Sana: President Faroole Minister Ilka-Jiir arrive in Yemen's capital
NASSIR replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
^It's of critical importance to promote peace and reconciliation, save the cost of expensive travels and focus on how to build local district councils of Haylan Region and its parliamentary representatives, designate its map, and/or update the info in the below official site .... It seems the pursuit of short-term personal enrichment is contributing further to the ongoing disintegration of PL. http://www.puntland-gov.net/map.asp -
Libaahe, prior to Mr. Ismail Haji Muse, a resident of Ceerigaabo originally from the clans of D-jibouti was selected and he had held the mayoral responsibility for 13 years right after the Erigavo Accord and following the collapse of the Somali government just to avoid any further conflicts that may result from political issues. The "Somaliland" administration (since there's no central government) + specific provisions of internal agreements later turned out to be the ideal solution of governance and the clans gathered finally and selected Haji Muse who is half-Makhiri himself, even his children and half brothers. So you can see the deep connection of the people of Erigavo regardless of their clan origin. Responsibility of the City's Local Governance is shared among the residents, so it's not limited to the mayoral position only though you are making it sound like what sub-clan the mayor originates from automatically qualifies for whose is the owner or majority of Ceerigaabo. Far from it, as I mentioned, the former District Commissioner who served for almost 13 years played an integral role after the civil war of the early 90s led by the SNM clan militia and in the period of an internal reconciliation process. Erigavo District was known as ********** District back then, despite the historical injustice attached to that name. Let the Bygones be Bygones and allow reer Ceerigaabo to live in peace and harmony. This political status of peaceful co-existance is what elevates the good image of the city in comparison to Galka'yo and Mogadisho.

Young Libaahe, are you aware of the fact that there are over 2600 Maakhiri residences + businesses and large plots of farm lands inherited from generations to generatioms in Erigavo, 1200 residences of the people of Las Anod/Darwiish, whereas the combined residences of Hargeisa/Bur'o in the city are of 2400. (Latest official count) So how can you speak for the majority and lump them with your sub-clan's grievances against Silaanyo's Government? Take it as an info, and pls for the last time spare us the nonsense. This is no teen's corner.

