"Somaliland" is sure attracting more troubles in its Triangle area. Why gamble on the most valued asset of your entity: Peace. Make more friends, not enemies. A case argument I made to a friend who is pro-Somali Region of Ethiopia aka ******. with all due respect, the long simmering conflict btw Somalis & successive Ethiopian governments can't be changed overnight by an illusive peace deal with a fringe group or delegating limited power into a regional autonomy. This has been a war resolutely faught to secure the self-determination of Somalis in the region. Somalis can't be considered "Ethiopians" in my humble opinion. Their piece of Territory had been unjustly ceded to Ethiopia by the British Empire prior to our political independence. Ethiopia now complains to the world and threatens--if its demands are not met--that it will fail to recognize the Anglo-Egyptian Nile Treaty, which had unfairly assigned to Egypt a disporportionate distribution of the water flow . One Ethiopian commentator I read sometime even made the familiar remark that it was their Elders (Ethiopians) who made the historic mistake. It resonates quite well with similar grievances made by the people of the occupied Western Somalia. So If Ethiopia threatens to withdraw from the Nile treaty of colonial era, can she also give back the Somali Territory, which was unfairly ceded to its Empire? See the double standards Ethiopia and her regional allies are playing. What makes one injustice fall on receptive ears whereas an injustice of the same magnitude and scale are forever buried under the rubble? Another Double Standard? Or is it protecting the rights of the strong and displacing the weak. Somalis have a different linguistic, cultural and religious values from that of the Ethiopian highlanders and their close relatives. They simply want to be either an independent state like Kosovo or Eritrea or join their brethrens. I believe once the Somali issue of self-determination in Ethiopia is resolved by the IC, it would have a direct positive effect on the rest of Somalia. And it will be good to us and own posterity..19

Addis Ababa: Ethiopia promises to protect Somaliland Jamhuuriya
NASSIR replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
So Berbera as the future National Port of Ethiopia is turning out to be a realistic goal. Ethiopia will protect "Somaliland" against what? The pro-union Sanaag and Sool Regions and the District of Buuhoodle, ONLF, D-Jibouti, Awdalites, or other Somalis.. Ilaahow noo gargaar. -
^totally agree abt Somali Unity, Taleexi. Ps. It will be interesting to see how Awdalites react to this charge? I'm sure they will come out strong to refute the allegations that Islamic extremists are hiding out in the Golis mountains of Awdal.

Mr. Somalia, I used "..." marks to indicate my unionistic leaning. Aint a secessionist saxib, never was and never will be. Somali unity is sacred, saved and sealed. But Thankful can't seem to figure that out though Mr. Jacaylbaro exposed his subconscious want of Sanaag to be considered part of the Triangle.. Btw, Dr. Gaboose is all over the place with his new business portfolio.

^Opposite viewpoints saxib. Taleexi, interesting perspective. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Humanitarian Message to all the warring parties in Mogadisho, Hiiraan, Puntland, and many other places... I would like to take this opportunity to renew my call to all parties to the conflict in Somalia to create an environment whereby aid can be delivered safely and effectively. On this day it is important to remind ourselves of the underlying principles of humanitarianism that we work to uphold: Humanity is the principle that suffering must be addressed wherever it is found. This is the principle that has brought humanitarian assistance to Somalia and keeps agencies motivated to deliver lifesaving assistance despite the challenges. Impartiality is the principle that humanitarian assistance must be given and prioritized solely on the basis of need. Humanitarian agencies can not discriminate on the basis of ethnic origin, gender, nationality, political opinion, race, or religion. Neutrality affirms that humanitarian assistance must be provided without engaging in hostilities or taking sides in controversies of a political, religious, or ideological nature. Operational Independence means that humanitarian action must be autonomous from political, economic, military or other objectives that any actor may hold with regard to areas where humanitarian action is being implemented. These are the principles that continue to guide the actions of humanitarian organisations and their personnel... Mark Bowden Humanitarian and Resident Coordinator August 29, 2010

At least, BBC and other reputed News media is covering up the story unlike PL's complete ban of the freedom of the Press. Though the policy itself is a tyrinical from a universal perspective, it's actually a desperation on PL's side, intimidation, and belated exericise of a modicum control. And the organized killings in Bosaso goes on unabated. But in reality, the chief reason PL's cabal leadership banned all PL radios for interviewing the head of the opposition is a palpable fear that they will lose their grip on the piece of Somalia's land they tribally claim to control. Thus far, it has been counterproductive. Garad-Bari, I don't think the forces of Atam are of 50 men. They number nearly 700 or more, according to reliable sources. The bulk of these men are locals esp of the inhabitants whose villages and districts straddle alongside the strategic main road that connects to Boosaaso. The locals have real and tangible grievances against Puntland. Otherwise, they wouldn't have armed their kith and kin to defend their land from outside exploitation. I mean, how can the locals with such huge land and territory almost 15 settlements in the Western Bari region be so deprived of their economic share of the Bosaaso's revenue, not to mention a fair allocation of the administrative power? Can a prolonged injustice perpetuated mainly by clan superiority and arrogance continue to hold and remain unchallenged? Regardless of how the self-interested politicians originally from Erigavo(Ilka-Jir) and Las Anod(Abdisamad) justify the attack and occupation of Galgala or unjustly try to tip the balance in favor of PL's mafia-style system of governance, it would have the least effect on the situation on the ground. More violence would lead to more violence and the image of the whole Northeastern region gets pulverized as the war continues to bring in unthinkable devastation into the economy and the social harmony of reer Bosaaso. Again, Both Ilka-jir and Abdisamad are not the right people to be consulted for the sanction of this ugly war. To the locals of western Bari region, these politicians are in no way different from Faroole. At least the latter can visit his hometown of Garowe unlike the two others, for they have demonstrated to their own people how biddable and emasculated they have turned out to be. Very sad time for the people of Maakhir and Daraawiish.

