Somali Women and Revert Marriage Phenomenon
NASSIR replied to Mr. Gello - The proud Soma's topic in General
Originally posted by -Lily-: Malika, one can believe in one Ummah and still value their own culture and people (to be as important as everyone else). Instead of playing the Somali card, he should look or reflect on what he is lacking and what the competition has and try to impress the Somali sister by sincerely changing especially if she is after good qualities(e.g character or religious knowledge). Who knows she may change her opinion. Even if she doesn't, it would be her loss as he has acquired new qualities which would work in his favour. All in all, I do not really care but I have to disapprove of it in light of the social consequence for the girl and her nuclear family and future kids. Duke, if you prefer your daughter to be married off to a Somali, then your inner belief must match your expressions, actions and expectations or else it is what the psychologists termed as cognitive dissonance. -

The Federation supports 22 MCH/OPDs, and four in Bari region in co-operation with the German Red Cross. SRCS also operates four in Sool and Sanaag in co-operation with the German Red Cross. The SRCS will examine current support to the Nugal hospital in consultation with all stakeholders. The SRCS will continue to provide rehabilitation services in co-operation with the Norwegian Red Cross to physically disabled persons through the Mogadishu, Hargeisa and Galkayo branches. It also says: In 2005 UNAIDS estimated that 44,000 adults and children were living with HIV and AIDS in Somalia. Surveys among women attending antenatal clinics have found HIV prevalence as high as 2.3 per cent in Berbera. (WHO, 2005). Somali Women and Revert Marriage Phenomenon

Malika, the basis of Political Islam is that of purely legalistic readings of our religion and it openly opposes the preservation of nation-states (ex. Somalia). It advocates for the return of one single Islamic empire similar to the time of Ummayads and Ottomans. And they use everything at their disposal to justify the end, that means the application of brute, unconventional force and a mass campaign of homogenization. We are therefore obliged as concerned citizens to be wary of their tricks and deceptions, of entities, individuals and dominant societies with hidden objectives. And we must be protective of our unsuspecting daughters. A life of riviled isolation and constant suspicion of her own race is not a path one should take. I also admit in the long run, we in the Diaspora risk of losing our unique identity to external forces. -
There are no "Somaliland" agents in much of the Sanag region. It's well known to the international agencies that the clan entity from Hargeisa hampers relief efforts. For instance, the said entity was antoganized by the cash relief effort jointly led by a Norweigian agency and Horn Relief and, without the least concern, threatened to apply underhanded tactics and to forestall its implementation though the attempt was unsuccessuful in the end. Besides, Red Crescent or any other international agency can open up offices in the region but the address will always be Sanaag, Somalia. JB, Doesn't this political game of squeezing yourself where you are extremely unpopular ever get its updates or briefings??

Aaliyah416, thanks for the patriotism. Somalia's train shall soon arrive at a station near you and we must hop in, meet our sophisticated country friends from all over the world and co-share unforgettable recollections full of laughter and life-learned lessons -- plans for the great national reconstruction tasks ahead. Rajo is my favorite.

