Duke, i didn't say land-mass bro check my post at the beginning. I said south mudug is bigger in land-mass, however not population. Because galkacyo and goldogob are the biggest cities of the town. Whilst if u do google earth check on harardheere and hobyo, you will see it has no more then 200 homes. So south mudug has the land-mass yes and I didn't dispute that. However it doesn't have the population.

Federalism is failure in Ethiopia because they were never federal to begin with in history. Somalis are one race of people(somalid race) however of multiple of clans/tribes, similar to the u.k who are of one race (anglo saxon) of multiple tribes such as english, welsh, irish, and scottish and formed a federal nation with deregulated powers in autonomous states. Somalis enjoy the benefit of having historical success with federalism because that is how our fathers lived and it proved successful and was a traditional form of governance. At the same time we have similar example of the U.K which a modern state that has also enjoyed success with federalism. Ethiopia lacks this historical success with federalism, it is new thing for them. Plus the different races inside of ethiopia ranging from cushitic, semetic, and nilotic compound the problem to it's failure. Somalia Nor The U.K have these problems Sir. Secondly I never said Ethiopia is a democracy, but it's "trying" to be one, as evident from yesterday news on Reuters and onlf should take advantage of this. The political strategy I mentioned in my opening post for onlf to financially back and campaign for an oromo man to lead the nation. This is because Ethiopia needs to use something to show the world it truly has emerged as a democracy and what better way to prove to the world they are democracy then have an oromo man lead the nation. This will send a huge bonus point to Ethiopia being viewed as a democratic state and the ONLF should be focusing their efforts on political strategies such as this or maybe something else rather then direct military conflict with one of the biggest armies in africa. 08:56 November 3rd, 2009 Do Ethiopia’s politicians mean it on democracy? Posted by: Barry Malone On the evening of the 20th of March 1878, Ethiopia’s two great rivals, Emperors Yohannes IV and Menelik II, came face-to-face to thrash out their differences. As the two men met for the first time, traditional Ethiopian singers are said to have sang “A road that is perilous is far / you have to climb and then descend.” Ethiopia’s journey since then has certainly been perilous. It has been marked by great heights like the defeat of Italy’s colonialist army at the battle of Adwa in 1895. And devastating lows such as the 1984 famine that killed more than 1 million people and brought the country long-lasting notoriety. The huge nation is again heading into interesting times. This week the government of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi agreed a code of conduct for next May’s national elections with three opposition parties — two of which are dismissed by opponents as ruling party satellites. But the biggest opposition force, a coalition of eight parties called Medrek (the Forum), did not participate in the negotiations despite repeated invitations. Medrek said issues including reform of the national electoral board and access to the media were left out. But some Ethiopians suspect that opposition leaders just can’t stand the thought of sitting down with government negotiators. And a lot of the opposition parties seem to despise each other, too. Ethiopian politicians love to talk about democracy. It’s presented as the ultimate political goal for a country that has never had a peaceful transition of power. The government talks about democracy. But is routinely accused of harassment and intimidation. Opposition parties talk about democracy. But most of them won’t even try to talk to those in power about how to make it a reality. And they all disagree on how close they are to finally achieving it. “Ethiopia believes it is an emerging democracy,” the government’s head of information Bereket Simon told me this week. “We cannot say we have perfect governance yet. But, on balance, we are moving forward.” Yet the opposition says there is no democracy at all and accuses the government of using the code of conduct negotiations to hoodwink the West — on which it still relies for huge amounts of humanitarian aid. Ethiopia’s last national elections in 2005 ended in disaster when a previous opposition coalition said the government fixed its victory and street violence broke out in the capital Addis Ababa in which almost 200 protesters were killed. Many Ethiopians tell me they were so disheartened by that experience that they have lost interest in voting. 2005 also entrenched extremism on both sides. Some diplomats in Addis Ababa are putting pressure on Medrek to talk to the government, telling its leaders they believe Meles is acting in good faith. And the government says Medrek can still get involved in ongoing talks. So, no matter how bitter the rivalry, why haven’t Ethiopia’s main powerbrokers today been able to talk to each other as happened more than a century ago? Who’s right about how close Ethiopia is to democracy? How can a poor country secure a prosperous future? What are the solutions? Is democracy even one of them?

