I been to berbera airport back in 2000 and that was one hell of a hot place. the hottest place i have seen in somalia. As for their development, well i don't know but i do remember it was very empty city 10 ppl were at the airport and their was that 1 big blue ship. I didn't leave the airport and was only at the airport for 1 hr before on my way to dubai, but i do remember the heat because the airplane turn the engine off and so went the air conditioner and we all sweated like in 10 secs. No joke we finally got out of the plane after 5 minutes and were smacked with an unbearable hot wind.

Shabaab looks to the Somali North Image of a Shabaab fighter from the terror group's website. By Daniele RaineriJanuary 22, 2010 10:21 AM Speaking to a crowd in Ufurow district in the Bakool region, Mahad Omar Abdikarin, Shabaab’s governor for the Bay and Bakool regions in southwestern Somalia, recently announced that the al-Qaeda-backed group will attack Puntland, the semi-autonomous state, and the breakaway republic of Somaliland. Abdikarin is a prominent leader who has publicly flaunted Shabaab’s link with al Qaeda and has urged foreign fighters to flock to Somalia. Having consolidated its power in the Deep South along the Kenyan border, Shabaab has launched a terror offensive in the northern self-declared state of Puntland. It is a Mexican drug gang-style campaign, with an aggressive string of targeted assassinations and low profile bombings in a Somali region that had been relatively safe and prosperous. In the last two months, Shabaab gunmen have killed a prominent judge who were responsible for jailing some of Shabaab' supporters and two Puntland lawmakers; executed senior police officers; targeted an infantry division general with a roadside bomb attack; and even shot a number of clerics on the doorsteps of their mosques, accusing them of preaching moderate sermons opposed to Shabaab’s hard-line extremism. Shabaab has also demonstrated in the past that it has the capacity to conduct a coordinated suicide bombing campaign in the North. On Oct. 29, 2008, five suicide bombers struck four compounds in the semi-autonomous regions of Somaliland and Puntland, killing 28 Somalis and wounding scores more. In that assault, three suicide car bombers struck the presidential palace, the UN Development Program compound, and the Ethiopian Consulate in the city of Hargeisa in Somaliland; and two more bombers targeted an intelligence facility in the city of Bosasso in Puntland. Shabaab’s short-term objective is not conquering and controlling Puntland. Although the group is besieging the Transitional Federal Government in the capital Mogadishu, it is not yet capable of deploying the large number of fighters required to take over Puntland. At this stage, Shabaab has more modest goals: asserting its presence in the North, demonstrating it can strike at its enemies even in the safest regions of the country at will, and showing it is poised to take power. It is unclear if Shabaab is conducting the current Puntland campaign using local cells or operating from more remote bases in central and southern Somalia. In its quest to overrun Puntland, Shabaab will have to confront two strong groups. The first is Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a, a pro-government Somali Islamist militia that follows the religious tradition of Sufism. Shabaab has targeted Sufis for practicing a different strain of Islam, and has destroyed Sufi shrines, cemeteries, and other symbols. Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’a is strong in the central regions of the country and has fought back against Shabaab’s incursion on its turf. The second group standing in Shabaab’s way is the Puntland security forces. Puntland’s security services are much better organized than the poorly trained and corrupt army that backs the weak Transitional Federal Government in Mogadishu, which only controls a few small pockets in the capital. A Shabaab victory in Puntland has dire strategic implications for the region. If Puntland becomes a failed state like the South, there will be a greatly magnified threat to the shipping passing through the Red Sea, the Bab al Mandeb waterway (the narrow strait between Somalia and Yemen), and the Gulf of Aden. In an April 2008 statement made in an al Qaeda-linked journal, al Qaeda described the Bab al Mandeb and the Gulf of Aden as "of supreme strategic importance" in their plans to control the region. With the strengthening of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula in Yemen, gains by Shabaab in Puntland and Somaliland will plunge the region into crisis.

