Bollore Africa Logistics eyes port concessions in Eastern Africa - Berbera
NASSIR replied to Jacaylbaro's topic in Politics
JB, you should never cede your territory to Ethiopia even if it's seen as a competitive leverage against the State of PL, D-Jibouti or the rest of Somalia for that matter. Take a good example of the social and political predicament the soi-disant Somali Region of Ethiopia is in. -
Bollore Africa Logistics eyes port concessions in Eastern Africa - Berbera

I think SL can do a lot better for its people if it adopts the federal model because no country recognizes it as a sovereign state. The reason PL is attracting investments from foreign corporations is for this legal benefit of federalism alone. Even in capital lease terms, it's illegal to lease or manage Berbera port under the business title a "national port of Ethiopia". -
Thankful, adeer you said it yourself that Atam had been pushed into the NorthWestern, which in technicality means "Somaliland". Here, you have "unknowingly" as Jacaylbaro highlighted, violated the quintessential primer on Puntland's playbook. And you came across as someone who considers areas beyond Western Bari that means the Sanaag region as geographically part of SL's claimed borders, since that is where Mr. Atam is currently believed to be based in, if not in the Galgala mountains of Western Bari. So while aiming at the secessionists, you shot yourself in the leg, which means also letting down your pro-Puntland Maakhiris east of Erigavo District and its surrounding villages. At least the Erigavo Maakhiris have long considered themselves as part of "Somaliland", even declining their 4 electoral seats that PL's founder offered them in '98.

Eid Mubarak to you all. Koora, keep up the noble work!

+hate speech in his presence This is Guilt by Association. I see many responders lashed out at the President much worse than the person accused here of tribal slurs or the clannish division that the federal model entails. (Xiin even appealed to the model's careful implementation). And the more it divides the nation into a clan-inspired states or regions, thus prolonging Somalia's anarchy the more it gets discredited. Like our sister Nina said, officials and elders from other regions justify in similar terms esp when it comes to the harsh policies of their own states or the actions of their clan leaders. So this societal malaise aint restricted to one group or one person. Blame federalism.

Nina, qofku markuu Somalinimada muujiyo ciyaar maahan. Gone are the days when we used to identify as one nation. The time is fully ripe for a national leadership like Ahmed Gurey, Sayid Mohamed or the SYL leadership. Sooner or later, that/those leader(s) shall come.

My take is that the biggest fear Somalis (myself incl) in general have vs. Al-Shabab are: 1. Arabization or the loss of our beautiful language and culture. Can al-Shabab create an institution for this purpose, teach Somali script, write and publish academic books like Kitaabul Qur'an wa tarjumatu ilaa macaaniyutal Soomaal 2. The erosion of our individual liberty such as the right to speak our minds, the right to privacy, etc. 3. Women rights like unrestricted access to a decent education, to drive own cars, to dress in normal Somali attire--without countravening religious decrees on the concept of awra, to run, own property and hold an office like Aisha (ra) did. 4. Tolerance to people of other faith known as People of the Book in Islam. In Damascus's Umayyad, for instance, there is the domed shrine of the John the Baptist, or Prophet Yahya who is revered. The mosque is still visited by both Christians and Muslims in peace and harmony. 5. The Rule of Law: As no one is above the law and enforcing contracts either commercial or basic rights as long as such laws do not veer from Islamic jurisprudence. And to codify our laws for clarity, predictability and minimizing conflicts. 6. Good International Relations for the sake of preserving the Somali nation. Somalia will always be a Muslim country, so no need to impose a strict form of rule based system. Etc... I think our religion inherently promotes civic nationalism as opposed to ethnic nationalism since the former is more just and progressive than the latter as long as a Somali or non-Somali person meets the criteria to becoming a citizen such as birth, certain years of residence, paying taxation, and noble services.