VOA Article Portrays Wrong Picture, Appeases Terrorist in Puntland

Thanks Xudeedi for the articles. Reliable and objective coverage of the Galgala and resources conflict of the Sanaag and western Bari regions. Originally posted by Nassir: Garowe Online (Faroole's mouthpiece) reminds me a crucial point President Obama said in his Cairo speech. He said that there are those who advocate human rights and the freedom of the press when they are out of power, but then resort to the same tactics of human rights violations after they cling on to power. I'll repost an old article I sent to GaroweOnline, which critiqued someone with the alien name of "Ashley". She/He was protesting against the coverage of Majihaan conflict. I also congratulated GaroweOnline for its impartial role at the time. But now it's the complete opposite.. In Response to Ashley’s 'Coverage on Puntland Conflict' The article "Coverage of Puntland Conflict", published at Garowe Online reveals some disguised misunderstandings of the particular dimension of this conflict . However, It is my deep surprise to see a person appearing to be from the region express such volatile views of the present conflict in Majihaan. It seems his/her views are too partisan to lend professional credence and one that gives a green light to the continuity of the conflict. Criticism is healthy, but hers is mean-spirited and at best hollow. Ashley points in his/her article that it was not worth the Puntland media giving full coverage to the current Majihaan conflict, which has claimed almost dozens of lives so far. He/She says, ”To say there is no approval of the natives and people of Puntland i believe is incorrect……… I think that alot worse could happen that the media getting behind the progress that is being made.” From the gist of this message, pardon me if I err on the side of caution, her/his position can be interpreted that there is no disagreement between the natives and Puntland, and if such disagreement exist the natives have no right to disagree with the administration of Puntland. Hence, the scale and scope of the conflict regardless of how long it protracts should be ignored to the utmost degree while the president orders his militia create more havoc and destruction to their land. This thinking entails bigotry and does not bring any solution to the conflict. There is a Somali proverb that says, “If you hear trouble taking place in a faraway distance, no matter how far, it will soon be at your feet.” Regional experts believe there is a huge possibility of the likelihood that the conflict triggered by the elusive and illicit mineral and oil deal Puntland had signed with the Range Resources Ltd will extend to Bossaso and the hostility as a result will prevail for many years to come. To bridge the gap, Parliamentarians including Awad Ahmed Asharo, Asha Ahmed Abdalla, elders, Sultans, and mainly the Diaspora have asked the Puntland governor (Muse) to defer his plans for mineral extraction to a later date until a government of national union is created. Yet, he turned their earnest request on a deaf ear by putting all the blame on "Somaliland". It is an outright excuse and evasive tactics to deal with the situation through hidden stratagem by accusing "Somaliland" of direct involvement. He rejected to delegate to the representatives of Sanaag and western Bari regions their inherent responsibility. The region of Sanaag is under the legal umbrella of legitimate Somali Government, therefore, parliamentarians from Sanaag have the constitutional authority in terms of economic and security matters and to avert armed confrontation that will have negative far-reaching effects on their region. I believe it is imperative and to the best interest of the parties involved that the governor, despite the deterioration of his administration in terms of transparency, human rights, and security, reassess the situation and call for regional unity and reconciliation and to heal the wounds spawned by this conflict. From my own understanding, the people of Sanaag has been an integral part of Puntland’s political structure, leadership and development as an autonomous region within Somalia and it is they who can collectively work towards ceasefire and of peace and actively shape the participation of every clan through the democratization process of the Puntland----an objective case for security enhancement. We shouldn’t cast aspersions on the nature of this conflict. Instead, we have to do our part in initiating conflict prevention and resolution. If the governor, nevertheless, insists on making expedient judgment to the detriment of peace and security, former tyrant leaders who failed their people and nations should serve him a reminder. I congratulate the media, the ones that are committed to the coverage of the conflict, in communicating the political stalemate in the region and thus creating an atmosphere of understanding and mutual commitment to one another. The great guitarist and producer, Hudeydi, said in one of his lyrics, “Xaq lama dudbiyoo wuu dilaacayaa,” which in rough meaning translates as “Suppressing the injustice should eventually swell and burst.” That is the exact opposite of what Garowe online and LasqoreyNet are doing. Hopefully, Ashley, as a sister/brother shall see things as that way as many of us did in their learning curve, nay try to set the agenda for what news deems worth coverage. by: Mohammed A. Elmi

Som@li, he has been to Somalia in and out, implemented many projects. He is one of the principal founders of Somali Development and Relief Organization that was based in D-Jibouti, the first ever such organization right after the collapse of the Somali state, if you can recall its activities.. Of recent years, he traveled with Gen. Ilka-jir to Puntland in his election campaigns. He has also been a member of think tanks, most notably Northern Somalis for Peace and Unity. He organized the first political event in Washington D.C that lobbied for Somali Unity from the perspective of Sool and Sanaag leaders. If you remember, I posted an English interview he gave to the VOA on the issue of secession and federalism. So as posted by Xudeedi, he published in prestigious publications on federalism and the importance of political devolution such as regional and local levels of governance as early as 1992.

