JB, you should never cede your territory to Ethiopia even if it's seen as a competitive leverage against the State of PL, D-Jibouti or the rest of Somalia for that matter. Take a good example of the social and political predicament the soi-disant Somali Region of Ethiopia is in.

I think SL can do a lot better for its people if it adopts the federal model because no country recognizes it as a sovereign state. The reason PL is attracting investments from foreign corporations is for this legal benefit of federalism alone. Even in capital lease terms, it's illegal to lease or manage Berbera port under the business title a "national port of Ethiopia".

I see many responders lashed out at the President much worse than the person accused here of tribal slurs or the clannish division that the federal model entails. (Xiin even appealed to the model's careful implementation). And the more it divides the nation into a clan-inspired states or regions, thus prolonging Somalia's anarchy the more it gets discredited. Like our sister Nina said, officials and elders from other regions justify in similar terms esp when it comes to the harsh policies of their own states or the actions of their clan leaders. My take is that the biggest fear Somalis (myself incl) in general have vs. Al-Shabab are: 1. Arabization or the loss of our beautiful language and culture. Can al-Shabab create an institution for this purpose, teach Somali script, write and publish academic books like Kitaabul Qur'an wa tarjumatu ilaa macaaniyutal Soomaal 2. The erosion of our individual liberty such as the right to speak our minds, the right to privacy, etc. 3. Women rights like unrestricted access to a decent education, to drive own cars, to dress in normal Somali attire--without countravening religious decrees on the concept of awra, to run, own property and hold an office like Aisha (ra) did. 4. Tolerance to people of other faith known as People of the Book in Islam. In Damascus's Umayyad, for instance, there is the domed shrine of the John the Baptist, or Prophet Yahya who is revered. The mosque is still visited by both Christians and Muslims in peace and harmony. 5. The Rule of Law: As no one is above the law and enforcing contracts either commercial or basic rights as long as such laws do not veer from Islamic jurisprudence. And to codify our laws for clarity, predictability and minimizing conflicts. 6. Good International Relations for the sake of preserving the Somali nation. Somalia will always be a Muslim country, so no need to impose a strict form of rule based system. Etc... I think our religion inherently promotes civic nationalism as opposed to ethnic nationalism since the former is more just and progressive than the latter as long as a Somali or non-Somali person meets the criteria to becoming a citizen such as birth, certain years of residence, paying taxation, and noble services.