I would like to also mention that rayale said in this interview that "silanyo" is a federalist. I guess he knows the ceel-efweyn deal!!! I was telling xaji xunjuf recently that watch 1 habar will be exiting this somaliland entity come election time. I even told him the names that the states will be called, such as "toghdheer state of somalia" to be precise!!! Rayale has just confirmed that silanyo is federalist, I already knew because i know the ceel af-weyn deal because of cade who talks to my dad alot and my dad tells me a few things here and there and usually comes true as reported by VOA with rayale calling silanyo a "federalist"
-
That is good development. They should be doing more for the eastern areas, your troops all hail from those eastern areas, u better take care of them or you won't have any guards protecting u!!! But 1 thing I do have alot of respect for is the silanyo ppl!!! they truly stick by somaliland for 20 years without ever getting the opportunity to rule the place!!! thats gobanimo. I am sure most clans in somalis wouldn't tolerate that. I know my clan wouldn't. Infact the most gobanimo ppl in all of puntland is the ssc ppl and their gobanimo didn't last 11 years of ssdf rule before they started playing up!!!
-
Somaliland Is Just Fazy dream that will be extinquished and they will be designated their "ministerial positions" as all clans are. The International Community can't strain it's relationship with the A.U and recognize somaliland without even consulting the A.U and the A.U consults it's big members especially Egypt and Ethiopia who are in that region. But It hasn't even reached that far, and if it does I think it is safe to say that both egypt and ethiopia would not dare allow any recognition of somaliland. And if it finally comes down to Somalia and asking them, we know where that route will go. Eritrea needed Ethiopia Permission. And somaliland is right next door, what makes u think you won't need somalia permission? Somalia may not have functional government, but it does have a tfg which signs agreements with international community and as long as they keep doing that my friend somaliland is going nowhere. The sooner u wake up the better!!! Or just go back into your hazy somaliland dreams and don't come to reality crunching forums such as SOL and spew to us what ur day-dream stories are like because i am sure we all consider ourselves as mature adult on SOL!!!

Sacad. Rayale has distinctive trade marks that he utilizes!!! He is most likely trying to play clan against clan in different parts of somaliland and hopefully have somewhere that explodes up and he can come in for the rescue and put ppl off the election!!!

Xaji, Alot of the media have been twisting what the garaads have said in order to cause confusion in the diaspora. All the Garaads are pro puntland, they are just against FAROLE. There is big difference when u r against the policies of 1 man. They have never said they lost confidence in the "puntland creation" and the ideals it was set up for. For example. I can be an opposition to "obama" this doesn't translate to "i am anti-america". Same case applies to garad jamac. He is an opposition to farole puntland, not PUNTLAND ALL TOGETHER. If you listen carefully to his bbc interview, he says he "LOST CONFIDENCE IN MAMULKA PUNTLAND". Always remember the Mamul changes every 5 years in puntland. Mamuls come and go. You will not see him say "I lost confidence in Puntland creation". He always talks specific to the policies of the man in power at puntland!!! He doesn't like his policies and he has a right not to like them, it's up to him!!! But it is dishonest media outlets who twist this and cause confusion as to mean that "he lost confidence in puntland creation" so they can advance their political ambition by twisting the truth a "bit" here and there!!!

Let me give you a reminder on Xaaji Xunjuf Predictions just a week ago regarding the garaad jamac. This is What Xaji Xunjuf Predictions Were. Garaad jamac garaad cali is the supreme leader and I don’t think he will be coming to boosaaso, if he does he will lose those who support him that support an independent state called ssc and they will see him just a puntland sympathiser and they don’t want that. That will just push them further away. Dr Cawke Prediction There is what 14 garads. 1 garad is missing. Wow such a big deal!!! but i am sure he will show up also!!! The people don't want an ssc. Didn't you read the article about the conflicts they met with the diaspora especially the ones in the emirate. Mind you the most successful somalis are all based in emirates not london or toronto. If they want money for this to happen, they need the emirate diaspora to financially back it and they said "NO". End of story for garad jamac. He will be in bossaso in 1 week time. Mark my words !!! Somalia: the authority of Puntland retorts Al-Shabab Mogadishu Monday 18 January 2010 SMC The authority of the semiautonomous state of Puntland in eastern Somalia has angrily replied a statement released by the armed and strong Islamist faction which is vivid in southern and partly of central Somalia. Al-Shabab has recently condemned the authority of Puntland state of badly dealing with the Muslim people under its authority. Thus this statement from Al-Shabab has forced the authority of Puntland state to swiftly response. “It is null and void statement from the so called Al-Shabab that the authority of Puntland targets the Muslim people under its authority, all human beings are equal for the authority of Puntland and we don’t focus on races” said Musse Gelle Yussuf the provincial commissioner of Bari region speaking to Somaliweyn Website on Monday morning. The PC of Bari region Mr. Gelle has also added that there is reason as to why they target people who are not risk to the stability of their state. Somaliweyn Media Center

