With disputed border territory they probably mean the border between Kenya and Somalia which is terrorised by Shifta bandits. (yeah our cousins outside the borders of our republic are just as crazy as we are) Isnt he the guy that visited Somalia in 2004? If Im not mistaken, he visited Hargeisa, Bossasso and the Cal Madow forrest in Sanaag. He got a lot of criticism for not including enough black artists to Live Aid. Dont think I can watch, I need to resit an exam wednesday.

Good news and bad news. There is a fierce competition between the Red Sea coast ports; Port Sudan (Sudan), Djibouti (Djibouti), Berbera (Somaliland) and Bossasso (Puntland). And it looks like Berbera has a tough time keeping its head above the surface of the water, because the port of Berbera is simply, badly run, badly managed, badly maintained and riddled with corruption. Djibouti and Bossasso were initially the only threat to Berbera. Djibouti has made its port partly private and is being upgraded extremely. Bossasso plays the lower tariff & lenient regulation card. And its working quite well, cuz both are prospering whereas Berbera goes down the drain. But now it seems that Port Sudan in Sudan doesnt mind taking advantage of all the opportunities and chances that Berbera is squandering. They became the final choice after big player Ethiopia (a large growing market of 70 million people!) were turned off at what they saw in Berbera. Calaa kuli xaal, good news that Berbera is losing in the red sea ports battle. Bad news that Sudan enjoys the missed opportunities of the dirtpoor Somalis.

That is beautiful. We need to raise funds to protect places like Gacan Libaax from loggers, poachers, settlers etc. We could never compete with our Kenyan neighbour, but Somalis should seriously consider the possibilites of eco-tourism.

You are the one who is confused Rahima. You said that you challenged this line of mine: Allah swt doesnt turn ppl into animals. Look carefully, I said that Allah doesnt do it. Not that he cant do it. But you understood it as that I denied Allahs ability to do it. So you dig into the Hadiths to prove wrong what you think I meant, but what I havent meant. Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “In this Ummah there will be punishments of earthquakes, showers of stones and deformity (transformation into animals) ; that will be when the people drink khamr, listen to female singers and play musical instruments.†(See al-Silsilah as-Saheehah, 2203; attributed to Ibn Abid-Dunya, Dhamm al-Malahi; the hadith was narrated by at-Tirmidhi, no. 2212). Even with the xadith you take the meaning out of context. I have talked about this with people recently as it was the hottest topic of the last week. The punishment of deformity by Allah wouldnt be as drastic as to change one into an animal. Factors that a play a role here are; Allahs mercy, punishment role of Aakhiro (Afterlife) and the general knowledge that no major miracles would occur in this world after Nebi Maxamed CSS as it did occur during the time of the prophets. Just by saying Allah can do it, so it can happen. Is a bit too simple. Everybody knows Allah can do anything, He is the Allmighty. So considering that I myself don’t believe in this story, why would I be trying to validate this incident with hadeeths. You are confusing the two, I can say that this story is a hoax but I don’t have to deny that Allah does turn people into animals. Times have changed for humanity after our last prophet Nebi Maxamed CSS. Everybody knows that. Humanity is on its own. Allah gave us a last chance (Islam) after Jews turned the faith into a tribal religion, Christians corrupted what was given by Allah through Nebi Ciise. This last chance, call it a resit if you like, is harder than before. The people that went astray in the days of Nebi Luut, Ibraahim, Muuse etc. might have been blessed with miracles to strenghten the diin. Now we have to do it without those miracles. Something people with a weak imaan need, to worship Allah. Piece of advice. If you want to teach people something, dont do it in an arrogant attitude like: "I know it and you dont, so shut up!". Arrogance reflects lack of wisdom and good character and is condemned in Islam. Dadka sii fiican baa wax loo sheegaa waana loo sharaxaa! Otherwise its like washing yourself with urine.

I would probably keep one leg in the west and one in Somalia. I don't think, especially not in the near future right after I finish Uni, that I'm gonna pack my bags and leave for Somalia for good. I see the west to much as my home for that. Most probable thing would be to live in the west, eventually open up a business and buy a dreamhouse in Somalia. If my business goes great enough, to leave my job in the west. And from then on gradually replacing the west for Somalia.

Suldaanka, do you think that because the foreign company Total acquired the sole license to import petrol through Berbera port recently from Riyaale, that it will enhance the economy of Somaliland? I suspect that Riyaale rather deals with Total, to have more space to embezzle government money. They might have planned to say to the people on these occasions:"fuel price increase? well youll have to blame Total!". But in the mean time, pocketing 30%-50% of the money increase!

