Thus far, the esteemed main Garads of Dhahar have been silent on the Galgala conflict and it sends the signal rightly or wrongly that they are with Puntland leaders such as Ilka-jir, Abdi Jamal, Farole, Abdisamad, and others.. Xudeedi, thanks for the article.
  2. LST, indeed he was instrumental in that ensuing battle that led to the defeat of the secessionist defense minister Mr. Waqaf and his state militia. He was also instrumental in other engagements. Since Tuutaweyne has resigned, it seems they are literally going to be his replacement.
  3. A big tragedy! Sakhar, this is a sophisticated and well-executed attack by the extremists. Neither Sharif nor affiliated TFG members have anything to do with it, methinks. Once Afghanistan is pacified, al-shabab won't last a month. And AMISOM is doing its best at the moment to protect the transitional government and key strategic places.
  4. Any person can shed more light on this. These two colonels, especially Cawl, played major roles during Puntland's domestic conflicts as well as Abdillahi Yusuf's TFG. That's him beside Gen. Ilkajir.
  5. Well said Saffers. Her criticism is truly groundless, immature and unfair given the circumstance that Somali families face on a daily basis. It's like the tragedy of a single story the Nigerian novelist Chimamanda eloquently once retold in her speech.. Most Somali families did not come to Europe or America as economic migrants but as refugees or with the status of asylum seekers. The distinction is highly important to policymakers and immigration critics. And these families have yet to transition into that stage of assimiliation where they can phase out their dependency on welfare rolls. Besides, Somali families in the Diaspora are still dealing with the issues of re-unification or how to reunite with their members seperated by the prolonged civil war in their homeland. It's not easy and I agree we are fed up with Ayan Hirsi wannabees and their many despicable faces..
  6. A Major problem in the Islamic world. Another major problem, he said, is illiteracy. The vast majority of Afghan recruits cannot read and write in their own language, meaning that basic tasks, like knowing the serial numbers of their weapons, are impossible. As a result, the United States has started a basic literacy program, with 27,000 recruits currently enrolled and an expectation that 100,000 will be in the program by next summer...... General Caldwell said illiteracy had created a problem among Afghan soldiers in the north last week, when 90 out of a group of 100 soldiers told American commanders they had not been properly paid by electronic funds transfer, the system now used for most of the Afghan Army payroll. "The money was in fact in their accounts - they just had no ability to, in fact, look at a bank statement or read the A.T.M. machine to understand they had been paid," General Caldwell said. "Had they had some basic literacy training, they would have known that." Source: The NY Times
  7. No doubt he is eloquent speaker. Just read his interviews with the Times and other major publications.. But I disagree with the notion that he is a smart leader.
  8. We are more civilized than them in so many ways Wallahi. Nabiga, the most patient, well mannered, most understanding man ever lived, (PBUH) (ku saliya Nebiga, caleehi salaatu wasalaam) Well said C&H, always sharp. Good manners and tolerance are the hallmarks of any civilization. The ultra-conservative Republicans and the fundamentalists are now attacking President Obama for preaching tolerance and constitutional rights. Jerome Corsi is the man behind all the anti-Obama rhetoric. Upon traveling to Kenya for his book project in order to interview Obama's distant relatives, he was arrested by Kenyan authorities and deported immediately.
  9. Btw, kudos to Abaarso. JB, does this private High School focus more on two main subjects English literature and Finance? Or its curriculum is quite wider..?
  10. Hales, correction saxib, Sanaag region or by extension the North had much better quality schools. Bur'an had primary school whose curriculum and language of instruction was in English. It was established by the colonial admin of back then. Las Qoray had a similar one. (Alim Fatah went to this school before moving on to Sheikh and Amoud). Also in Sanaag, Dayaha and Erigavo had a good primary schools. You are right however, secondary schools had not been established until later. Take a look at this quote: ..in the south generally, because an Italian first degree conferred upon its bearer the title of Dottore (which means Doctor and was mistakenly thought to be equivalent to PhD), and that was a formidable title in a country where many of the policymakers did not even posses elementary school certificates. From "Governance" by Ismail Ali Ismail Also, one thing to remember is that the education in the North had much better quality and reflected good on the northern civil services in comparison to the southern civil services before the full integration of the two systems. Barre's military government made things worse as he stripped the North of some essential northern-based civil services. For instance, Britain, Italy and Egypt had all consulates in the North, which issued visas. Ismail writes, "Departments in the north such as Education and Health were autonomous and both schools and hospitals compared favorably with those in the south. Life was good and people did not need to go to Mogadishu for services" So it was all good until the military regime's arbitrary integration policies deteriorated the healthy of the country, thereby stagnating the North's natural progress. I believe Northern Somalia (Sanaag, SL, PL, and Sool) is much better today in terms of Education, telecommunication and trade, but worse in terms of Public Health, food security, and overall the economy.
  11. Read or Listen from a secessionist portal as the former defense minister of the Triangle secessionists, Mr. Mire Waqaf, make his case before his jury following the defeat of his heavily armed clan militia at the time in Sanaag Region. Waqaf “Kasoo cararkii Dhahar waxaan ku badbaadiyey ciidanka iyo tiknikada” direct quote… Source: HalganNews Btw, to the misinformed folks here, the Puntland militia and its commander that is now based in Galgala are mostly of the heavily armed clan-militias of Abdi Jamal, who is from Galgala himself. (Go to www.spr.fm and listen to his interview)
  12. Oodweyne, I'm sure it suits your little secessionist Triangle and its delusions of grandeur to score cheap points at the Galgala issue. SNM had ignominous defeat at the hands of the Somali National Army, therefore, no need to revisit that ugly chapter of Somalia's history overall. It's well known that he Somali state collapsed due to many factors, chief among them is its war with Ethiopia over Somali-Galbeed, the emergence of clan-based movements, and the rise of the local clan of Mogadishu and its environs. The evolution of "Somaliland" is based on the political aspirations of one clan, therefore, it won't be significant entity both in economic, military and political-wise. Its influence and authority is limited to where its "mass following" of clan as you put it is based. It tried on several ocassions to venture out of its warren Triangle and was afterwards vanquished.