Man who shot Pope John Paul II freed from Turkish jail Mehmet Ali Agca has left prison after nearly 30 years behind bars. The man who tried to kill Pope John Paul II in 1981 has been released from prison in Turkey. Mehmet Ali Agca served 19 years in an Italian prison for shooting John Paul, and another 10 years in Turkey for the earlier murder of a newspaper editor. Agca's motives for attempting to kill the Pope remain a mystery, although when he was arrested he said he was acting alone. In 1983 John Paul announced he had forgiven Agca after meeting him. There have been long-standing questions about the mental health of Agca, based on his frequent outbursts and statements that he was a new messiah. In a statement issued on his release, he said: "I proclaim the end of the world. All the world will be destroyed in this century. Every human being will die in this century... I am the Christ eternal." Turkish media say Agca is now to be taken to a military facility and then to a hospital to be assessed for compulsory military service. Contradictory statements Agca, 52, had been a member of a Turkish ultra-nationalist group who fled Turkey after killing a newspaper editor. He opened fire on Pope John Paul as he was being driven through St Peter's Square in Rome in an open vehicle on 13 May, 1981. The Pope was seriously injured in the attack and Agca spent the next 19 years in prison in Italy. He maintained at first that he was acting alone, but over the years frequently changed his story and gave often contradictory statements. He had once claimed, for example, that he was under the orders of the Bulgarian secret service. A trial lasting 22 months was held in Rome during the 1980s about the alleged Bulgarian connection. The accused were all acquitted for lack of proof. One of 'great mysteries' The BBC's Jonathan Head in Istanbul says that Agca will now have the chance to clear up one of the great mysteries of the last century - what was it that drove him to attempt the assassination of the most influential pope of modern times? Agca's lawyers say he has been offered multi-million-dollar deals to tell his story. Our correspondent says that after all the bizarre statements he has issued from jail, that story - if he tells it - is unlikely to be convincing. He adds that few people believe he could have acted alone, but that whatever he says now, the real story behind the shooting of the Pope will in all likelihood never be known.

This is strengthening ties between the university of east africa and malaysian university in areas such as curriculum, research, and in the future scholarships. We already have scholarships done for high school students who can at anytime go to a sudani university by using their puntland high school certificate as an entry point. This is a feat not done anywhere else in somali inhabited regions. Not even JABUTI!!! Their high school certificates are not recognized anywhere outside of jabuti!!! It is matter of further strengthening higher education facilities in puntland to make sure it's not out-dated material being taught but up to date. We don't want to find our students going to sudani universities or yemeni universities and FAILING. Therefore it is up to us to guarantee they have the basics covered in puntland and to further streghten them at international facilities!!! This malaysian envoy is just another university we are building ties with!!! And it is not GNN

Pigrim. Well the equipment have been docked down years ago under cade term. You see the oil program has 4 phases. Phase 1: Tendering and finding the correct oil company. Can be quite intensive stage and setting up the legalities, contracts, production agreements, etc. Phase 2.The Oil exploration is the second stage, which is seismic studies, data gathering, comparisons of land surface to other known oil provinces, measurement of production output, markings of oil well, etc. Phase 3. The Oil drilling stage. Where equipments for the physical search of oil begings. This is where they start drilling upon the data they gathered from the first phase of the cycle. Phase 4. Finally in the last stage is the oil production phase is when they start to install permanent riggs in the confirmed areas and start producing the barrels of oil. This phase is the hardest phase out all 3 because they need to start bringing into production equipment, setting up headquarters, and many other things to name!!! Puntland has successfully passed phase 1 and 2. Sometimes it has come back to phase 1 to re-negiotate the contracts and production agreement. It is now successfully in stage 2 and is beginning the oil digging phase at isku-shuban which start from the 20th and continue to the 30th of january of this month. Finally yes, the locals are eager and awaiting to this development that looks to change their lives and have guaranteed to safeguard the company and explorers when they arrive. This can give the town job creation and provide the state an extra taxable income whilst the govt also get's it share out of the production deal and start building the state for the ppl to excel well into the future!!!

Jacaylbaro, today war in somalia is "guerilla warfare" they are using suicide bombings, hit and runs, assasination, etc. These are classic urban warfare tactics. Somalis never fought like this before. Wars used to be clan vs clan and just all out muscle!!! How else can u defeat someone who is willingly to mingle with u in a cafe and then explode it up? the only way is INTELLIGENCE GATHERING!!! you can't out-muscle an enemy that u can even see!!! The war games has changed in somalia and puntland has updated itself with the times!!! Priority 1 is intelligence gathering, everything else is secondary. If we return back to the old way of fighting which was clan vs clan. Then first priority is darawish para forces!!! Puntland is here to survive and will do whatever it takes to make sure of that on top of that we want to build our state. It's not much but we are not a state is AGGRESSORS. We never attacked the usc in galkayo, they first came to us. We never attacked al-itihaad they came to us. We never attacked somaliland, they came to our tribal areas!!! The puntland ppl is about defense, we are not about offense!!! We respect tribal boundaries. We don't ask for more then what is our damn share!!! the only slight exception is morgan type who are about offense strategy which noone in puntland ever supports him, even abdullahi yusuf didn't bother to arm him up when he was head of the tfg or puntland nor did cade or nor will farole. Because it is against our policies!!!