This kid is delusional he thinks what daddy and mommy tell him is true. My friend step out in the real world, you will be in for rude suprise. I can gurantee you that much. Somaliland won't ever be indepedent, it won't be tolerated. Marka ha ka sugin inay somalia ama calamka aqoonsato meeshasi because international community always consider vulnerable minorities first. So chase fake dreams as you have been for 17 years, it's up to you. However Puntland and Responsible regions like djibouti and ethiopia are showing the world not only are well self-sufficient but we regional leaders and get involved in finding solutions. Its called political maturity and it goes a long way in respect of getting friends in high places.
-
Xaaji, Sorry my friend you have no place to be dictating what you want or don't. Their is vulnerable minority groups in awdal, ssc who can not and will not be put in 80% snm enclave. Somalis wont tolerate and the wider international community won't. The sooner you understand this the better.
-
nuune, koley niin reer-afgoyi kuguma amiin doona dhulkiisa. That is raw facts sxb. Why bother chasing fake dreams that will never be realized? over 20 reconciliation meetings failed because of chasing the impossible. It's time to leave each to his own land and his people welfare. Cut your losses in other words and take care of your people, after-all you won't trust anyone else to. How many federal states their will be. Probably 6 states. Puntland, Galmudug, Somaliland, benadir-land, jubbaland, asal-land (bay and bakool). Something similar to that. It will be high-level confederation of related tribes. Not sub-sub clan states. The fine tuning of the federalism will see which is the best method. An 18 state government is not an ideal method such as the united states model because in somalia's states their are many that shared with various clans who will most likely not get along. The cancer we have is qabil, that is what needs to be cured my friend, not ignored or pushed to side like it don't exist.
-
Nuune, The Kingdom of Scotland and the Kingdom of England (which included Wales) had been under the same monarchy, Both kingdoms had alot in common and became the Kingdom of Great Britain in 1707. Ireland had been effectively ruled as an English colony for centuries and in 1801, Ireland joined the union creating the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, which lasted until 1921. Those are the facts. Kingdoms, For example north-east sultanates was a kingdom, so was makhir. And a colony such as 5th region of ethiopia. They are all inhabited by somalis yet different clans be it the north-east, makhir, hirab, onlf (colony). This is exactly the same scenario for the U.K the scottish people share a ANGLO-SAXON race with english, irish, welsh. However the the scottish are a tribe of anglo-saxons. Somalis are a race my friend, go check the races of africa and we are called "somaliod". The somaliod race is further divided into clans/tribes. Just like the anglo-saxons are divided into clans or tribes such as scottish, english, welsh, and irish. These entities have proven sucessful in merging it into a de-centralized federal kingdom of states and has proven to be modern success in the modern world. Marka "Qabil qaran wuu noqta" It happened in the past such as our own history in somalia and it has happened in modern history such as the U.K
-
A.T, The world has endorsed the path somalis will take and it is federal path. This maintains the unity yet de-centralizes power. This system has proven to work for our ancestors for centuries such as makhir, north-east, hiraab, adal, etc who were all federal states and took care of their own affairs at the local level for their clan-men. No more chasing after foreign systems be it centralism, separatism, or even theocracies. Somalis need to go back to their roots and to the systems that indeed worked, not follow the systems that indeed failed (colonial). Plus if people think "qabil qaran ma noqto" then they need to explain how a first world country such as the u.k was formed through welsh tribe, english tribe, scottish tribe, and irish tribe? These are tribes and they formed a "qaran". So it's possible and has worked in the modern world also, on top of that we have our history which proves it worked for our fathers. This is the way somalis are going, come hell or high-water really.

Jabhad, Everyone in Africa knows ethiopia is trying to head towards a democracy, so they can continue to get economic aid from the western world. All i am saying is take advantage of it.

