventually include murder. Modesto police said that Kelli Pratt, 45, attacked her 65-year-old husband Arthur on Oct. 7, holding him down and biting him some 20 times after a dispute over sex. "Most of the bites were confined to his arm and his abdomen and a few were very deep with major tissue damage," Sgt. Al Carter of the Modesto police told a television news reporter Thursday. The Modesto Bee newspaper reported that Arthur Pratt, whose skin was covered with more than 20 deep tooth marks, died Sunday at a local hospital and that the local forensic pathologist believes the bites are the likely cause of death. "He (the husband) was able to dial 911 (emergency) that night," Carter told the newspaper. "We have a tape recording of him screaming while she was biting him. When officers arrived, he was screaming that he'd been assaulted. She fought with the officers and tried to bite them, too." Arthur Pratt had a history of medical problems including diabetes, heart and circulation problems. An official ruling on the possible homicide charge is awaiting toxicology tests, which could determine whether the bites caused an infection that proved fatal, the Bee said. Carter said police were already persuaded that "his death was a direct result of being bitten." "I've seen cases where dogs have bitten kids, and blood loss or infection led to death," Carter said. "I've never heard of anyone being bitten to death (by a human) before." Kelli Pratt is currently being held in Modesto, about 90 miles east of San Francisco, on charges of elder abuse, domestic violence and assault on a police officer. ....What is the world coming to ?...lol

"Taken from ABC_Nightline" "North Korea has acknowledged it has a nuclear weapons program. This complicates everything. The administration has indicated it wants to try to resolve this peacefully, and is consulting with other nations in the region. At the same time, the United States is heading for war with Iraq because it thinks Baghdad may develop nuclear weapons in the near future". Your thoughts on this news?

By Khalid Baig Imam Malik bin Anas (b. 93 AH, d. 179 AH) was one of the greatest Islamic scholars of all times. Among his 1300 disciples were people from all walks of life; rulers, judges, historians, Sufis, poets, and scholars of Qur'an, Hadith, and Fiqh. The Khalifah attended his class as an ordinary student along with others. In the best traditions of this Ummah Imam Malik considered his knowledge as a trust. When he knew something to be right or wrong, no intimidation could stop him from declaring so. It was his fatwa that divorce given under compulsion is invalid, that earned him the wrath of the ruler (as it implied that pledge of allegiance given under compulsion was also invalid). He was punished with lashes and at every strike he said, "I am Malik bin Anas and I declare that divorce given under compulsion is invalid." Yet it was the same Imam Malik who was more likely to say "la adree" (I don't know) or "la ahsin" (I don't know it very well) in response to the constant flow of queries directed toward him. Once a person approached him and told him that he had come from Marrakesh --- after a six month journey --- only to ask a question. "My people back home are waiting for your answer," he said. After hearing the question Imam Malik replied, "Please tell your people that I do not know the answer to your question." In one case he was asked forty-eight questions and in response to thirty-two of them he said, "I don't know." It was commonly said that if somebody wrote down Imam Malik's answers to questions, he could easily fill pages with "I don't know" before writing a real answer. The reason for this extraordinary care was nothing but a deep sense of accountability before Allah. It was the caution of a person who was standing between Hell and Heaven, fearful that one wrong step could lead him to the former. "Before you answer a question about religious law, visualize that you are standing at the gates of Hell and Heaven," he used to advise others. Of course, he was not alone. Ibn Jareej used to attend the majlis (sitting) of Abdullah ibn Umar, Radi-Allahu anhuma. "In answer to more than half the questions he used to say I don't know." Ibn Abi Layla saw 120 Sahaba (companions). "Whenever one of them was asked a question he wished that someone else would answer it." Nor was this caution restricted to Fiqh (Islamic Law). In interpreting the Qur'an or the Hadith, they exercised same care. Imam Muslim whose Sahih Muslim is unanimously considered second of the two most authentic collections of Hadith, had set for himself only the task of Hadith collection leaving the job of interpreting them to others. He was so concerned about this that he did not even divide the book into chapters for such classification would amount to interpretation. They were the authoritative source on Islamic teachings, having devoted their lives to learning and practicing them. They knew very well the tremendous burden inherent in a statement that begins "Allah says", or "The Prophet, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, says". For here stating something that is not so means that a person is attributing something to Allah or the Prophet, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, that is not true. What can be a greater sin than that! They always remembered that it is Haram to give fatwa without knowledge. They always remembered the Hadith, "Whoever interprets the Qur'an without knowledge should make his abode in Hell." Fast forward to today and you are in a totally different world. Across the Muslim world today there are innumerable "experts" who are willing to interpret the Qur'an and Hadith, give fatwas, even do Ijtihad --- all without the benefit of even the minimum religious education and training. If such a person is a good writer or speaker that is qualification enough. For the audiences today readily confuse eloquence with scholarship. If the "expert" also carries the magic title "Dr." that certainly fills any gaps in his authority. It does not matter whether his educational achievement maybe in gynecology or business administration, journalism or nuclear science, physics or animal husbandry. The results have been disastrous. The vast confusion and ignorance of even elementary subjects in religious teachings among the seemingly "educated" classes today is unprecedented. Today one can find all sorts of un-Islamic ideas and practices, conjectures, whims, and desires finding approval in the "Ijtihaddom" that has been concocted. What is more we also make a virtue out of this catastrophe by bragging that we have broken the "shackles of blind following" and opened direct access to the original sources of Islamic teachings. But no amount of bragging can hide the fact that this is the equivalent of allowing unlicensed and untrained people to practice medicine. Although in this case the resulting death and injury is not physical and is therefore less visible. The reasons for this malaise are complex but two stand out. First, the schooling of our "educated" people included very little or none of Islamic education. Plainly, we do not know and we do not know that we do not know. Second, many of us harbor great mistrust of those who have received formal Islamic education. In turn this is also based on ignorance of what constitutes such education. It is a distant world, a black box, and all we know is that there is something wrong with it. For a change let us visit a darul-uloom where they are screening candidates for admission to the next ifta class. The top scorers from the regular alim course were given a test and just the top ten scorers from the test will be brought for interview. They are tested not only for their knowledge of Arabic and religious texts but also their ability to understand complex real life situations and to communicate well. Once they graduate, they will do an internship for years under qualified and experienced muftis. But even the best of their teachers will consult others when they face a difficult issue. After exercising the best of caution they will learn to say "Allah knows best" at the end of their answers. It is not to say that the decline of Muslim political power and the general decline of Muslim civilization has had no effect on this area of activity or our darul-iftas are running problem free. But can anyone in all honesty declare that an alternative that misses each and everyone of these features is better? There is a famous saying in Urdu. "A pseudo doctor is danger to life. A pseudo religious scholar is danger to faith." Do we know the danger? Taken from : http://albalagh.net/food_for_thought/fatwa.shtml