Somali Women and Revert Marriage Phenomenon

Originally posted by Caamir: [ Though I hardly see this social trend and no one has ever taken a survey of Somali women's view of marrying reverts, I would suggest let's not give the topic a serious note. Most Somali girls/women have strong foundation of nuclear families that reside with them and who do greatly involve into their daily decision making. Even the educated ones among us do not simply make a decision independent of their family's input. However, few facts need to be addressed. There's mismatch to the ratio of Somali male to female in terms of upward mobility. This imbalance would indeed have an impact on the person's freedom of choice, and more women constrained by the combined effect of time, financial resources and the need for an ideal Somali person with the preferred credentials, would opt to marry a non-Somali should the opportunity presents itself. However, there's no need to worry about such trends as our country is in the middle of crisis. The trend will indeed reverse sooner our country gets back to normal and we all go back home and participate its reconstruction. And if the younger Somali generation who live in the west simply gets diluted by cross-cultural contacts after 30 or 40 years, they would still be Somali and probably speak our beloved language. Ashkiro, A recent study found that 70% of African American women to be single. What do you think is the cause and do you think there's correlation of their predicament to Somali women? [/QB] An old post of mine. My views have changed indeed. I used to attribute the cause of this worrying trend to the problems of unequal social mobility (gender in this case). But it is in fact the direct influence of Political Islam, methinks. It has seeped deep into the fabric of our society and its traditional institutions. And it is one of the reasons that the concept of natÍon-states does not appeal to them. Their identity transcends nationality. But the important thing to note is that culture is a process subject to change. We have to be able to come up with a solution and organize a movement around the the consensus of our communities across the globe through communication channels and confront the forces of global media and popular culture as well as political Islam. Here is a basic illustration of international relations. Humanity is divided into nations. Each nation has its own peculiar character The source of political power is loyalty to the nation Nations can be developed only in their nation-states. Universal peace and harmony can be secured through the strengthening of Nation-states. -
The liberation of the occupied SSC regions is a matter for its people and that is their God given right in the face of aggression by a predatory expansionist clan. continues to occupy Sool region and its capital Lascanod which it invaded in October 2007. Recognizing that conflict exists is part of a democratic process and it entails both rights and obligations. For objectivity and credibility of future press releases, I would highly and seriously recommend tha application of [the clan x in the SSC regions] This is turn will deal with internal problem at hand, minimize media confusion, avoid engendering resentment of those with seperate clan identity ,character, locality, and finally bring into criminal justice the agents of the Sool issue.

Is it not Egypt, Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations, our stratetic Muslim and cultural brethrens/allies, that have always supported the territorial and political unity of Somalia. How ungrateful have we become? There will always be a symbiotic relationship between Arabs and Somalis. And from non-religious perspective, we are of one race belonging to the Afro-asiatic family of languages. NN, saxib, ma "somaliland" baad ku biirtey? Waa maxay sheekada ah hala yeeshaan xiriiir. Only the federal government has that de jure and diplomatic power to transact business with the state of Israel.

No country had ever recognized the British Protectorate prior to the union. That is the grand fabrication of Somalia's history since our state collapse. Well said, LST.

Perhaps the revert can one day marry a Somali Muslim girl. As much as I love our sisters, I can't bring myself to bear their conviction and support about this trend of revert marriages between white men and our girls after the former had proselytized from their former belief system. The implications of this trend is even going further than usual. Very young girls are falling for this trap. Read the confessions of a British Spy state how easy it is to win over the hearts of our women and perfectly accomplish his mission.

I think much of Ibn Rushd's writings centered on his critique to Imam Ghazzali's much celebrated book "the incoherence of the philosophers" after probably a century had passed.

Inalilaah waa inaa ileehi raajicuun. She was subjected to the most unusual and cruel pain by her blood ties. There should be grave consequences for these pre-Islam cultural practices. "the female buried alive, is questioned ---for what crime she was killed" (Qur'an 81:8-9) "Fear Allah, through whom ye demand your mutual (rights), and (reverence) the wombs (that bore you), for God (Allah) ever watches over you," (Qur'an 4:1)

With regards to Northern Somalia, it's quite an objective political map except that it missed the fact that 85% of Sanag region is for the unionist camp.

In other words you believe more in facts than you believe in the 'truths' of religious texts. That makes you an unshakable 'believer' in scientific facts, just as the devout 'faith-head' believes in his/her own religious truths. The question then, is, what does that make you personally? It makes you no better than those whose holy texts you dismiss, doesn't it? You may say I don't believe in scientific facts but then again, if you don't, how may you deploy a fact against another fact (i.e truths)and come to the conclusion that one is right while the other is wrong? Do you follow what I mean? Because otherwise your entire effort to 'disprove' falls into its own futility. In the end, you yourself will become a 'futile' existence with no facts or truths to hold on to. Think of the Greek Cynics (or in modern terms, the Dogs) and their lifestyles. That is what it is. Well-said, Paragon. The Qur'an on Deep Seas and Internal Waves: "Or (the unbeliebers' state) is like the darkness in a deep sea. It is covered by waves, above which are waves, above which are clouds. Darknesses, one above another. If a man stretches out his hand, he cannot see it..." (Qur'an, 24:40)