Infact the oldest human fossil is found all around the ethiopian region in particular omo-river, afar territory and even laka turkana. You can read about the oldest human fossil. 195,000 years old. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2005/02/0216_050216_omo.html human being ancestors is about 3.2 million years old. Which can be read here. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2009/10/091001-oldest-human-skeleton-ardi-missing-link-chimp s-ardipithecus-ramidus.html If their finding it in kenya and ethiopia, imagine what somalia will hold also. If only the war ended and institutions were build to explore this un-explored subject in somalia.
-
Died serving his nation? Lol!!! If that is the case, then you better tell hargeisa that jijigga, gashamo and alot of areas in ethiopia used to be once apart of "british-somaliland protectorate". Lol. Anyways I am not going to totally dissect The man had no business being there. Anyways illahi ha u naxaristo. I will let the dead rest in peace, but don't use the dead as a propaganda tool because the counter-rebuttal will be applied just as swiftly to debunk your pre-posterous claims and shown to be a liar.

This is interesting topic and please keep clan-politics to the side and argue on benefit and failures of this system for somalia. The benefits I see of federalism are. 1. Each state can be ruled by it's own tribe and maintain it's own tribal affairs. Just similiar to the way somalis have always been with clan-territory and clan rule. Examples such as makhir and north-east sultanates. 2. 1 person or region will not be given central control of somali affairs. This centralism flavor was forced upon Somalis by colonizers and I believe this was 1 of the many factors into leading into the clan-suspicions, instability, and finally full blown civil war. 3. Federal option de-regulates wealth of the nation at state/tribal level. Each clan can focus on what priority is required for his or her people. For example a state government in Bari will not necessary have the same policies or goals as someone in shabelle. Due to different climate and geographical positions. The state government in shabelle might invest into agriculture programs and jobs, while the bari state government will invest into Fishery sector. 4. Clan-Suspicions will be lessened because people will have their own clan controlling their affairs and not someone else from distant clan. 5. Competition will increase between states as they try to provide better infrastructure to their constituency. 6. The federal government will be more enpowered from local competition of states and will have a larger economic GDP. 7. The federalism will continue to remain somalia united which majority of somalis want to see. 8. It is internationally endorsed by world superpowers and regional watch-dogs. 9. A kid in shabelle won't have to worry about getting secondary level education in hamar anymore, or job, or electricity, or health surgery as this will be provided to him within his own locale by his own state government. 10. Federalism has proven to work for hundreds of years because somalis lived in this de-centralised mode of life of clan-rule and clan-territory and it's proven successful. Where-as centralism has proven un-sucessful and was inplanted upon nomads by colonizers that didn't care for the local structures in place. 11. Finally the lie of building a government based on tribe won't work line is cheap lines by colonized minds. Tribe does work, it worked for our fathers for hundreds of years such as north-east sultanates, makhir, hirab, ******, etc. why can't it work today? And not only that but it's proven to be successful, YET alot of people still chase after failed systems of colonizers. It shocks me to disbelief. Even the colonizer you so chase after is based on tribe. Look at the U.K it is based on scottish tribe, irish tribe, welsh tribe, and english tribe under federal de-centralised unity called the u.k. So even the colonizer policies you so care for is still based on tribe, therefore that line of "qabil qaran ma noqta" total Hogwash as far as im concerned.

Ilka-Dahble that is why puntland admin has not been as fast to responding to the pirates. Because these peoplea are not affecting the locals in direct way. But once the locals are affected in a direct way, watch them get their act together because this can lead to clan war-fare if people find out their clans-people have been getting killed. So Pirates might be a huge international thing, but as for the ground it is not affecting people like shabab who go around beheading, raping, and looting locals. That is the big difference many somalis dont see
-
Ilka-Dahable it is bit hard to criticize the pirates because they are not going around puntland streets raping and killing or looting local properties. Nor have they attempted to hijack Puntland admin as they strictly stay out of politics. Anyways The pirates are concern but it's not as a big concern as shabab as these people actually harm locals.
-
Zack. But didn't you hear what i said. Proper calculation is 60% lakin we can't say 40% is non-puntland because bro go to google earth and see the size of harar-dheere and hobyo wa tuuloyin with no more then 200 homes a piece. That is why I said 80%
-
Bossaso admin is quick to respond to security concerns that may impact on the local civilian lives. These al-shabab related loonies are detained and sentenced and will send a strong warning to trouble-makers who dare jepordize Bossaso peace and stability, they will not get away with it and will be apprehended, named and pictured and shamed and then sentenced.
-
Miskin do the percentage. Mudug comprises 5 towns. 3 are puntland. 2 are not. Formula. (3/5) X 100 = 80%. Not to mention the fact, Just step onto google earth and have a look at the density of hobyo and harardheere and you will see it's not very dense at all.