Kuun, the main source of PL's revenue base is the Bosaso port, followed by remittances. Don't take it for granted! In addition to political stability, a functioning port spurs economic activity and thus local development in terms of a few "stylish houses or schools". The south by contrast is a war zone. Yes PLers and SLers deserve to be credited for maintaining a stable environment but don't ever forget that inter-regional roads and the ports are the economic engine of the two states. Diaspora Remittances either come first or next, followed by an International development aid. Al-Manhal, the Kuweiti NGO and other UNDP programs have helped built many schools in those regions including secondary schools. The people of Gedo only need a stable environment and some form of democratic institutions and an access to a functioning port. The rest of decorative stuff shall follow suit.

Dr. Gabosse himself is accused of having links with the radicals in the South. So is it the pot calling the kettle black. Prior to joining the Kulmiye party, he desperately tried to form his own Islamist-leaning party (Qaran), which means Nation, on a pan-Somali and Islamist platform. He and his friend Cirro were put behind bars by the former governor for a quite sometime. Now he is back to prove the IC wrong or probably distract the international press from what he himself was accused of by a silly rhetoric against the people of Galgala just to mislead the world from legitimate concerns of his ulterior motives. It's clear as day light what his political intentions in the press release are. Use ctrl f and type "Kulmiye" to locate its links to Islamic Extremism... Thanks to President Mohamed Siyad Barre for building roads and sea ports in Berbera and Bosaso. It's NOT about Hirale's control of Kismayo over 8 years that led to the socio-economic problems in Gedo or most of Somali regions including Nugal and Mudug but for the lack of economic infrastructure. The creation of Jubaland would sure have created a viable admin and political stability necessary for the economic growth of the region in our transition to a government of national union. That achievable goal, however, has been quite hampered or undermined by the long, intractable wars over the control of Kismayo among the hetregeneous tribes that settle in the area. SL and PL are relatively in advantageous position because the residents of the said regions and their core leaders simply inherited the economic infrastructure left in tact by the last legitimate Government of Somalia and late Mohamed Siyad Barre, the last national leader Somalis had.

I went to an AACSB International accredited Business school (rank # 5 in the nation in its Accountancy program) and I somehow managed to free myself of the lures of student loans (included subsidized ones). Even medical students can manage their 'life-time investment' through personal savings and scholarships. Che, was it in India that you completed your higher studies or in the city that u currently reside? And how do you justify the affliction of student loans? AfricaOwn, psychiatrists can prescribe just like any other MD. Every field of study is critical, so go for a field your unique personality can exploit to the fullest potential.

Interesting speech here! He argues students in India get the added advantage of gaining experience and practical knowledge since the country's economy is fastly growing up. He also highlights Somali unity and culture and how to reverse the brain drain in Somalia, etc. The second one summarizes the struggle of Somalis against European colonialism, the road to independence etc.Maansha'allah, very talented Youth.

Xudeedi, INDIA ciyaar maahan. And congratz to the organizers & Maakhir Student Association. The first speaker from among the graduates makes key points abt the value of education, that one should pursue multiple goals at the same time: never get tire of a lifetime learning, shell out to the welfare of society and work to achieve self-actualization. I think his name is Mustafa..

Does anyone here understand Valuation Do Valuation on Somalia's resources and what its owners (Somali nation) must do to change the illiquidity of our God-given assets. Perhaps our brother Sophist can enlighten us more.. Or read why poverty in the mind is so prevalent and its catastrophic effect,The Intellectual paralysis by Ismail.

^Look the article predates the VOA interview and it's mostly based on the assertions, politically motivated charges of the Security Minister and the circulation of the Paltalk charges. After the long VOA interview, the AP diversified its sources and somehow self-corrected its earlier but contraversial content. Puntland hit by powerful insurgency Read carefully! Here is the phrase used by the Monitoring Group literally means "believed to be" : "think to have an idea that something is true or possible, although you are not completely certain; to have a particular opinion about somebody/something:"

^I agree but I demand equal justice for all nations, which I'm sure you'll also agree with my above points.