The sweeping generalization never stops. Polanyi, where do u get all of these strange stuff, conspiracy (evil or surreptitious plan formulated in secret by two or more persons). With that said, "eed maleh nafteyduye hadey ku ogolaataa. Waa amaanta inaad u qalantaa"

Based on USAID's programs in Somalia and the direct correlation with Corson's press statement, there's hardly a distinction. Contrary to Garowe Online, America won't extend diplomatic relations with both entities.. Carson said the U.S. would not establish formal diplomatic relations with the two entities or recognize their independence, but would help their governments with agriculture, water, health and education projects. Diplomats at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, will lead the effort and increase their informal visits to Somaliland and Puntland. AP --------------- GOVERNING JUSTLY AND DEMOCRATICALLY USAID works with several partners to improve governance at the national, regional, and local levels, and to support key elements of civil society.... INVESTING IN PEOPLE Civil unrest has eroded Somalia’s basic social services. USAID assists local communities by providing integrated health and education interventions and improving the capacity of governance institutions to deliver services throughout Somalia. USAID has a higher education partnership with the University of Hargeisa to establish a program in conflict mitigation, and is also helping Somalia remain polio-free through child vaccinations..... Hargaysa: Seeks cooperation with Puntland State [end of secession]
NASSIR replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
An old version of this thread How can "Puntland" be of any help to "Somaliland" unless this is a public relations exercise? Whereas the regions of Sanaag and Sool, western Bari, Haylaan and Ayn regions, are now portrayed as incubators of Islamic extremism. Who instigated this calamity one might ask? Local proxy agents and the absence of a unified leadership? Can the people of these regions afford to be held hostage by two expansionist, clan entities? Time will tell. -
Originally posted by Jacaylbaro: And they're not in South Central ..... Well then there must be a middle way, some sort of solution for these regions' predicament. The issue of Galgala + the Prime Minister's resignation has led to a "shift of policy", though the idea was floated by the Washington Post prior to Sharif's project and when former U.S Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, Frazier made a surprise visit to Hargeisa. Look, UNISOM in 1994 recognized Sanaag and Sool regions under the chairman of Awad Ahmed Asharo (a Maakhirian). That was 4 years prior to Puntland's formation.

Dhahar: Verification of Puntland Stability a Youth Football tournament....
NASSIR replied to General Duke's topic in General
Mr. Somalia, It's busines as usual. Remember when Carson's predecesor, Frazer arrived in the secessionist capital, Hargeisa, the Washington Post wrote about a "shift of policy", and many concerned citizens of Somalia wrote about the issue.I think No diplomatic relationship will be granted except for the same support they gave to Ahlu Sunna Wal Jame'a in order to contain al-Shabaab. "Puntland" officials seized the opportunity and used it to sacrifice the locals of Western Bari region. So "making hay while the sun shines" is a perfect example. Frazier in Hargeisa American multinationals want to exploit Somalia’s resources by resuming, after perhaps an imposed but not mutually acceptable partition, the exploration of the untapped vast reserves of oil deposits and minerals in Sool and Sanaag regions of Somalia, mainly inhabited by the *********** and ********** sub-clans of *****-******, respectively. However, the recent statement by the State Department lends credence to the territorial integrity and national unity of Somalia. The statement unfairly acknowledges Somaliland’s de facto status and so instructs the transfer of its responsibility to the African Union to decide whether to bring “Somaliland” into legal existence or not. This raises the suspicion that if AU, a financially bankrupt and ineffective organization controlled by corrupt and tyrant African leaders, recognizes “Somaliland” the United States and its EU friend will follow suit, which also bypasses the fair dealing of this case by the United Nations based on the principle of non-intervention and the territorial integrity of member states. There are official reports, confirming the existence of vast reserves of oil deposits in Sool and Sanaag regions, from American multinational corporations such as Shell and Conoco that held contracts in these two regions before declaring force majeure. For instance, in an article, “Oil hopes hinges on North Somalia” published by the Petroleum Economist on 30 October 1990, states; Link -
Dhahar: Verification of Puntland Stability a Youth Football tournament....
NASSIR replied to General Duke's topic in General
Mr. Somalia, both entities have the English term "Land" as suffix. And sorry to say this, but you are like the pot calling the kettle black. For all we know "Puntland" is a carbon copy of the "Somaliland" admin. It started as a regional administration, graduated to a State with its own flag and now its officials are calling "Puntland" as a break away state. One Nation can't be divided into tribal states. It has already failed.