Ok I been off to do a bit of researching and found that the Galmudug Govt website is continuing to spread mis-information at an OFFICIAL level. This sort of propaganda needs to be stopped and is definitely unhealthy. Here is a small piece from the Galmudug Govt website. In terms of landmass, Mudug was the largest region in the country before M.S. Barre’s military regime curved out Galgadud from it. Later on, the people in the northern part (a very small portion) decided to secede and join their kin brothers in the North East (formally ******tenia) and together formed their own administration, which they named: Puntland State. The people of the northern portion did so without consulting or even informing the cousins in the south. Consequently, the bulk of the region (de-facto and de-jure the real Mudug region) was left out without any sort of administration and the international community conveniently dubbed it as South Mudug to distinguish it from the northern portion. It is precisely this so-called South Mudug that finally became Galmudug State when its people, after so many years and just as late as August 2006, have decided to establish their own administration and named it Galmudug State. Interestingly enough, despite all the mutilations mentioned above, the Galmudug region (South Mudug) still remains to be one of the largest regions in the Nation. However, most unfortunately it remained without any administration until as late as August 2006 when the people (4 clans) in a General Conference held in Galkayo (July-August 2006) finally decided, just like their cousins to the North, to establish their own administration, which they appropriately named: Galmudug State. Source: http://govgalmudug.com/press10674.html I bolded out the necessary parts which I personally think are grossly propaganda and stirring up mis-information. Firstly they call north-mudug a small region, while the rest of mudug is the largest region. In terms of land-size they are right, in terms of population they are wrong. Mudug is 5 districts. 1. Galkaio (Capital) 2. Goldogob (Second largest town) 3. Jerriban 4. Hobyo 5. Harardheere That is the official mudug endorsed by the previous somalia government and the international community. 3 out 5 of those districts are Puntland. That is 80% stakehold. Whilst the remaining 20% are not Namely Hobyo and Harardheere. In terms of population non puntland residents are only 10-15% at most whilst the remaining majority is Puntland. Because hobyo and harardheere which can be observed from google-earth has like 500 homes at tops.lol. So the Galmudug Govt needs to think before making such baseless claims. Second point I want to refute is they mis-informly say that their north-mudug residents seceded from the rest of mudug without informing their south mudug counter-part. Firstly Puntland never seceded. It created regional state for people who were willing to join it. The south mudug people were kept in the loop and even sent an invitation to join their consultation period which is evident from interpeace endorsed report "The search for peace bottom-up approach" published by PDRC of Puntland. Here is quote from their report. There were no expectations that the (USC) communities of south Mudug would participate, as Abdulahi Yusuf later noted in his inaugural speech to the Puntland parliament48 : after the Mudug Peace Agreement of 1993, the community of South Mudug was invited at various times to join the process of regional institution building in Mudug region but they refused to do so…and failed to respond to our brotherly and good neighbourly invitations. In the interests of greater regional development, North Mudug decided to be part of the State of Puntland. Source: http://www.interpeace.org/images/pdf/the_search_for_peace_pdrc.pdf As all can see the south mudug constiuents who are indeed the minority of mudug and not the other way around as they suggest on their govt website was invited to attend the consultative period of the creation of Puntland however refused the good will gestured to them by the peace-loving people of Puntland. This report was generated by PDRC a well respected institution in Puntland and on top of that endorsed by Interpeace. So any issues of validity will also need to question interpeace standing within the world community, which I find any thinking person will not dare.