  13. Land Soldier, they even called the honorable Asha Abdalla, a policitian known for her crusading champion for the rights of Somali women, a "terrorist" or "terrorist sympathizer". Puntland's cabal leadership can't be more deceptive and suspect.
  14. Mr. Atam was born and raised in Galgala, in Western Bari. The commander, by the name of Jaamac, who was shot in the head in captivity, was born and raised in Baargaal, a town in East Bari though he is from Galgala by tribal affiliation. Insurgency or internal opposition is the proper term just like ONLF is to the world eventhough Ethiopia calls it a terrorist organization. The fairly elected Col. Jama Ali Jama was called a "terrorist" and defeated by the coalition his rival arrayed against his government. (See Biyokulule's reports) So it seems this is a normal procedure for the clan state to hoodwink and mislead the world. The fact remains Puntland as a fragile state had been hijacked by a cabal leadership with deep profitable ties to piracy, illegal fishing contracts with foreign trawlers, and human smugglings. It's also beholden to poor Ethiopia and its oppressive ruling establishment for nearly 20 years by the former TPLF rebel leader, Meles. Gen. Ilka-jir needs to retire from his service to PL, start reaching out to his people and ask for clemency for the crimes against humanity he and his pirate boss has committed. By speaking in such a manner, he is only perturbing the locals and pushing for their subjugation, methinks..
  15. As of now, the peripheral regional states are stronger than the center and the simple reason is that loyalty to clan trumps loyalty to the Somali nation. Federalism can only be a viable option if the center, that is Mogadishu, can exericise full sovereignty over all the current and future states of Somalia and that no state can print money or behave in a manner that contravenes the federal constitution. 16. All I can pray for in this holy month of Ramadaan is for the return of Somalia's glory and of peace and to insulate our society from the machinations of the ruthless third-parties and their slithery, deadly agents. Let me share with you this backstory of Somali Nation and culture & one of the founders of Somali State and Somali History or as he was known the Father of Somali Nation, Sayyid Mohammed A. Hassan. Parching Winds of Somalia "
  17. ^ . Thankful probably thinks he traveled with PL's passport...a clan fiefdom. No one boasts of, for instance, directors of organizations who have been invited in Washington and met important officials as both leaders of Somalia and Somali citizens concerned of the plight of their motherland. America has no interest in dealing with clan domains formed by former rebels within Somalia except with the good intention of furthering the peace process and the restoration of the Somali Republic. Even Ximan & Xeeb was recently featured on the NY Times as a good building block approach. It doesn't however mean it's a recognized state of Somalia. Federalism as a transitional model of governance has yet to succeed and it will only lead to the proliferation of mini-clan fiefdoms. I think it's a matter of time that we should deal with likes of our own clueless puppets in our own backyard. I'm sure whoever stands up for the people of Sool, Cayn, western Bari and Sanaag regions and take a decisive lead to advance the interest of their own people rather than serve other fiefdoms heavily subsidized by international crimes like Piracy and crimes against humanity like human smugglings and the deportation of IDPs, will be considered national leaders and heroes of their own regions.
  18. Passerby, It's actually a misnomer or should I say grostesque to call Mr. Farole a "dictator". I view him as a Warlord of a clan fiefdom, or a Clan Chieftain, or a Pirate Chief. Even President Yoweri Museveni would agree with me the fiefdoms that emerged out of the wreckage of Somalia. Yoweri put it this way, "This created a proliferation of warlords based on clans. These warlords disintegrated the unity of the country and turned it into fiefdoms." Exactly..
  19. ^or they would probably let the notorious PIS do the dirty trick and frame it on the people of Galgala. Hardly do they know how that wild scenerio to score cheap political points on the international stage would backfire on their agenda and probably create more havoc and anarchy in the region. These people are creating more problems they are ill-prepared to handle or deal with.
  20. Faroole uu sas iyo xasaasiyad ka qabo saxaafadda xorta ah. Awaamiirta ay hadda wasaaradda warfaafinta ee Puntland ku mamnuucayso in saxaafadda Puntland faafiyaan wararka mucaaradka Puntland, waa arrin si cad xadgudub ugu ah xoriyadda hadalka ee uu jidaynayo dastuurka Puntland Well said..
  21. Actually, the Swedish Press is currently investigating Africa Oil, which is a subsidiary of a big corporation I believe, for its explotation of conflict zone areas of Africa and how her dark schemes have impacted thousands of families, killed many and uprooted whole villages. Sooner or later, it would have to pay the negative spillover impact its illegal contracts with warlords and dictators have caused.
  22. Lool. Faroole, the fox in charge of the hen house.
  23. ^ Horta doqonkan Qayr la magac baxay ee Press-yada u warama inuu is casilo baa u roon Puntland. Lagu lahaa qabiilkiisaan la hadalney si uu bal argagixisada u joojiyo. Yaa bal u sheega in reer Maakhir ay qaran yihiin, weligoodna maamul lahaan jirey. Mise calooshooda u shaqayste ayaa u been guurey odayga?