Yes the idp's are going to have to be incoporated sooner later, from some of the statistics i been reading 1 in 5 ppl are an idp in puntland, therefore they do have a big base. It would be very wise move to incoporate them because then they will also participate in safe guarding the state because they are apart of the "processes" in the state. They already provide a critical labour potential for the state as they are mainly concentrated into construction jobs and other type of manual labor. As we all know when that oil starts pumping, their is going to be alot of infrastructure projects that will kick away which will need the "man-power" therefore I believe they are very important stakeholder in puntland today. As for the audit office. They need to be INDEPEDENT which is the keyword. Have no political ties to the government or any extra conflict of interest that may sway their judgements!!!! I said clan-elders because in my opinion i believe somalis are more clan orientated ppl then religious people!!! How many times have somalis participated in "jihad" maybe 5 times at tops in history. How many times have they participated in clan battles over the history? countless!!! Religion is important for somalis when foreigners are present, not when they are among themselves in my belief!!! As for the rotating seat. Yeah If SSDF man is in the seat, the next election should have non ssdf runners challenging him. Not have more ssdf ppl running!!! If it is someone who makhir in the seat of power, naturally the ppl that will run must be non makhiris against the makhir president!!! The 66 system has worked for 11 years quite well for us, it's not perfect and i know that but it aint BROKEN it just leaking and needs a few band-aid fixes to close up those holes!!! Rather then throw it all out and implement something that has proven a total failure for african/arab nations!!!

PIS is the most powerful Institution in Somalia. It main intention is make sure we don't become a bloodbath region such as hamar and to safe-guard the locals from any extremist element that may cause the local people jepordy. They don't play jokes with the safety of it's citizen knowing full well that extremist elements in mogadishu would love to see bossaso-galkayo-garowe be brought into the blood spilling contests. You can watch this nice little presentation on the PIS to get more information from what PUNTLANDERS think they are!!! PIS Presentation

German government warns against using MS Explorer By Daniel Emery Technology Reporter, BBC News The warning applies to versions 6, 7 and 8 of Internet Explorer The German government has warned web users to find an alternative browser to Internet Explorer to protect security. The warning from the Federal Office for Information Security comes after Microsoft admitted IE was the weak link in recent attacks on Google's systems. Microsoft rejected the warning, saying that the risk to users was low and that the browsers' increased security setting would prevent any serious risk. However, German authorities say that even this would not make IE fully safe. Thomas Baumgaertner, a spokesman for Microsoft in Germany, said that while they were aware of the warning, they did not agree with it, saying that the attacks on Google were by "highly motivated people with a very specific agenda". "These were not attacks against general users or consumers," said Mr Baumgaertner. "There is no threat to the general user, consequently we do not support this warning," he added. Microsoft says the security hole can be shut by setting the browser's security zone to "high", although this limits functionality and blocks many websites. However, Graham Cluley of anti-virus firm Sophos, told BBC News that not only did the warning apply to 6, 7 and 8 of the browser, but the instructions on how to exploit the flaw had been posted on the internet. "This is a vulnerability that was announced in the last couple of days. Microsoft have no patch yet and the implication is that this is the same one that exploited on the attacks on Google earlier this week," he said. Computer expert Alan Stevens: "It's like having a window left open in your house" "The way to exploit this flaw has now appeared on the internet, so it is quite possible that everyone is now going to have a go." Microsoft traditionally release a security update once a month - the next scheduled patch is the 9th of February. However, a spokesman for Microsoft told BBC News that developers for the firm were trying to fix the problem. "We are working on an update on this issue and this may well involve an out of cycle security update," he said. Fix development However, this is no easy task. Not only have the firm got to fix the loophole, but they have to ensure it does not create another one and - equally importantly - works on all computers. This is a challenge compounded by the fact they have to fix three different versions of its browser. Microsoft said that while all versions of Internet Explorer were affected, the risk was lower with more recent releases of its browser. The other problem facing developers is that the possible risk might not be prevented by anti-virus software, even when recently updated. "We've been working to analyse the malware that the Chinese are using. But new versions can always be created," said Mr Cluley. "We've been working with Microsoft to see if the damage can be mitigated and we are hoping that they will release an emergency patch. "One thing that should be stressed is that every browser has its security issues, so switching may remove this current risk but could expose you to another."