UNICEF resumes activities in Northeast Somalia Resumption occurs after talks with Puntland President Nairobi, Kenya, Wednesday 15 June 2005 - UNICEF has with immediate effect resumed operations in Northeast Somalia ('Puntland') UNICEF Somalia Representative, Jesper Morch, announced in Nairobi, Kenya. The decision was taken after fruitful discussions between the UNICEF Representative and Puntland President Mohamud Muse Hirsi in Nairobi in which they reaffirmed their commitment to working together to improve the lives of the children of Puntland. "Puntland and UNICEF have put their differences behind them and join hands in a shared strong commitment to renewed action for Puntland's children and vulnerable groups,'' the two parties said. "In so doing the Puntland authorities and UNICEF Somalia build on years of concerted action to improve the situation of children in the fields of health and nutrition; education; water and environmental sanitation; child protection; youth development; and HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support." In announcing the resumption of operations, Mr Morch reaffirmed UNICEF's respect and appreciation for the strong personal commitment of the President of Puntland to the wellbeing and welfare of children, saying that "as peace, reconciliation and transition hopefully begin to take root in central and southern Somalia, experiences from Puntland may well serve as a model for the long troubled country". He added that the President had personally championed the cause of educating every child in Puntland and committed his administration to supporting 200 new teachers in the coming year. Puntland President, Mohamud Muse Hirsi, stated that "the noble mission of UNICEF and services rendered to the Somali people in Puntland are fundamental and of paramount importance. This is acknowledged by all". In the statement, President Hirsi reaffirmed respect for UNICEF's rules, regulations and institutional procedures and the guarantee of safety, security and unimpeded access for UNICEF staff in the implementation of activities. UNICEF confirmed that it would similarly be guided by the Government of Puntland's rules and regulations. The two parties agreed to remain guided by the October 2002 "Memorandum of Cooperation" upon which their collaboration is based. The resumption of activities is a welcome development, as a number of critical initiatives are underway or about to begin. Among them are the ongoing recovery efforts in the areas affected by the December 2004 tsunami, conducted jointly with other UN agencies and NGOs; an ambitious Back to School initiative which aims to reach all girls and boys throughout Somalia; and a new European Community/UNICEF water project that will target numerous towns and villages throughout Puntland. The resumption takes place following nearly three weeks of suspended operations. For further information contact: 1. Jesper Morch, Representative, UNICEF Somalia. Email: jmorch@unicef.org. Mobile: +254-721-244-800 Editors note: Puntland, a semi-autonomous state within Somalia, has its own president, but unlike Northwest Somalia ('Somaliland') which has declared sovereignty, Puntland has always stated that it will remain an integral part of Somalia. About UNICEF For nearly 60 years UNICEF has been the world's leader for children, working on the ground in 158 countries to help children survive and thrive, from early childhood through adolescence. The world's largest provider of vaccines for poor countries, UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS. UNICEF is funded entirely by the voluntary contributions of individuals, businesses, foundations and governments.

I checked it out in the xadiith, and with deformity is meant plain old deformity, and not transformation into animals. As in matter of fact, the word deformity would be quite an understatement for transformation into a beast. In future do not twist and bend the truth.

Rahima, ill spare you your daily dose of humiliation, but dont you ever in your life get the nerves to speak to me like that again.
-
What a blasphemous article. Allah swt doesnt turn ppl into animals. If you know your religion well, you wouldnt believe this crap. Maybe it was meant well by the ppl behind this, but to scare ppl like this is not good. Have you ever met an Imaam who scares you to become a better muslim? Dont listen to these lies. Besides, this would be the most controversial news in our lifetime if it was real.

if the president doesnt go to Jowhar after this summit in Qatar, than it really is weird. second to left; president cabdulahi yussef

the dumb mistake in that article is funny, but this topic is not.

Times have changed and Puntland leadership has changed. The Yeey-Xaashi period was about building peace and governance from scratch as well as uniting the Northeasterners (SSDF, USP, SNDU) in one block to reach that goal itself, but also use that block in peace negotiations with our traditional enemies (USC, SNM etc.) to get our fair share of the pie. Both goals are achieved, anno 2005 Northeastern Somalia is enjoying relative peace and prosperity and on the other side the president of Puntland became the president of Somalia at October 10th. Now we have Cadde-AfQudhac as the leaders of our state. The new goals are economic and social development. Let me give you a glimpse of the work of Cadde in Boossaaso alone= A modern international airport is being build in Boossaasso by the Puntland government, businessmen and some help of Sharjah Emirate the port of Boossaasso will be expanded and upgraded with help from Sharjah Emirate 10.000 trees planted in the coming 3 years in Boossaasso and additional 500 palm trees in and around the airport

You werent kidding sxb, I just witnessed goat abuse. They literaly threw goats in the depth of the container man. But thats a problem for the Arabs, as long as we Somalis get our cash. I gather you know the famous Dutch freelance journalist Ruud Elmendorp, who went to Boossaasso to shoot a report on Xaafuun. Ruud Elmendorp in a mass graveyard in Uganda. Here are some of his pictures of water facilities in Boossaasso:

Afromalic, I'm not violent sxb, I'm Somali! I used to be a militialeader back in the day, but I gave up on that "too fast too furious" life and became a miskiin qaxooti in the west. I miss my boys!