To my onlf brothers located in ethiopia I personally can understand your frustrations with ethiopia and do not oppose if you want to become a separate state. However what I do oppose and a general consensus of the international world opposes is using a GUN to achieve your objective. This armed resistance type will not work my friend, look at palestine fighting for 70 years yet they have been hurt the most from this fruitless armed ambition. Palestine will not be free through Armed Resistance but peace-accords (diplomacy). So don't you see people who have been fighting a-lot longer then the onlf need to resort to diplomacy in order to achieve what they want? Put down the Gun and use diplomacy to achieve what you want. Sure ethiopia might not do a peace-deal with anyone, however use more peaceful tactics that are more realistic in order to achieve your long-term goals. A good tactic will be to fund an "oromo" person to become a candidate for the highest office in addis ababa. Use slogans and cheers such as "oromos are the majority" of ethiopia and deserve to rule. Lobby hard for them and provide the respective candidate offices and bases through-out ethiopia so he can get to know the people. Use the title of "democracy" to sway the hearts and minds of the international community in order to get this candidate elected. Once you achieve that and this person is elected he will give you a peaceful separation from the state and you become indepedent something the onlf people will need to keep low-profile until he actually gets into office. This is alot more realistic then say fighting one of the strongest armies in Africa. Their reserve base is 185,000. Can you imagine the odds? Even when siyad barre had more modern weapons then ethiopia he never succeeded in defeating them. So my advice is to stop whining about Puntland or anywhere else, but change your tactics from armed resistance to something more acceptable in today's world. Noone in the world wants to see an armed resistance sxb, because this will lead to a precedent of armed resistance everywhere. Imagine if you are allowed to get what you want because you pick up gun. That means if I don't like obama I will pick up a gun. This is the sort of precedent armed resistances send and that is why noone in the world deals with them. Today it is your people who are suffering more then anyone else. Sure maybe you killed 5000 ethiopians since 94 till today, however you lost 100 000 through starvation, disease, or a bullet not to mention the displacement issue. Still at the end of the day you will become the loser. Puntland can not deal with an armed resistance, it is against the state policy, how can it claim to be moving into a democracy yet allowing terrorists or rebels to use its region as base for armed smuggling or training? Puntland has to look out for the welfare of it's people first. Sure they can allow onlf to operate in it's territories, but this can also mean that ethiopia attacks it's people because of this. So who does puntland choose the ONLF? or Its People? Obviously it has to choose it's people first. The onlf people who are displaced are welcome to live in Puntland and work there with no trouble. However the armed resistance type are not welcome. If the ONLF armed rebels want a place of refuge for their people who are displaced, Puntland is more then open for them. However if they want to be using Puntland to smuggle in arms or things that are external to it's state then your not welcome. As for sending the rebels back to ethiopia, This issue is not clear as of yet because it is against international bill of rights to send the persecuted to places of persecution. I support the method of prosecuting and sentencing the rebels within puntland after-all they committed the crime in it's juristiction. So the controversy of sending onlf over to ethiopia is not clear one, alot of media outlets are reporting it, however i listened to the minister of interior affairs Gen. Ilkajir on bbc and he said that noone was sent over and they will be prosecuted and sentenced in puntland. I support that method. If you don't then that is up to you and you are only thinking about your own onlf agenda and not the concerns of the people of puntland nor their safety.

Don't you think this farole bashing is getting a little bit of hand? It is becoming a joke now. Calm down with it.

I believe the days of generators need to be put back to the stone-ages and we need to move forward. I was viewing some interesting pictures of nugaal electricity company on their website and their design plans for proving the most reliable electricity service to puntland. They are obviously starting in the capital but it's looking promising and should be replicated all over puntland cities. The pics can be seen here. NEC Ps: They are building the grids for new projects in puntland, however I think they should expand it to existing areas that lack the electricity. Anyways this is a promising start ironically they started up at 2000.

ThankfulSP. My friend I don't what is going on from what i heard farole say in his speech at al-huda mosque in garowe I personally supported it. Especially when he said that he will lock up and detain all people who are percieved as security threats. Lakin when I heard he will deport them to that is when He got me lost. Does he mean if he finds trouble-makers from different countries like french reporters and deport them? or does he mean he will deport onlf people back to ethiopia. Anyways If he detains all trouble-makers inside puntland and prosecutes them within puntland, I don't see a problem with that. However if he starts sending the persecuted to places of persecutions that is now breaking international bills of human rights that are well accepted by international bodies in the world and he needs to be condemned. He can't be claiming Puntland is moving into a democracy, yet not accept well defined international protocols. You just can't get it both ways. Anyways I am just waiting for further clarifications of his positions

Che. What do you want Puntland to do, Please inform us? Let see your GRAND IDEA.