The people of Erigavo regardless of their respective lineages are united on one goal, that's to build and to live in peace and harmony. Of course, Maakhiris in Erigavo subscribe to "Somaliland" and its growing democracy. SL has built for itself a viable institutions. As a matter of fact, on the political aspect, it will take decades for the entire former "Italian Somaliland" to catch up with Somaliland. Makhiris in Erigavo are on the forefront in the the city's local governance, business and security. And they are highly sophisticated to be duped by a mafia-inherited system and its manipulative culture, which bets on and values political agents not based on their academic qualifications or experience but how much they can sway the local people to support policies not in their best interest but for the interest of others. -
GREAT VIDEO. Thanks Xudeedi. I'm impressed by SPR's noble service for the Sanaag/Maakhir people.

Sanaag Gets the Second University -- Welcome to Maakhir University

Good News. Time for reer Sanaag from Gar'adag to Ceerigaabo to Badhan to come together and build their own region. The Port Project of the Horn Relief is feasible if enough funding is secured. Beware of politicians' greed and indifference, and focus on the economic development of the region. -
Gallad, indeed it's a big sized region with huge population. Besides, its inhabitants have chosen peace over conflicts ever since Somalia's collapse. Reer Sanaag should build either the Laas Qoray or Mait port.

The APD is a "Somaliland" based research organization. It has done an immense amount of field work and projects on Governance, security and conflict resolution, land dispute resolution, decentralization, the promotion a hybrid form of indigenous and moderate local administration, educating the public on the principles of human rights, etc.. Its well-designed website ( mobile access) has so much useful information. I've been visiting it for a quite sometime..

My response to Red Sea's latest misaligned fact on Shariif. Originally posted by NASSIR: quote: he has not come in with his own recipe for peace he has instead marching to the same tune and as expected for all ill fated warlords among him he has failed miserably because he is as I have mentioned is an ***** on power trip. Wrong adeer, Sharrif had called during the first few weeks in office for a comprehensive peace with al-Shabab leaders. He tried all he could to compromise and make enough space for them to implement and carry out as normal the application of Sharia Law although already enshrined in the transitional Charter as the supreme law of the land. The President's olive branch didn't bend a bit the stubborness of al-Shabab leaders or dissuade them from their cruel and inhumane punishment of the public. Besides, all the Great and respected Ulama of al-Soomaal such as Sheikh Omar Faruq, Sharif AbdiNur issued their own Opinion based on the Qur'an and Hadith and they appealed to the misguided Youth to renounce their suicidal operations, accept peace and work with Shariif and his government for the Somali Nation. Al-Shabab only proved to the majority of Somalis that they are neither independent nor led by leaders with vision, foresight and workable strategy; they are rather, as they have strictly confessed on the media, navigated and financed from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Qatar and Saudi Arabia by non-state actors opposed to the current global system and its institutions. ^It sounds more like Sheikh Atam's Paltalk drama and how that twisted and manipulated audio was used as the main justification to attack Galgala district and uproot thousands of people, not to mention the deportation of IDPs in Bosaaso. Now is this Guilt by Association meant to dislodge Shariif of his tough responsibility. I believe no other supposed leader is ready or perfectly suited for this task of Somalia's Presidency at this time. Shariif is still considered largely as an honest and moderate Islamist leader and as the first Chief Executive of the Union of Islamic Courts, he can change the political landscape in favor of the TFG if given enough time (or a new mandate) and chance to lead the nation.

Originally posted by AfricaOwn: quote:Originally posted by NASSIR: His achievements nevertheless outweighs his erstwhile flaws. Subjective logic there...Barre was good to you? Cool, to each own. Fyi, reer Maakhir was the first group to be branded as wholesale anti-revolutionaries and thus the first to face discrimination in terms of allocation of political seats until Ciro's abortive coup. Here is I.M Lewis giving concise illustration. "..the general public (both rural and urban) tends to regard the S.R.C. as it did previous civilian governments, and expects it to be equally representative in lineage composition. Thus the Council is largely assessed in terms of the lineage identities and assumed loyalties of its members, and changes in its ranks are interpreted in the light of all this all-pervasive lineage logic. .... Similarly, when the former police commander and first Vice President General Korshell was abruptly arrested and charged with organizing an 'imperialist" counter-revolution, some commentators interpreted as a shrewd move devised to correct the S.R.C.'s supposed over-representation of senior **** members.