Who the hell wants kids? They smell like xaar, destroy your house, destroy your car, raise your blood pressure, cost too much money and they piss themselves. But if I would end up having kids by accident, than I would probably beat them up to tough them up.

You never know what the future is about to behold. Something spectacular could happen once Colonel Yeey settles in Somalia. Off to Jowhar!

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,3-1651918,00.html President is told to pack bags after outstaying his welcome President Yusef: exile over A RELUCTANT guest of honour will arrive for his farewell party at Kenya’s State House this morning, shake hands with government ministers and listen to the very best wishes from a relieved international donor community. Abdullahi Yusuf, the Somalian President-in-exile, is finally going home. “He is going to a summit in Qatar, and then perhaps to another Arab country,†Yusuf Ismail Bari Bari, the President’s spokesman, said yesterday. “But then it will be Somalia. He is not coming back here.†The departure of President Yusuf will come as a huge relief to the Kenyan authorities. They have hosted their neighbour’s Government since 2002. But bitter wrangling over the choice of a capital city and the matter of foreign peacekeeping troops had raised the prospect of the Government collapsing before it even returned home. Neither issue has been resolved but the Kenyans and the donor countries who have been paying for the MPs’ accommodation have had enough of the Somalis’ prevarication. Last week the parliamentarians received eviction notices from their upmarket hotels in Nairobi. All are expected to return to Somalia — still largely a patchwork of warlords’ fiefdoms — by the end of the week. A senior UN official, who asked not be named, said: “They now have simply got to take the risk of going home.†Since his election by politicians last October, Mr Yusuf, 70, a former warlord, has argued that the risk of relocating to the traditional capital, Mogadishu, the epicentre of Somalia’s anarchy, was too great. He has insisted on moving the capital to the nearby towns of Baidoa or Jowhar, so infuriating many MPs and frustrating international officials. A failed attempt by militia loyal to Mr Yusuf to take Baidoa by force two weeks ago served only to raise suspicions about his commitment to peace and national unity. Last month the UN proposed that the Government should move to Mogadishu under a plan in which a soon-to-be-established police force would secure the city while the President toured the country. And so more than 100 MPs have returned to Mogadishu. With civic groups, they have dismantled 20 roadblocks used by the warlords to extort money. This is being seen as a big step forward. STATE OF CHAOS Somalia has been without an effective government since 1991, when the dictator Mohamed Siad Barre was overthrown More than 14 attempts to restore a national administration have been prevented by heavily armed warlords The 275-member Transitional Federal Government (TFG) — including many warlords — was set up in October 2004 after two years of peace talks in Kenya The TFG was due to relocate to Somalia on December 15, 2004, but MPs chose to remain in Kenya, citing security fears

General Duke, this government will definetily work! For the Somali ppl, the election of Colonel Yeey was the first surprise, his roaming in Jowhar and Beled Weyn another one and AU approval of Ina Yeeys request of foreign troops another one. And I feel that there are more and bigger surprises to come. Good surprises of course!

Dont you guys think its amazing how our countrys economy is growing, without: - foreign investment - IMF, World Bank, African Development Bank etc. cash injections and guidance - a (proper) government This is a very good investment for the entrepreneurs of this company Kawsar themselves and the consumers, because imported soft drink like Coca Cola, Pepsi, 7-Up, Fanta cost 7000 shillings to import and its ultimately sold in bakhaars and biibitos for 10 000 shillings. But take for example the United Bottling Company in Muqdisho, it produces for 3000 shillings per unit (bottle) and ultimately it is sold in the bakhaars and biibitos for 5000 shillings. HALF THE PRICE OF IMPORT BOTTLES! So definetily they have a good opportunity in competing with the import bottles. But dont underestimate the power of brandnames. Some guys tried to invest in a Bottling company that produces Pepsi brands, but ended up not doing it, because Somalis rather drink Coca Cola than Pepsi. I dont know why, but Coca Cola is popular in Somalia. Ironic, because Somalia is the country in the world that doesnt have a Coca Cola website. Even Djibouti has it for goodness sake! Still their reach is limited, they need to grow fast! UBC in Xamar is no doubt the mother of all bottling companies in somalia. But its products only reach as far as Jowhar and Marka so far. This Cabdulcasiis Bilaal guy reminds me of a mini version of Abdulcadir Khan of Pakistan who acquired knowledge in the Netherlands while working in a nuclear plant and headed home with that knowledge. I did some research and this is the company he used to work for. Its called Vrumona. Its the only Dutch bottling company. http://www.vrumona.nl/domains/default/pages/default.aspx?contentcode=HOMEPAGE

W.D: c/fatax jaamac | Bosaso Email: somalitalkpl@yahoo.com Faafin: SomaliTalk.com | June 12, 2005 * cocacola is meant to be just cola, not the brand Coca Cola itself. Somalis are unaware that the actual product is named cola. Success for this company in competing with the imported soft drink with the famous brandnames.
